Have you ever boycotted a product due to a moral issue?

But if Tom Monaghan SOLD Domino's, doesn't that mean you don't have to boycott it anymore?
I used to boycott Loreal because of animal testing--I bought an eye shadow from them a few months ago, figuring after all this time they would have stopped.
My union WANTS me to boycott Walmart--I don't shop there, but just because it's not convenient for me--if it was and they had the best deal, I would go there. I don't like the fact that my union thinks I'm a puppet.

I used to get mailings(catalogs) from Abercrombie and Fitch, but wrote and asked to be removed from their mailing list due to their "soft porn" photos. I'm not in their target group, but DD will not shop there. (DS better not even think about.) I inwardly cringe when I see some of his classmates wearing clothes with the A&C logo.

I ABOSLUTELY agree with you on this one...When the company first started making those ads I stopped shopping there and wrote a letter myself also.
There is NO place to advertise that to young people! I mean, didn't they once (maybe they still do) make thongs for young girls?! :earseek:

I don't look down on those who do shop there...they can make their own decisions. I would have a hard time judging them seeing as I coached HS cheerleaders for 12 years (their target sales group) :rotfl:

Just a personal decision...

I won't buy any Hartz products because they kill animals and continue to sell their products

I won't buy any pet supplies from Eukanuba, Science Diet, IAMS, or Purina because their marketing is deceptive.

I won't even go into Abercrombie as their marketing is disturbing.

Interesting thread--people boycott, obviously, for a variety of reasons. We don't shop at Wal-mart, haven't for years. I already knew about American Girl's "I Can" promo, but hadn't heard about the boycott. Now, I KNOW I'm buying the Elizabeth doll for my DD for Xmas. :teeth:

I don't eat veal, I don't buy diamonds, and I don't wear fur. I buy products not tested on animals, and try to avoid products from companies that do animal testing.

Anne ~ Just curious....why don't you buy diamonds? Thanks!!

I don't shop at Wal-mart

There are certain species of fish I don't eat because they're over fished (oh how I miss my swordfish!) and I try to avoid products tested on animals.

I try to buy fair trade coffee but sometimes I can't find any.

I’m not crazy about the idea of boycotting for several reasons. First of all, I don’t expect everyone to agree with me on moral issues. Just like I am friends with people who have opposing viewpoints, I realize that companies and their owners will also have viewpoints different from my own.

Secondly, sometimes company executives give to very different causes than the companies themselves. For example, let’s say a certain company donates to liberal causes because they think those viewpoints are in the best interest of their company but the executives donate to conservative causes. It’s often not a “cut and dried” issue.

That being said, I would boycott for something extreme. For instance, I am not a fan of Ben & Jerry’s or Paul Newman’s products due to their support of Mumia. That doesn’t mean I would never ever buy them, just that I try to avoid them.

Honesty, no. I have so much going on in my life with work, family and keeping sane, that to sit around and research who gives to what, who tests on what or someones support of some organization or political leanings, is not doable. I buy what I like and let it go. In my very humble opinion, there are so many people out there that me boycotting something is not going to hurt them or their bottom line, and again, frankly, I don't have the time or energy to make it a priority. My priorities are my DH, DD, my fur babies and my job, my other family, paying the bills...well, you get the picture. When I donate money to cause, thats how I let my voice get heard.

I applaud these two companies for their support of the cause of Mumia Abu-Jamal. He did not get a fair trial. There is overwhelming evidence that key witnesses lied under oath, and that the presiding judge was racist. Until I read not only the "propoganda" from Mumia's supporters, but also the trial notes in law journals, I also believed he was guilty. Now I believe that in the least he is entitled to a new, fair trial, which he did not get the first time around.

By the way, anyone wishing to boycott American Girl for the I Can bracelets also need to boycott Bath and Body Works. They're selling them too! (No way I could ever boycott B&BW!!!!)

The civil war and terrible violence against innocent civilians in Sierra Leone is entirely due to control of the diamond insutry. A good deal of the diamonds sold worldwide are the result of forced labor, brutality, and have funded terrorism. (Look at a map to see how close the dimaond mines in Sierra Leone are to Liberia, and connect the dots)

I haven't boycotted a company, but I did refuse to see that movie with Jane Fonda - Monster In Law. Dad was a Viet Nam vet and even if the whole POW thing wasn't true, it still wasn't cool of her to have that picture taken.

It just goes back to an incident when I was a kid and a sign some other vets had up. Just stuck with me.

Oh, and it's not that I'm some big Bush supporter (I'm not) but I'll never buy another Dixie Chicks albulm again.

Boycotted Gillette

I saw a program many years agon on the animals used in the testing of their products that appalled me...so since then...never have had a product in my home that does not say "Not tested on Animals" on it. This has now carried over to my daughters and many friends...just word of mouth. :confused3

I also don't eat Veal and do not support some Charities due to the fact that many of the 'Executives' in the ranks earn more than six figures annually.
I am curious why no Diamonds too?

DH and I left the Roman Catholic church when Pope Benedict was chosen, and joined the Episcopal church.

And on the side of putting your money where your mouth is, we flew to Washington DC for the weekend last year to attend the March for Women's Lives.

And I won't see any more Tom Cruise movies because I was deeply offended by his comments regarding Brooke Shields' PPD.

No kidding. I wish his mothership would just come and take him away already!
