Cancel a trip that is? My family has went to WDW every year for the past 12 years and have never had to cancel. I should be at POR right now, but money has been so tight this year that we had to cancel. I have got the Disney blues :sad1: and I just can't shake them. My kids are taking it pretty well, I have at least moved our ressie to next June, but that feels like forever. I guess I just wanted to let someone know. I WILL NEVER TAKE DISNEY FOR GRANTED AGAIN!! :sad2:

Thanks for listening!

We have not actually cancelled at trip, but we have been the past 2 yrs in a row and the family automatically thought we'd be going this summer too.

Well, after careful consideration we decided to skip this year and have a big blow-out fun trip next summer.

I can understand your disappointment and the need for a "Disney fix". I have the itch too. But I can have fun planning our trip for next year.

We have not had to cancel a trip, but we have had to change our resort wishes before. Even that can be disappointing in its own way when you have your heart set on one place and you end up at another for $$ reasons.

I am sorry you had to cancel. I understand the disney blues. We get them when we return home from a trip there. Just focus on your planning and reading these boards. I find reading them can be a big help to a disneyholic like myself. :flower:

Rent every Disney movie under the sun. Yeah, my mom said that we might go during October for the Food and Wine Fest, but it would be during school so my mom was talking about leaving me here! No fair. Anyways, I find it kinda helps to watch Disney movies, or even better, home videos from your last trip. It might make you want to go really bad for a while, but in the end it helps because it's like you're there. Oh, watch them with your family.

SoccerDog- Wed. night(the night we should have arrived) we watched Disney movies and talked about next year. It did help. I don't think I could watch past family videos just yet. It's hard enough seeing all the photos in every room of the house :teeth: .

Thanks for all the kind words!

Yeah, I had to cancel because my husband and I were both too sick to go. We had the flu in 1999 and the morning we were supposed to leave, I was still dragging around, trying to pack my suitcase with a thermometer in my mouth. Denial, anyone? Needless to say, with a fever still at 102F (and my husband's was just as bad), we didn't go anywhere.

To the OP:

I commend you for being strong enough to cancel the trip due to finances instead of going ahead and ending up deep in debt. I read too many posts where people talk themselves into going anyway. Use the time between now and next year's trip to plan a really special time knowing that financially you have not jeopardized your family by taking a trip you can't afford. I'm sure the wait will make the next trip even sweeter.

We had a DCL cruise planned for May 2006 and we just cancelled 3 weeks ago. The price of the cruise alone (cat12) for 4 was quite affordable. What prompted the decision was all the little extras that added up (tipsx4,excursionsx4,hotel arriving the night beforex4, passports for the kids, etc)

Not to mention we have to put braces in our DD's mouth ( ouch ! that busted my budget).

So instead we are thinking of doing a WDW road trip next year. We plan to do the beach and rest before hitting WDW for a couple of days.

My Dsis will still be going in May....we had planned to go as 2 families. That is going to hurt when I see her leave. But knowing that we will have some quiet time just the 4 of us ( we usually travel to WDW with them) is going to be something I will definitely look forward to....

In "99" during a routine stress test my husband had to undergo an emergency quintuple bypass. His only concern was that they had to put it off for a few weeks because we were going to WDW. The docs (and me) just looked at him like he was crazy. Needless to say he had the surgury and recovered just fine. The following year we stayed 3 weeks at WDW to make up for the missed trip.

In 2002 I had several kidney stones and was dying in pain (get them often). Had xray the night before our trip and doc. said I wouldn't be able to go. The following morning doubled over in pain (and loaded with percocet) we left for Disney.
Collapsed in our room and practically passed out (too many percocets).
Believe it or not after several hours the pain was gone and it did not bother me all the rest of our trip. Disney is really magic.

Cancelled 3x this year! We put our house up for sell last May and thought we had it sold in August so we planned a trip for September....nah..fell through had to cancel...thought we had it sold by Christmas...nope had to cancel again...again in May...nope had to cancel...I've planned a trip for September and hoping this time we sell that house!!! It's been a loooong year for the kids..we had to live without Daddy through the weekdays for a year and finally decided to have two mortgage payments...OUCH! I don't care if it takes us a year to pay off the Disney trip...we are GOING when we sell that house! :)

I've gotten soo great at planning dining though...I've gone through the planning 4x this year and can practically tell you by memory where we'll be on what day! :)

Hope it works out for you! Going every year for 12 years is a blessing...we go everytime we move...and this is our last move so this will be our last trip...atleast until they're in college...which is 10 years from now...just imagine how much fun it'll be to skip a year because they'll have new stuff within a 2 year span! :)

We had to cancel last year's labor day weekend trip because of hurricane Frances. Going to New Hampshire just wasn't the same LOL.

Carol1973- I must admit that we did think about going for it anyway, but we have learned that it doesn't make it a good trip to come back and have to worry about paying for a trip that is over. We are blessed and I know next year will be wonderful. Thanks!

Imhall2000- Good Luck with the house!
