Have you ever had anything stolen at Disney World?

Yep. In 1998 we had a bag of OTC and prescription meds stolen from our room at the Contemporary and the management could not have cared less. We learned our lesson to not leave anything of value out where it could be stolen.

No luckily...another reason I kind of like being DVC. nobody in my room! On trash day we put stuff away. But knock on wood we've never had things stolen elsewhere in the world.

I've always been one to be very careful usually with this kind of thing - but accidents do happen. It's just a little disheartening to think about, especially since it was in our locked room. We spoke to the manager that night and he was very receptive. I've also emailed guest relations since being home. They've responded saying that they're investigating it. I'm not expecting anything to come of it and also not looking for compensation - but strongly feel that they've may have a bad egg in their group. We weren't liable for any charges, but wouldn't want it to happen someone else while they're there either.

A few years back I forgot to put my watch on in the morning at POFQ, and I left it on the sink. When we came back that evening the watch was gone. I filled out a report at the front desk, never heard anything after that.

Story's like these are why I always put my CC on the magic band. Only one place takes my card, not multiple places throughout Disney. That way, if you do get some fraudulent charges, you know exactly where they came from. If I ever had to file a police report or my CC company was investigating they would know where to start.

People are distracted and tired at Disney. 2 weeks ago when my sis and I were there, we found in the food court at POR, not one but 2 ladies purses hanging on the backs of chairs, abandoned. One lady returned for hers before we had finished eating, the other we turned in.

I haven't yet, but I always lock everything up. Disney is like any other public place. Can't trust everyone.

I see that a pp had his meds stolen. I lock those up too, in the safe.

My credit card that I used to pay for the trip had a 60" plasma (this was 3 years ago when they were expensive), a home generator and a surround sound system charged to it. Fortunately my credit card company caught it as they "knew" I was on vacation and the goods weren't being shipped to my home, let alone the same state. They cancelled the transactions and sent me a new card.

I didn't think much of it until I mentioned it to my sister and she told me that she had the same exact thing happen to them in Disney -- the card they used to make their reservations was charged for large, high value items.

So to avoid that problem I now buy a prepaid credit card, load it it up and then send Disney money, load it again and repeat the process until balance is paid -- makes them process 4 transactions minimum instead of one. Once I go on the trip, I cut up that prepaid card. Then I bring another one to have my room charges put on the card.

I haven't had a problem since.

Several years ago, after a day in the park, my fingers were swollen so I took my wedding ring set off and put it in a glass on my nightstand in a Coronado Springs room. The next morning I forgot to put them back on and went off to the parks leaving them in the glass. When we returned to the room my 1/2 ct solitaire was still there, but the plain gold wedding band was gone. I am sure it was stolen by housekeeping, and that they left the solitaire knowing that I would report it if it was missing. I was too busy having fun to spend time reporting or complaining and now have a much nicer band, but I don't trust housekeeping with valuables.

Two incidents:

My 7-year-old DS took off his fanny pack to use the bathroom in Africa at AK and forgot it on the hook. We discovered it only a couple minutes later but it was gone forever. Guest Services at AK told us they would call if it was turned in, but we should try the main lost and found...we tried many times, even a month after we returned home. It had nothing of value to anyone but my little boy, stickers, Mickey sequins, a couple pins, that sort of thing.

Unfortunately, we had two gift cards taken from our room on our trip less than two weeks ago. I was partially responsible for not being more careful. Normally, I would use the safe but the one in our room was broken...I should have called about this earlier. I checked the balance of the cards and called the Magical Express while drinking coffee on our balcony. We were running late so I threw the DME forms and the gift cards on the table (when I should have put them in my bag since the safe wasn't working). They were gone when we returned. The manager came to discuss it (and tried unsuccessfully to fix the safe), I was able to show the gift card balance online, she filed a report, asked me to keep an eye on the balances but said I would likely hear no more. When we checked out, there was a credit on our bill for the amount on the gift cards which I appreciative very much. I have no idea what happened behind the scenes because, during our initial chat, I felt that the manager maybe thought they would turn up (she said that many Disney guests are careless, as I was for leaving them out). They have not turned up in my possession. The balance hasn't gone down either.

Yes...happened at one of the Disney waterparks in January 2006. We went to the counter-service for lunch and were only gone about 15 minutes but while we were gone someone stole DS's water goggles, my disposable water camera, & DS's brand new Star Wars toy he'd gotten the night before from Hollywood Studios out of our beach bag.

We reported it & Disney was great. They gave DS'S new goggles & had a replacement Star Wars toy sent to our resort from HS. Security also told us that we were not the only people hit in the park that day.

Ever since then, we ALWAYS rent a locker at the waterparks. :thumbsup2

I don't consider leaving belongings out in your own hotel room being careless. Maybe not wise considering all that is stolen seemingly by their own staff, but not careless.

Had our camcorder stolen on our FIRST trip. Disney didn't care, they basically said we will let you know if it turns up. At least we learned early on to clean our own room, and leave the do not disturb all week on our door. we have never let housekeeping in our room again in all of our trips. We do get fresh towels and stuff every couple days, but nobody in my room when I'm not there, and I still lock everything up just in case.

There was a post a couple of months ago where the poster had prescription meds stolen from the room at Disney.

An iphone.
Disney could care less and told us there was nothing they could do. They asked housecleaning and they didn't have the phone.
So....
I used findmyphone app to track it down then I used google maps to give me and address.
Got the address and searched the counties appraisal district for the owner of the address.
Got her name.
Ran her through facebook and what a coincidence, she worked for Disney in housekeeping.

I then contact the police and the officer when and chatted with the lady. He then left and called me and I described her to him (from photos on FB) and described her perfectly. He made sure I was going to press charges then went back up to the door and at that time she gave it up.. claimed she was turning it in on her next shift.

PD shipped the phone to me. They were awesome.. Disney Co. sucked.
Good detective work!! Did you let Disney know? I wouldn't have known how to do all that, but I do now :thumbsup2

Yes, quite a few years ago we had all our bags stolen at Typhoon Lagoon (clothes, cameras, etc.).
I've heard about a lot of thefts at the water parks, especially taking Disney towels. We just use the pool towels, and don't have anything in our beach bag but sunscreen and a book, and beach cover up. If we have a change of clothes we rent a locker. Ugh. Used to take a camera with us, great photo ops around the water parks, if we do now, we just take pics walking into park and then that goes in locker too.

This is how it was in my case as well. The only place I had used my cc was over the phone when I ordered the cake and it wasn't the card I attached to my room either.
Good thing you took name down. I should do that, I ordered a cake a couple of years ago. Thankfully no problem.

We always lock up everything in the safe. Wallet, passports, IPad, cash. But mistakes do happen. One day I forgot to lock safe before leaving and was horrified to see it open when we came back. Thankfully nothing was missing.

I have always gotten gift cards when we arrive to pay for everything. One for food, & one for suvies. This minimalizes the amount of times you use your credit card there. So only once or maybe twice at resort gift shop to load it and that's it. Using your MB I guess would accomplish the same thing, except I like to see my running balance, and using GCs doesn't involve a trip to resort desk ;)

Never put purse on chair back anymore either after hearing how easy it is to take off with it.

We've had some good experiences at WDW . Once my daughter left her bracelet in the washroom at Narcoosees. She didn't realize it untill we were back in our room at CBR. I got Narcoossee's phone # and they looked in bathroom, nothing, so they transferred me to GF desk who took down our info, resort, etc. The next night we walked into our room and there was a packet on the bed with the bracelet.
Another visit my other daughter lost her purse on Space Mtn, fell out of car. It was our last day, and it was late afternoon. Had her wallet, cell phone & Rx glasses in it  we spoke with Space CM, who took down info, and leaving park we did a report with Guest Services. 2 weeks later we recieved her purse by mail with everything in it.

Thankfully we've never had issues, prob thanks to these posts that keep you on guard. To be honest I never knew credit card # theft was so prevalent, and to be sure I'll take down info now when I give out my # for anything.
So thanks everyone for posting your experiences, so we all can learn from them.

Yes, I had money and park passes taken from an unlocked safe (my bad). I also forgot my travel jewelry box at OKW. I called the very same day we checked out and days after and it was not found. it was returned to me minus the genuine diamond earrings.

My cell phone was stolen at Victoria Falls Lounge at AKL on Friday 11/14. My fault as I left it on the bar as we were heading out to our Jiko ADR. When I returned to the lounge no one had seen it. I filed a lost and found claim with the resort but 3 weeks later and still not a word. I did suspend my number with Verizon immediately. Got a new phone when I returned home but all my pictures are gone forever.

We went this past October, used disney chase visa for purchases. After we got back charges were made in orlando area. Mac book and some other things. We didn't get charged, got new cards but we assumed a disney or universal person took it since we didn't use any outside those two locations and only used credt card for store merch, not food or anyone else .

Yes, we had our credit card number (not the actual card, just the number) stolen. The only time it was unattended in our room at WL was when we went to the pool area one afternoon, and during that time housekeeping came. A few weeks after our trip, several hundred dollars worth of charges showed up from a store in Florida -- not sure whether they verbally gave the card # at the store, or if the created a new card using our # (since they didn't take the actual card).

WDW was not helpful at all, and the police were "eh" about it. It did take a long time to sort out with BR though!:headache:

Over the years we have gone to Disney we've lost things or forgotten things in the room after check out only to have them returned later. So, we have had great experiences. I have a friend that left $800 in the safe and forgot to lock and and they all disappeared. Disney was less then helpful.
