Have you ever had your meal comped at WDW?

Once we had our meal comped at 50's Prime Time. Had to send my entree back once and my DS had to send his steak back 3 times before they got it right! Our 5:30 meal took so long we almost missed Fantasmic!:scared1: Anyway, they gave us Fantasmic special seating and our meals comped back for all the aggravation.:)

We've had meals comped twice!

One time we were eating at Chef Mickey's and a bird flew in and nose dived into our table, hitting DH in the head. The bird was wounded and just laid there until someone got a napkin and took it back in the kitchen. The manager was out in no time and comped our whole meal -even our drinks!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Your story made me laugh out loud. I feel bad for the poor bird but your description of it tickled my funny bone. As you can tell, it doesn't take much to amuse me! :)

All of these stories in this thread have one thing in common....good managers of the restaurants/resorts!

there was a big piece of glass in my father's food at the Big River Grille so he got comped

We still laugh about it every time we go to Chef Mickey's! All the tables around us just gasped too - no one knew what to do.

I think if you don't "expect" much the managers usually bend over backwards to make your evening turn out well.

I hate to post here becasue I try to not focus on our (limited) bad experiences. However, I will post and focus on how well they were handled.

Several years ago we had an awful meal at Garden Grill. Food was cold, server was unattentive. We paid, but after leaving I realized that if we were anywhere but Disney I would have complained, so I called the restaurant. Well, we kept missing the manager's calls and he would be gone when we got back to the room, so we didn't speak to him till we got back home. He offered us a comp meal on our next trip 2 years later. I half expected them to forget but 2 years later we were given and amazing meal and were very pleased. He even came over and thanksed me (same guy, 2 years later) for letting him know so he could make it right.

Last trip we were on the DDP and ate at ABC Commissary. The food was so awful, so I went and spoke witht he manager. He took one look at our food and agreed it was bad, so he gave us what the food would have cost (he didn't know how to refund the credits).

We have eaten so many meals in Disney, these were the exceptions. My DH works for restaurant franchisees and they want to hear what to improve on, so I do when meals and/or service is really bad. So, I do speak up (no matter where we are), but in all our trips only 2 meals that weren't wonderful,I feel like we are doing pretty good!!!

We were staying @ the Contemporary 2 years ago. My soon to be SIL had his laptop in his room. The maids were cleaning his room when he went back to get something. The door was propped open with no one in sight!
He immediatly checked to see that nothing was missing--nothing was. Then he called for a manager. They gave our whole party of 7 a complementary meal in the Concourse Steakhouse--including alcohol.

We were offered a meal at Cape May when our BCV room wasn't ready anywhere near check-in time. We went and ate a little, but weren't really hungry. It passed the time however as we waited for our room.

One year on July 4th our room wasn't ready at POFQ and we had dinner reservations at O'hana, while we didn't get comped the meal, the manager at POFQ provided R/T transportation to the Poly so we would could enjoy our meal and the fireworks without having to deal with WDW transportation and huge crowds.

I am never one to ask for anything to be comped and frequently am disgusted at the people who do. DH and I were eating at Ruby Tuesdays near home Friday night and the lady in the booth next to us was chowing down on her food when we arrived--I mean chowing down--about 15 minutes later she was telling the manager how bad her meal was! :confused3 I said outloud to DH "She sure didn't have a problem eating did she, did you see how she was shoveling it in when we got here?":rotfl: He kicked me under the table. :rotfl2: And the lady ended up getting free dessert. I hate those kind of people!

I completly agree you should never expect anything, in both my cases I truly was just pointing it out so they could make it better for the next person. We saw this once at Outback. The people ate everything and then complained, my DH and I were annoyed. I mean, if the food is bad, STOP EATING IT! But don't eat it all and then say there was a problem...:confused3

I spilled a chocolate milk on myself, while dining at the Princess Storybook Breakfast. I was trying to clean it up, when the waitress saw what happened. She immediately offered to have a CM walk me across the street and buy a t-shirt to replace my soaking one. I still have my Norway t-shirt, and it's even what I would consider a good memory because of how well they handled it.

So it wasn't a comped meal, but they definitely went above and beyond what I was expecting:thumbsup2

We were comped 2 meals to out DDP at the Spirit at Aloha Show, the monarail broke down, and were stuck on it for about 40 minutes. We missed our pictures, the meal was great and we had excellent seating. Waitress went above and beyond, and we tipped her well, but we did miss the first part of the show.

I dining alone at Big River Grille in October. After ordering, I went to the bathroom to wash my hands (habit before eating). When I came out, they were seating people at my table! I caught the hostess and told her what happened. They offered to reseat me at the bar, but I can't sit on stools without because it causes pain in my knee to have my legs dangling. They made the new party move and gave me back my original table. When my meal was over, my waitress told me the manager was offering a free dessert because of the table mishap. I wasn't planning on ordering dessert but I did get the cheesecake - it was yummy. I still tipped the waitress as if I paid for the dessert because it wasn't her fault.
Another time, I was at TGIF (hate that place) with some friends. One friend and I order steak but different cuts. He got mine and I got his and it was undercooked (we both had order medium). I told the waitress and she reordered my steak and let my friend keep what they gave him - I understand it was a wonderful steak  . Anyway, the correct cut came out massively undercooked. When I cut into it - it was blue! I complained again and the waitress was ready to take the head off the cook. The manager came out and stated that he saw my steak and it wasn't undercooked. Since when is a medium steak blue? The waitress didn't like that and privately talked to the manager. I finally got a steak - medium well - and the manager finally agreed to comp my meal. All he wanted to do was give me a free dessert. I also got a card to use for a free dessert at my next visit - still haven't used it.

We were not comped a meal, but we did receive 5 one day hopper passes free! We had a particularly difficult exit from MK one year. Over a 2 hour wait! Only one ferry was running so they offered an alternative bus ride to TTC. We could have walked it in 1/4 the time it took a bus to get us all out of there! Anyway, when we got home DH wrote a polite but firm letter and we received free one day pass for each member of our family. Good PR, and, of course in using the "free" pass, we spent another $1500.!

While eating at Captain Jack's they had water problems and could not serve anything else from the kitchen. (We had already eaten but were waiting on dessert) . We fully expected to pay for the meal even though we could not get dessert (on DDP) though they said no charge we still tipped the waiter though at that time it was in included. Just wanted to make sure he did not get stiffed because of a backed up pipe.
