Have you ever booked a standard view room and regretted it?

We have never stayed at POFQ, but are booked to stay there in January! Currently we are booked in a river view room, but see that the majority of those are connecting rooms. DH prefers to be in a non-connecting room if possible. Anyway, on portorleans.org I see that more of the standard rooms are non-connecting. I know that nothing is guaranteed, but statistically our chances of being in a non-connecting room are greater if we book a standard view room. Any thoughts on standard view rooms would be appreciated!

I have had 2 standard rooms and both were nice. We overlooked the gardens at one and the 2nd was looking at woods with air conditioning units off to the right. They didn’t interfere with our view or trip at all.

I never worry about the view when I am booked at a moderate resort, I keep my blinds closed so that no one can see in and I am certainly not standing outside the room to take in the sights.

Such a good point!

I have never been disappointed in a standard room anywhere, but especially not at POFQ. The resort is small enough that no room is really far from anything. Especially there, I would not spend the money for anything but a standard. P.S. YOU'RE GONNA LOVE POFQ!! :joker:

I've booked standard almost every trip.

And I have no regrets.

The only time I didn't book standard was at ASSports. But that was because I wanted to be close to the bus stop.

At a deluxe resort I have had both standard and much better views, and while I MUCH prefer the better views I would not go as far as saying I regretted booking the standard. They serve their purpose - be it to save money, if it holds 5 people and the other views only allow 4, if you won't be in the room much at all, or if it's all that's available. However, in a value or moderate resort I wouldn't hesitate to book a standard. Since there is no balcony and people walk right by your window on the walkway, I don't think it matters. It's not like you'll be sitting out there enjoying the view even if you have one. At those resorts I feel location related to the food court/shop and/or pool and/or parking lot for your car is more important, so unless you want to book preferred (at the resorts that offer that, I don't know if POFQ does or not) I would book standard to save a little money and put in room requests.

At POFQ, standard rooms are our preferred category. The river view rooms are nice, but not worth paying extra $$$, IMO. We have never regretted booking standard, but we have regretted booking more expensive views (that turned out to be awful!) At least with standard view, you aren't upset with yourself for paying extra when the view is poor.

I also agree with other posters, paying for a view at moderate or value resorts is not a good use of vacation $$$ due to exterior walkways.

No. but we don't tend to be in the room that much. OTOH, when we stay at Kidani, it is wonderful to sit on the balcony in the morning and watch the animal in the Savannah.

We have never booked a preferred room at POFQ as the resort is small and very easy to get around. Book standard and you will have money to spend on something else at Disney. Have a great trip!

There are no rooms classified as Preferred at POFQ because it's so small. :thumbsup2

Views have never been super important to me, so I tend to book standard/garden views.
I’ve looked out at parking lots and such, but I’ve also gotten a decent amount of view upgrades over the years and ended up with amazing views of the boardwalk, rivers, pools and all.
We DID get one “standard” view room at Dolphin that made me laugh out loud it was so bad. (It was for one night, so we didn’t care, but I’ve never had anything close to this view at a Disney-owned resort)

That's...not good. :D

We actually spent more and booked a garden view at Beach Club. Our view was of a raggedy looking tree. Would have been happier with paying less for a standard and looking at a roof!

All you can do with that view is laugh!

We actually prefer standard view to river view at POFQ, because river view rooms can be by the boat docks, and you can hear the horns at night.
