Have you ever gave up everything for no reason and relocated?

I don't guess I ever will now since I am 49 and chalk it up to me worrying about DH, (by the way he gets his bone marrow results tomorrow), but I have always wanted to start over somewhere. I don't know if I would be happy and I don't know if I would like it. I have always wanted to live close to a beach. I have lived in three houses my entire life. The one my grandparents lived in, the one where my dad still lives in, and then 29 years right here. DH had bought this house before we got married. It takes me 10 minutes to get to any of the aforementioned houses. I know I would not be happy too far away from my children though. My married DD lives about 20 minutes away and DS will live about 3 hours away when he gets married. DS can make the trip in about 2 1/2 but we drive slower. Just wondered if you had ever done this and if you regretted it or if you were happy?

We certainly did. We packed up the house and put our stuff in storage, rented the house out and moved to St Croix USVI. Norah was 6 at the time and our only child.

There were several personal things going on at the time and it was the perfect time to put some distance between us and extended family. It was one of the best decisions we ever made.

My parents up and moved 3 kids to TN when I was 10yo. We knew nobody here or had ever been here except for 6 months before when we actually picked out the motel we would buy!
My father was a postmaster at the USPS and that must be a crazy job. They were both 38yo and moved and bought a motel in the mountains.
It was a fresh start I suppose. I remember thinking that--even at age 10! I couldn't be happier with our move. I love what I have learned and what my life is here in E. TN. Boots, it is a terrific place to live!
The beach sounds great. I came from the beach--2 blocks away. It's a toss up as far as beach and mtns. go (for me). I dream of Celebration but I am sure that won't happen in this lifetime...

No, Ellen, I haven't. But there are times I really feel the way you do.

Good luck to your husband tomorrow. {{hugs}}

Brenda, your parents have or had a nice motel (do they still have own it?). I've got lots of pics of it (I think I do, anyway. Didn't you say it was the Best Western in Townsend?)

Wasn't Beauty talking about this the other day???

Ah, yea. DH and I talk about this often. Right now we are getting our ducks in a row and may do this. We shall see...
So you are not the only one!;)

No, I have never thought about doing that.

I grew up as a Navy brat and moved and moved and moved and moved. I went to college in Madison, WI 150 miles away from my mother, sister and all my friends. Other than 2 years back in Chicago after graduation I have lived in Madison since 1983 and 10 years in the same house. I got all my moving out of the way early ... I like living in one place.

I think often about packing it all up and headin' south to Florida!!!

Good luck with your hubby, Ellen.:D

Yep we sure did. Finally got tired of the Michigan winters, packed up, and moved to the ocean. It's been a year and a half now and we love it here in NC. We are only 5 minutes from the beach and the warmer weather is just what we needed. My DH and I have lived in MI all our lives and figured it was time to do something special for ourselves. Best present we ever gave to one another. My advice is, if you're thinking it...go live it before it's too late. No regrets! :)

But I did it to be with Chris. I lived in New York all my life until I met Chris. After 3 months of being together I found a new job, sold all my belongings from my Apt and moved to NJ. I don't regret it, although sometimes I think back and wonder what would have happened if it didn't work out? I would have had nothing! But it's 7+ years now and things are good. I would like to do it again someday. Maybe something like Buck's family did.
