I had the Elizabeth Arden salesgirl pick out for me Foundation, Blush and Lipstick. All the salesgirls were sooo young. She suggested lip liner for me which looked awful - Isn't a 47 year old too old for lip liner?

I know a young man who does part time makeup "artistry" at MAC....have you seen how goulish looking that makeup is? :confused3 :rotfl2:

I really think the purpose of lipliner is to keep the lipstick from "bleeding" beyond your lip edge.I prefer a lipstick that is a rosy-brownish, very similar to my natural lip color.

No, not if you use a natural, nude looking color. MAC lipliner in "Spice" is a good one that goes with almost any skin tone and lipcolor. I don't like wearing lipstick without liner, just feels weird to me.

I don't think it is. However, I detest the trend of lining your lips in a shade much darker than the lipstick (a la 'brats' dolls). I had a Clinique makeover and it was done with lipliner in the identical shade as the lipstick.

The only thing that bothered me about my makeup counter makeover is that I told the salesperson that I was allergic to many cleansers and skin care lines, and she insisted theirs was not going to cause a reaction. It did-a half hour later, my face felt like it was on fire. I love their makeup, but can't use their skin care.

UGH I had my makeup done at a sales counter once. ONCE. I looked like a woman of shall we say...questionable morals. I know it's all a matter of who actually does the job but I'm too chicken to do it again.

I had the opportunity to have it done.. it was from Lancome & was by appointment.. they had a day when the NYC artists came down. It was actually very flattering & I ended up purchasing many of the items they used... BTW while pricey I found that Lancome lasts FOREVER .....

As long as the lipliner matches the lipstick it's fine, I love it!

The key to getting your make up done at the make up counter is to get it done by someone that knows what they are doing and listens to what YOU want.

I have had my makeup done by Clinique and MAC. I loved the outcome both times and even bought some of the stuff.
The only problem was when I got home I didn't know how to re-create the look the makeup artist did.

That's a bummer. I guess I was very lucky-the salesperson took me step by step what she was doing. I've been able to recreate it, thankfully. Not that I do very often, lol!

I thought that was part of the makeover, now I know: ask salesperson to show me what they're doing!

I had my makeup done for my wedding at I believe it was the Estee Lauder counter. It was way more makeup then I was used to wearing but the girl said trust me your pictures will come out great. She was right. My pics were awesome!

Oh, no. They showed me how to do it. But getting home and trying to recreate the look-it just never comes out how it should.

I've had mine done twice at Estee Laudre, Once by myself and the 2nd time with my Best friend. I loved mine both times. I'll try and post a pic later of what my latest (2nd) one looked like. :goodvibes

No and I don't plan to. Still as a teenager, I like to do my make-up my way and not somebody elses impression of beautiful.

I've had it done lots of times. I love it when I buy something and they offer to demonstrate how to use it.

During my "always a bridesmaid" phase I would get my makeup done at the Lancome counter before the weddings. It was free if you bought two products and I always use their makeup anyways.

I've had it go well and terribly. Now I only will have someone do it if I LOVE how they do their own makeup, because I've found that is the style they tend to do someone else with. I've had people convinced I belong in purple eye makeup - it makes me look bruised! The lady who did it for our wedding was incredible though. It lasted all night and looked PERFECT!

oh yes it is!

i only go to this one woman at the clinique counter because the others that worked there wouldnt listen to the look i wanted for my birthday party. So i refuse to work with anyone but her because nobody will listen to me! maybe because im a teen...i dunno...

I love getting makeup counter makeovers. When I get one I try to look for a salesperson whose makeup I like. When I have a question about a foundation I try to see if there's a salesperson whose skintone is similar to mine. When I've done that, the makeup has come out wonderful. When I've gone with just anyone I've not been happy. I've also been to those appointment with a "big time" makeup artist. Last time someone did the main makeup and the "big time" did my eyes. They were okay. I have a friend who does better. Be leary of those appointments they really try to get you to spend money big time!

I love MAC makeup, and especially the spice lipliner! When I've had a bad day or need to relieve some stress I head straight for the MAC counter at Nordstom. I don't wear the extreme colors though-- don't want anyone to have a mental image of me with green metallic eyes-- they have alot of shades in the neutral colors.

Here's the pics from our second makeover. This was done at a Estee Laudre Counter.

I'm on the left and my best friend is on the right. :goodvibes
