Have you ever called 911

I was at the post office a couple summers ago and the car next to me had 2 small children (under 5??) left in it. With the car running. I suppose so she could leave the air on???? I waited a full 15 minutes parked next to the car before calling but apparently the line in the post office was a little longer than the mom expected. I decided at that point I had "babysat" long enough and turned it over to the police.

YES!
I was pregnant and I started having massive contractions due to a gall bladder attack. I was alone with my 3 year old (at the time) and no friends/family to call for help; not that anyone could stop what was going on.

I called 911 for help... my DH is a firefighter and was actually the one who responded to the call (along with an embarrassing amount of men who saw me at my absolute worst!!). I was transported to the hospital and kept overnight.

Baby was born emergency c-section 10 days later (4 weeks early) and my gall bladder was removed 5 days after the c-section.

Quite dramatic.

Many, many times especially having at one point two sick parents. It was sad when the paramedics knew me by name.

I have also called the non-emergency number several times.

Just once that I remember. I had a vet here at the farm stitching up a horse that had ripped his face open. It was about 14 degrees that night. The vet started saying that she was feeling dizzy. She said it was getting worse. We had her sit down but then she passed out on us. I called 911. It took them forever to get here. As I remember, I had to call a second time and was told they couldn't find us. They said "oh yeah, you're the report of a person kicked in the head by a horse." Ummm, no, it was a vet stitching a horse and she passed out on her own. They finally found us.

Just once. We called in to report a drunk driver. We followed them with 911 on the phone until the police caught up.

I've called twice. The first time was for a dog locked in a car in Florida during the middle of the summer.

The second was when an aquaintance of my daughter told her he was going to kill himself. Basically, 911 refused to do anything. They told me to have him call the suicide number. The couldn't do anything unless he called them directly. Fortunately, I managed to reach his sister. She said that it was not the first time he'd told someone this and not to worry. He didn't hurt himself. It turned out that this was a way to get attention from girls. My daughter stopped talking to him.

Many times! where I work our phones are 911, then non emergency and then the personal cell number of the sheriff. Then in the summer I seem to be calling 911 or non emergency line frequently.

most memorable: last year my transport got away and decided to jog down the highway in front of my car. I was on speaker phone with my supervisor and on another phone with dispatch while following.

Ive called for fires, lockdowns, flight risks, property damage while it was being damaged. suicide attempts/threats. break ins, drunk driving twice (1 was drunk, the other he was going into diabetic shock), asthma attacks. I think that is about it.

I know dispatch and sheriffs depts. on first name basis in two counties.

A couple of.times for car crashes

Once I called the non emergency number because a huge bear was in our yard...

That's unfortunate. DH's ex girlfriend threatened to kill herself when he broke up with her...so he called 911 and told them she had threatened such. They went over to her apartment to check on her. I understand she was mightily embarrassed and he never heard from her again.

a few times.

Once I came home to my moms door being wide open. So I called.
Once there was a crazy driver in front of us on the interstate.

The worst was having to call 911 on my own father.

Just once. We called in to report a drunk driver. We followed them with 911 on the phone until the police caught up.

I did that once with an elderly woman who was clearly lost and in no shape to drive - although I used channel 9 on the CB, not 911 :rotfl:

Non emergency, small town so everything goes to one place.

Gotta love small town law. Once, on the way to a canoe float, a local sheriffs car came around our bus lights and sirens blaring. Little further up the road, he was in the road shooing cattle out of the road :rotfl:

Quite a few times, actually.

I worked in a bank that had whole walls of windows and situated at an intersection. There was a car coming down the road sssssooooooo ssssllooooowwllyy - maybe 5-10 mph? :confused3 When the car finally got close enough for us to see the driver, we saw that she was having some sort of seizure. Her front tire popped the curb in front of the bank and stopped as she hit a sign pole. I think I was a bit too emotional for the 911 operator - she didn't keep me on the phone long at all.

Another time I came home really late - 11 pm or so - to see my neighbor's front door wide open with no lights on in the house at all. The neighbors had been going through some issues (she had kicked him out and had a restraining order against him) so there was just NO WAY I was getting too close. Turns out, the electric was shut off due to non-payment so she left for her parents' house that afternoon. Apparantly someone just forgot to shut the door after they packed up and left.

A few times I witnessed car accidents.

Also called the non-emergency number when I saw water jetting up between the asphalt and the curb on one of the roads in my neighborhood. Turned out to be a water main break under the road.

Unfortunately I've had to call 911 a few times

1. Mom was having symptoms of a heart attack (luckily it was not)
2. Found a person on the side of the road all bloody and pretty out of it
3. Found an elderly woman pulled over and looking like she was in pain. Turns out she was having heart issues.
4. Drunk drivers on the road
5. Saw a car vs. pedestrian
6. Saw a second car vs. pedestrian

...I'm beginning to think I don't have the best of luck.

This is so sad, but I had to call myself, for myself.

I was 2 months pregnant, going to work, and I felt it...and I knew I was miscarrying. I pulled over on the 55 Freeway in California in traffic and called 911. A nice man (an angel) pulled over when he saw me crying hysterically, shaking my head. He stayed with me and held my hand and I was in the drivers seat and I had to lean on him, shift my body and he just held me until the paramedics came (on the freeway, it took awhile). It was awful. He called 911 too to give them more detailed location information.

He also sent me flowers. I could tell he was pretty upset and shocked but he just comforted me. My hubby later spoke to him to thank him for stopping and taking care of me. :flower3: :lovestruc It was so private and obviously, personal, and he was an angel.

I am an emergency dispatcher. Just know that even tho the caller may think the questions are ridiculous, we may have our reasons and the caller may never know them.

I have called a few times. ::yes::

I called once on a motorcycle who was weaving in and out of traffic while going way over the speed limit. He was out of sight so fast! Several miles down the road the cops had him pulled over. When we drove by they had him across the hood of the police car and were handcuffing him. :cool1:

I have called on drunk drivers before. I call on every one I see so watch out! :flower3:

I have called when I thought someone was in our garage. That was scary! They sent out a little woman police officer anti thought we all were going to die! Turns out no one way in there. :upsidedow

I have called the non emergency line several times. Once or a HUGE snake by my pool! :crazy2: Animal control was closed so they sent an officer out.

I called for myself. I was hit head-on by an man having a diabetic attack. They put me on hold. I guess it was a busy day, but I will say they did get there pretty fast. The fire dept was great. We had to wait on an out of town ambulance so that took awhile. I was the last to get an ambulance, but the worst injured. I guess because I was the youngest they thought I could wait.
