Have you ever boycotted a product due to a moral issue?

I boycotted all South African imports when the vile Apartheid regime was in place.

Well its my understanding that Dominos does or at one time did support Right to Life groups . ( Including groups that blew up clinics)

Tom Monaghan has sunk a large portion of his money into the building of Ave Maria University (a Roman Catholic institution).

"he sold Domino's, reportedly for $1 billion, to devote his money to what he sees as God's work. "The bottom line is to get people into heaven," says the Domino's founder about the school plans."

A few year's ago I boycotted Bentton because I didn't like the advertising slogans.

I read an article once about South African wine, how the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome rate in that area was very VERY high. Owners were forbidden to pay their workers in wine but it still continued. I decided then I wouldn't be drinking any South African wine. Problem is, I don't drink much wine at all.

I had no idea about the American Girl Doll situation and I thank the person who posted the article. My daughter has 2 dolls and we are heading to the NYC store next month to buy more accessories. I will probably buy more now!

It seems like forever we didn't eat veal. Do people still avoid veal?

I try to avoid Walmart stores as well.

Mine is from an old grudge- I won't buy a Mercedes because, of course they stopped production of cars in WWII and started making weapons, for Germany. They also threw lots of money into Nazi projects.

Do you include Mitsubishi? They made the Zeroes that bombed Pearl Harbor.

VW also made the German version of the Jeep, not to mention Henry Ford was known to support Nazi causes for a time.

I have - my Mom, Aunt's & Cousins worked for a company making Maxnavox, Norelco, Phillips products. I won't buy any of them as they shut the company down and moved it to Mexico for cheaper labor while leaving so many without jobs here in our area.

And Hugo Boss supplied the Nazi uniforms, I believe.

I'm still boycotting Exxon over the Valdez spill that we all paid to clean up. With the way oil and gas companies merge, they're probably still getting my money somehow.

my DH wont go near an exxon

I refuse to buy a Ford too (not that they have anything I want anyway) because a Ford dealership wrecked my car (before I bought it) and had the entire frame straightened. Of course, then all the body work. Hubby was sitting at home one night when a service tech called to inform us that it had happened. We bought the car with 2000 miles on it, so it wasn't used. The service tech also said there were several others suing the dealership because it had happened to them too. We had our car checked by 3 different mechanics after that call, and all of them said it had been wrecked and the frame was bent; meaning it should have been totaled right then. Ford did close the dealership down for their faulty practices, but they refused to back their product up. I know it wasn't their fault really, but that dealership represented them and they wouldn't even buy the new tires that needed replaced shortly after we bought it.

As long as I'm alive, not a dime of the money my husband and I make will ever go into another of their products.

Oh well, I hate their automobiles anyway, so it's not really any great loss.

It's a personal vendetta though, not a moral issue for me.

OH, and I talked 2 friends out of Ford Mustangs since that's happened too. :)

did you post that story here along time ago i thought i remebered reading it
?thats crazy

I refuse to eat at Quiznos because of the dead mouse they used in their commercials. I even wrote them a letter telling them that mouse was disgusting.

My 6 y/o is getting the AG Bitty Twins for Christmas along with the double stroller and a bunch of clothes. These dolls hold up well and are meant to be played with.

I agree with you. We have 2 here and many outfits and different furnishings for them. At 11 years old though, my daughter had outgrown them. If an 11 year old plays with dolls, I say go for it, but to pay $100 for a doll just to make a statement is a bit much IF the child shows no interest in them. Like I said, we've packed ours away and they will someday be passed on down to my granddaughter and we'll probably buy her new ones too.

I boycotted veal for years until I realized two things:

1. I was not putting a dent in the veal industry
2. Veal tastes good!

I used to get mailings(catalogs) from Abercrombie and Fitch, but wrote and asked to be removed from their mailing list due to their "soft porn" photos. I'm not in their target group, but DD will not shop there. (DS better not even think about.) I inwardly cringe when I see some of his classmates wearing clothes with the A&C logo.

I did post it before. I think it was on another boycott thread.

My son's friend has had nightmares about that creature. :rotfl:

I won't shop at Burlington coat factory, ever! A few years ago they were found to be importing fur trimmed coats. It turns out the fur was from a factory in china and it was cat fur. Even after the company found out, they continued to sell the coats and do business with the factory.

I was very conflicted last year about joining Curves since the owner of that company donates 10% of his profits to pro-life groups. Instead of boycotting, I gave 15% of what I paid to Curves and gave it to planned parenthood.

I refused to buy "Self" magazine for years because they ran cigarette ads. I could never figure out why a magazine devoted to health and fitness would make their money from these ads.

I recently looked at a copy and noticed there were no tobacco ads. I felt much better about the magazine, then.

I boycott Ben and Jerry's due to their support of Mumia (cop killer). This cop's wife is happy to get ice cream elsewhere. I'm sure I could think of others if I gave it a minute...

Erin :)

Yup, no Ben and Jerry's and no Snapple either, they support Mumia.
