Have you ever had anything break/leak in your luggage?

We travel alot and (Touch wood!) we have been really lucky. ::yes::

The only thing that's ever burst open was some shampoo coming home on a flight from Orlando. That was before I started putting them in zip-lock bags so there was a bit of a mess, luckily I could just throw the clothes in the washing machine!

We do take care packing anyway, but the way the cases get thrown around I'm always amazed nothing else has been broken before, and that includes our actual suitcases! :p

Did anyone else see Airline on A&E last night ... the Nigerian lady who tried to check a plastic bag full of rotten smoked catfish, and they were crawling with maggots? It was OH MY GOSH revolting.

on a weekend trip a bottle of red wine got smashed in my suitcase!!!

Has not happened to me, but I will never forget the sight of a suitcase coming down the baggage claim carousel oozing white shaving cream through its seams.

nail polish remover EATS contact lenses:earseek:

You know, the brand new ones in the little cardboard packages...6 pairs...dissolved.

Yep, it happened to me *sigh*
Had to throw THAT suitcase out:) pppppeee- eewww!

Now I only take those little packets of remover.

:teeth:

I used to have bad luck with the Body Shop bottles. I landed in Paris with a backpack full of spilled facial cleanser. I did have a good time replacing all those dirty clothes though ;)

Last summer all my clothes got stained with some nasty anti-frizz conditioner that my mom uses. I learned to pack my stuff in ziplock bags but I didn't even know it was in there.

I went to WA state to visit my parents a couple weeks ago. I had just bought a brand new can of very expensive hairspray. The top came off and it sprayed all over everything. The WHOLE can and it wasn't small either. Ugh, everything was covered in hairspray film. Zippy bags for me from now on.

I used to have one of those soft side bags. You know, the kind made of the same stuff they use for parachutes. Apparently, one of the straps caught in a conveyor belt somewhere and tore the bag. There I was, standing in the baggage area at Orlando International, when I see what's left of my bag go by. Shortly thereafter, I see several pairs of my underwear go by all by themselves! I must have looked like some kind of mad women as I dashed along the moving belt grabbing up various pieces of my clothing! I won't buy that type of bag again!

On our last family trip my sister had her suitcase rip open and some stuff came out. Delta was very good about it and issued her a check right there at the airport.

On a different note, after flying I once found something in my luggage that wasnt mine..a red silk bra!

Back in the days before I discovered zippy bags, I had both shampoo and toothpaste leak in my suitcase. Not a pretty sight!

Now I package the toiletries stuff in bags, and I use the big bags to package the clothing in just in case.

Oh no - LOL!!! :p

My stepdad overstuffed my sister's suitcase coming back from Florida in 2002 with all the stuff he didn't have room in his suitcase for (bought too many souvineers). Well her shampoo along with his bottle of shampoo that he had shoved in there (this thing was bursting at the seams) both opened cuz there was so much stuff pushing on them. She had shampoo all over the inside of her suitcase. YUCK

I had nail polish remover in my carry on, and it leaked, so when I opened it half the plane reeked of remover! The man in front of me didn't speak English, so all he could do was turn around and hold his nose to let me know my bag smelled! I almost died laughing, it was both embarrassing and hilarious...I never bother with polish remover anymore.

People should really watch what/how they pack. A couple of years ago, my suitcase came off a flight from Frankfurt smelling like peach schnapps. Some idiot had apparently packed a bottle of it in his suitcase. I hope it ruined everything in that person's suitcase because it sure ruined my suitcase. Nothing could get rid of that smell/stickiness and I had to throw it away! Luckily, the contents of my suitcase were not damaged.

I believe we too have had the sunscreen accident. One of the worst was when a bottle of DW's perfume broke and many of our clothes had an overwhelming smell of the scent:eek:

DH decided to put some cans of soda in his carry on. I told him not to do it, just leave the soda for the housekeeper. But he did not listen to me (as usual!) and one can burst all over his camera. He cleaned and cleaned the camera body and lens but it never worked well again. Maybe he was just trying to get a new camera!

On our trip home last Sat!!! My dd, 10, was lucky enough to have the Candy Lady in Japan make her a beautiful blue unicorn. I couldn't figure out how in the world to get it home. I found a huge coffee mug in BWV gift shop. It was big enough to fit the candy unicorn into. I wrapped tissue paper around it several times and poked a hole in the cardboard gift box for the candy stick to go thru. Place the stick/candy in gently. I thought it was a perfect fit. Put it in our bags and stuffed clothing all around the box. When we got home, all I could hear was rattling!!! When I opened it all up, 3 of the legs and the head had come off!! I was able to hot glue some of the bigger pieces back on but my poor dd was crushed. I knew she should have asked for a panda bear...no little legs etc.!!!!

I have travelled all over the world (250,000 flight miles) and never lost anything: wine, souvenirs, toiletries etc.

DW always packs everything in plastic bags, double checks everything, etc. and her stuff always leaks

Of course I always tease her about it ;)
