Got a slow cooker and love it. Now I'm thinking Thanksgiving. I usually just do a breast, can I throw that into a slow cooker?

Any recipes?

I don't know if it's a good idea to cook poultry at a really low temp for a long time..I keep thinking about the turkey being cooked overnight at about 140 degrees in the movie Accidental Tourist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4azYITFjccA

I have heard you aren't even supposed to cook chicken in a slow cooker, but I have heard that people here do it all the time..I personally wouldn't eat either. JMO..

ETA: I may be getting slow cooker mixed up with Crock Pot. I don't know what the cooking temp is on either, but if it's really low...

My friend made a turkey breast in her slow cooker last week and she has been raving about it ever since. I think she put about a cup of liquid in with it with one of the chicken bouillion packets, and some other seasonings. She said it was very moist and delicious and the liquid made excellent gravy.

It would have to be a pretty small turkey breast to fit in my slow cooker, so I doubt I would ever try it. Google and see if you come up with any slow cooker recipes for turkey breast.

We cooked turkey breast in the crock pot for our church dinner last year and they came out perfect. It had like a gravy packet inside of the package(can't remember the brand think it was butterball:confused: ) we just followed the directions on that and put it all in there. Just a warning it all fell apart and I think we had a little trouble getting it out.

I have cooked a turkey breast in my slow cooker. I put in 1/2 cup of water and a packet of dry turkey gravy mix. Came out great! When it was done, I moved it to the oven just to crisp up the skin on the outside. It was really moist and very tasty. I cooked it on the high settting.

Yes! I do 2 turkey breasts at a time. I use chicken broth and 1/2 bottle of Broiled Steak seasoning. It's SUPER good.

I cook chicken in mine all the time and never ever ever have gotten sick.

I do turkey breast in a slow cooker all the time. Now that you mention it, that might not be such a good idea, huh? Well, we're not dead yet.

It's very good. I prepare almost all big hunks of meat (roasts, etc) in the slow cooker. Just throw it in with a little water and whatever seasonings (just salt and pepper for my family), along with an onion. I throw the potatoes in also. Extremely easy.

Thanks for all the responses. Sounds easy enough but a couple of questions:

1. Are slow cookers and crock pots the same thing?

2. How long for a breast? The usual like for a roast 4 on high or 8 on low?

I love turkey breast in a crockpot!

Make sure it's thawed, then put it in w/a can (or two) of cream of whatever soup. I think I used one can of cream of chicken and one can of cream of broccoli. Cook in on low for 7 hours. Dump however many frozen baby sweet peas you'd like in the pot, then let it cook another hour or two on low. It's probably ready earlier, but I am a food-born illness freak.

I made biscuts and served the turkey over the biscuts. It really falls apart. YUM!!! Not fat-free whatsoever. :rolleyes1

That sounds really good but my DS would freak over the broccoli. I think it's his kryptonite. LOL

Maybe I'll try mushroom or celery.

The best turkey i have ever had was cooked in a roasting pan. See Tylers Ultimate Thanksgiving Recipie on the Food Network site.

Changing the subject just slightly --

We always have pork roast for Christmas dinner, and I experimented with cooking it in my new crockpot the other day. No recipe; just put it in the crockpot and turned it on. It turned out incredible. For Christmas I'll add some apples and spices.

I did this just yesterday! It was only a 3 lb boneless turkey breast, but here's what I did. I seasoned under the skin with seasoned salt and a couple of crushed garlic cloves. I put the breast in the crockpot and arranged a bunch of onion slices and whole garlic cloves around it. I patted thetop with butter and added a little bit of chicken stock to the bottom. I cooked it on high for about 4-5 hours and it was falling apart.

Try this -

Put the pork into the crock.

Put sliced onions on top.

Pour a box a stuffing mix (I use Stove Top pork flavor) over that.

Pour a can of cream of celery soup (with maybe 1/2 or 1 can of water to shake it all out) over everthing.

Cook on low about 6-7 hours.

Delicious!!!!

Works with chops, loin, whatever.

I cook frozen turkey breast in the crock-pot all the time. I never thaw it, just throw it in and turn it on low for the day. I don't season it or anything. I always get wonderful broth and lots of tender meat!

This sounds like something I have to try!

If you do - I forgot to add - make sure to spray the crock with non-stick spray or use a bag. Sometimes, the stuffing gets cooked really well around the edges (which my DH LOVES) and it is hard to get off.
