Ugh. I just want to hear from someone who has gone through this. I woke up this morning and my mom gives me this funny look because she thought I was at work since my car wasn't in front of the house. I ran outside to check and see if my mom parked it somewhere else last night (I haven't driven it since early Sunday morning) and it is gone. We've already called a report in, but I just don't know what happens now.

This has been one of the worst few days of life. Go figure it happens now.

Oh no. This has never happened to me, but I wanted to say that I'm sorry it happened to you, and I hope it can be recovered.

You should also call your insurance company right away to let them know. You would not want someone getting into a car accident, then using the insurance card in your car, etc. Plus the car might be covered under your insurance anyway and they may cover a rental until your car is returned. Make sure you obtain a copy of the police report made out for your car to submit to the insurance company. Since it was stolen from your driveway, check your homeowners insurance and see if it's covered under a general coverage clause for your homeowners insurance. HTH. Good luck.

It does help, thank you. I feel so clueless in what I have to do.

Several years ago, we came back from Disney World and couldn't find our car at the airport. Seems someone stole it. After the initial "What the heck do I do now?" feelings subsided, I filed a report and rented a car to get home.

Geico was real nice about it. The paid me $25 a day on the rental car, it cost just over $30. After about three weeks they decided it wasn't going turn up and sent me paperwork with a check for the "book" value. We argued once on the phone about my idea of value and theirs. We were about $1500 apart. They had me go car shopping and send them information on similar vehicles or sale. Then the agreed with my value and sent me a check minus $500 which was my deductible.

Funny part... My car was recovered by the police in a small town a couple hours away about two months after it was stolen. Geico sold me back the car for $500 plus the towing and storage, if I would go get it.

Oh, jeez!

Well, CHP was just here to take the report since we're kind of outside city lines. I don't need any more drama in my life. Sigh.

Since you got your police report done your next step is to contact your insurance company. Find out if you can recieve a rental until the car is founf or that they pay you out for. Also look for comparable cars and print it up so that ou get a good price for the car. They may try to pay you a lower amount.

she needs to do a claim. and the faster its done the faster it gets done... claims can take a while sometimes.

this thread brought back a bad memory. Just after my Daddy passed away, my mom was wanting to sell his Jeep Cherokee. Since I worked at a bank in a very busy area, we decided to park it there and try to sell it. I had a guy come test drive it. He & his wife and child were gone for a few minutes then they returned. He said he would "let me know".

The next morning, I was on my way to take DD to daycare before going into work. As I passed by I thought, where is the Jeep?? Well when I got back, sure enough, it was GONE! I called the police, filed the report. Ins. paid my mom for it and all was good. Well, a few months later they found the jeep in GA. The guy who test drove it was driving it in GA. We think he had made a key at Walmart when he test drove it. :scared1: I guess he really did want the jeep, he just didn't want to pay for it. :rotfl2:

It is a sick feeling though. You feel so violated.

Now that's a story! Wow. And you're right, you do feel violated!

I was talking about this with my mom a couple of minutes ago, and we find it so ironic, but we live across the street from a small business that has an empty/abandoned parking lot on their property that's been closed off for a long while. I used to park on that side of the street and for 5+ years nothing ever happened to my car. It wasn't touched, stollen, nada. Well, 1-2 weeks ago my mom's car was taken away to be salvaged after a car accident so I have been parking in front of the house. And now my car gets stollen.

Go figure.

I'm really sorry this happened to you. If it makes you feel any better, I'm sure it would have been stolen if it was parked where you usually parked it too.

I really hate that it happened to you OP. I am sure everything will work out fine, it's just something else to have to deal with.

I have to tell you this funny story. My mom remarried a few years ago, and this man is a little older than she is, sharp, but about 10 years or so older. Anyway, a few days ago she went out to the garage and his car was missing. The door was down and everything. She yelled to him "Joe, where is your car?!?". He was like, "it's in the garage where it always is". She said oh no it's not and she pushed the button to open the garage door and it was parked outside. :lmao: He didn't remember doing that. I guess he is getting even older now.:rotfl2:

I am sorry to hear about your car......I would be devastated if I lost mine.
I hope they sort it all out for you really quickly

Jazz I hope you get your car back soon, or get $$ from insurance!! I'd give them a call now, since you've got your police report taken care of, it's highly likely that you'll get something for a rental while you're in limbo. (((HUGS))) I certainly the rest of your week is better!!

OH EM GEE!!! My goodness, Jazz. When it rains, it pours, doesn't it? I don't even know what to say. I've never had my car stolen so I don't know the correct things to do. I'm really sorry all this stuff is happening to you.

I, however, am a positive person and after racking my brains for a positive to this situation the only thing I could come up with was this: at least you get a break from stalker Joe! :lmao:

Awww this is terrible I hope it all turns out ok!
I never have had my car stolen but pretty much the entire year or 2008 was unlucky for me.
My vehicle was involved in 2 accidents (one of which i had let a friend of mine borrow my car...long story short he totaled it. Still hasn't finished paying me the measily $500 my parents made him pay us to cover the deductible ) and the other was just some damage to the door of my new car (the one that replaced the totaled one!)
that same year....
my cell phone was stolen along with some money, my camera was stolen along with some credit cards (different occasions), and just personally lots of bad stuff was going on.
Let's just say that year I really grew as a person and learned a lot!
Funny thing is, that was one of the few years in my life that did not include a Disney trip. I think a year without Disneyland for me = a year of bad luck! :rotfl:

I really hope whoever did this to year knows whats coming for them. I am a strong believer in karma!

Man, I cannot tell you how much I was hoping this was all that happened when my mom said she hadn't seen my car when she looked outside. She was the last one to drive it (yesterday) and I was wondering if she had to park somewhere else on the street and just forgot. It can be a little hard to get parking 'round these parts some days. Ran out the door to look up and down the street and nada.

:headache:

Oh, the joy of the silver lining. I suppose he can't leave things on my car when I don't have a car for things to be left on.

So sorry that this happened to you. My husband's car was stolen years ago when parked at a "Park and Ride" while he was at work. We did not find out until late afternoon when he got back from work and ooops! No car! He called me and told me it was gone and I know what you mean about disbelief! I kept repeating to him, "Are you SURE you looked everywhere? Are you SURE it's NOT there?" I think the horrible thought of someone being in our car, and having our gararge door opener, with our name and address in the glove compartment made me sick to my stomache. My husband left for work so early in the morning, my children and I were all at home sleeping and totally unaware that someone could have potentially walked right into our house that day! By he way, the Police did locate our car, completely stripped and abandoned about 30 miles away. They picked that car apart; even down to the factory made trash bag that hung on the dashboard! Yeah, you do feel totally violated and yucky when you see it and think that someone was actually in there taking it all apart...your property. Hope things look up for you soon. :)

I can well imagine that sinking feeling you had/have. I hope they find your car soon & can get it back to you.
