Have you ever gotten sick from the water?

Sorry if this isn't posted in the right section, but I wasn't sure which category this would fall in. I remember reading a thread last year about the water making you sick. We are just back from a week and from the very first day there my stomach felt rotten. I never got "sick", just uncomfortable some days. However, the day we returned home my mother was sick all day with a stomach bug. And now 2 days later, my father has been hospitalized from dehydration from the same bug! It's probably just a bug, but I was just curious if this is a common occurence.

We don't like the taste and smell of the water at WDW so we either drink bottled water or use the Brita filtered water bottles to take away the taste. We've certainly never been sick from the water, though.

I hope everybody's feeling better soon!

There is a HUGE post on this subject!! :)
I personally will not drink the water forthis reason!! I have gotten sick twice and I think it is because of the water!! (Im not positive its just a feeling)

I didn't get sick from the water, but I did get more than mild food poisoning from Chef Mickey's. About 2 hrs after eating there I had bad cramps and then proceed to be sick for more than 30 hrs. I didn't v-----, but I did spend alot of time in the potty and could not eat all the next day.

I did eat different than everyone else at our table. Funny thing I called Chef Mickeys and left a message for the manager and no one ever called me back.

This post did make me stop to think if I drank any water there, we always carried our own bottled water.

Momxx5, you're not the only one! Last year, I got something our last night at CBR, (and was sick for our entire three day Wonder cruise). I was sure it was the food I ate (I was the only one who ate the Ahi tuna), and I was miserable on the cruise. I wrote to the manager of CBR, and never heard anything either. I did hear about a case of samonella affecting WDW right after we left, so I always attributed to that.

I didn't drink water, but I DID drink ice tea, and coffee (which was made with the water...). May have to look into a Brita filter for our next trip.

I had a horrible stomach bug the day after we returned from WDW. We were drinking bottled water most of the trip, but ran out of the Dansai, so we bought Florida bottled water and I may have had some tap water somewhere along the way. My sister-in-law also had food poisoning from CRT. I know she drank coffee there. She thought the food poisoning was from the cream for the coffee. She went to the emergency room, and I think they gave her an IV so she wouldn't get dehydrated.

I remember reading that there is a lot of sulpher in the WDW water, and if you're allergic to sulpher-based medicines to stay away from the water.

In theory, you can get sick from any water that is different composition from the water you usually drink regardless of sanitation standards. The sulphur and flat taste of the water at WDW is enough to put me off it most of the time....of course for example fountain drinks use the same water I woule guess. Coca-Cola corp gets lots of Disani business from us on parks tours....

thanks

Our first WDW trip was 8 days, leaving on a Saturday.
By Friday evening my stomach was bothering me, and was getting progressively worse. Not terrible. But enough I was very glad to have Pepcid and Pepto. At first I thought it was the food. But the more I thought about it, doubted that was it. (Four of us in the group, and I have eaten there since with no problem.)
I think it was something that was just building up in my system over the days.
I was drinking tap water.
DH is a water snob and only drank bottled water. He was fine.
The next trip, remembering what I was like nearthe end, I too stuck with bottled water and had NO problems at all.
Maybe a coincidence. But figured it wasn't worth risking anymore.
I don't think it is theri water is bad. It just depends on what your system is use to.
I had a friend who went through the same thing in another part of the country. And she was so bad she even had to go to the doctor when she returned home and he confirmed it was the water. (So she said.)
And like me, her DH was fine and he drank only bottled water.
Between different foods, beverages, diet, schedules, over tired, it is not surprising really. And if you are prone to that anyway....

I dunno..cuz the first taste of it made me wanna puke!! It was awful at ASMu..and at the parks too. Even using the water to brush my teeth had such a metal/chemical taste..it was AWFUL!! Soo...we didn't swallow any of it!!!

Yeah, once your tummy gets upset and you are either vomiting or having diarrhea, you can become dehydrated REAL fast. AND if you have a heart problem, you can find yourself in a life threatening situation pretty quick. Especially if you are in hot weather.

Does anyone else think the water at WDW tastes real salty? It sure does to me... along with the metal/sulpher/general grossness that others have mentioned. I guess its part of the magic of WDW.

I bet the most likely cause of people getting sick at WDW is the parade of people who don't even try to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze... and so spread their germs all through the air where others breathe them in. Or they don't wash their hands when they go to the bathroom and spread disease on everything they touch... walls, hand rails, rides, you name it.

Since it takes most people several days for the illness to "incubate" thats most likely the real cause of getting sick at WDW. Though I'm sure the water doesn't help. Particularly if the cup/glass or whatever that it is in is unsanitary.

Yeah, bottled water is sounding better and better.....:(

It may not just be the water!

I've lived down here for a year now, and I still can't drink Coca-Cola anywhere on WDW property without getting sick like you've all described. The water has never caused me problems, but more than a child's cup of Coke will make me sick all day. (And it honestly doesn't happen anywhere else but at WDW.)

I can only drink bottled water at WDW as the sulpher, salty, taste is more than I can take. I come from New England and I'm used to spring water!

My DD cannot drink the water at WDW - she can't even have ice cubes in her drinks!! We always pack Immodium for her just in case she forgets and has some ice.

I am so glad I am used to the water, as I am a Floridian.:teeth: However, I too, drink Bottled Water, but HATE the Dasani brand, only drink Zephrhills!;)

I drink the tap water at WDW and have never had a problem. My entire family drinks it as well. We also get ice in our cups/glasses - no problem. Occasional coffee - no problem. Fountain sodas - no problem. We even drink out of the water fountains in the parks and never have a problem.

If some of you fly, you are probably exposed to a lot of germs through the recycled air you breathe on the plane.

Wash your hands and that will solve lots of problems.
