Has anyone ever gotten upgraded when their cruise was booked with DVC points? I've never heard of this happening so I wonder if we even have a chance. This will be our 3rd cruise. I'm thinking we will rent our points and pay cash next time if our odds will improve--plus we have more things we can qualify for such as onboard credits. Congrats to all those that have been upgraded! I get excited just reading about it!

First cruise for us in December. Just received docs. Booked Cat 11 GTY and were bumped to Cat 10. Happy with the little bit of extra room and the split bath.

You are on our cruise.. we don't have documents yet... They seem to be coming out early this year, we have never recieved them before 30days out. Anyhow the split bath is GREAT! it is nice to be able to take a shower while someone else uses the facilites in a seperate space ;)

First cruise using DVC Points this past August, and we were upgraded from Cat 9 to Cat 5.

We went on a 4 day last September and we were upgraded from a category 6 to a 4. We booked with all seasons.

We booked a category 12 for our August 1998 land/sea. Our room was not upgraded but we were given a category 9 room. We were very surprised with the upgrade and did not know about it ahead of time. We went to the room number we knew about and a mousekeeper came in and told us that no one was in the room that particular cruise but kindly helped us find out where are room actually was. Our luggage also went to the wrong room at first. In our case I think that it had to do with the unsureness of the actual start date for dcl since it got postponed a bit in the beginning. This time we are booked on a category 10 secret porthole room. Honestly though we could stay in crew quarteres and be just as happy to be on a disney cruise.

We just received our documents for our December 18th cruise. We were upgraded from cat 11 to a cat 8. A room with a view. This is our first cruise ever. Needless to say, we are thrilled.

We were upgraded from an inside stateroom to a stateroom with a Navigator's Verandah on our 10/23/03 Wonder trip. Seems they overbooked the inside staterooms, and they bumped us up. It was wonderful (no pun intended)! :)

Hi,

I am curious, what is an upgrade and is there a certain travel agency you have to go through to get one?

ADisneyMom

An upgrade is when you book a certain cabin or catagory and you are then moved to a higher one without paying the cost difference. On some cruiselines it is quite common, on Disney not very common, there does not seem to be a whole lot of pattern behind the upgrades except they seem to happen more often on the wonder than the magic, more often if you book a lower cat. cabin and in off season. It is important to remember that each week THOUSANDS of people sail with DCL and only a handfull of them actually get an upgrade so you should always book the catagory you will be happy with. Then if an upgrade is bestowed upon you it will be "icing on the cake" but if you don't get one you won't spend the week feeling let down or dissapointed.

2 cruises, no upgrades. We booked a category 6 each time (cash). We have a category 8 booked for a 7 day Easter cruise on DVC points; I'm sure we won't get upgraded which is just fine with us!

I cant go back and change my vote but did want to post that I was provided a "free" upgrade for my upcoming Nov 16th Cruise. Now I am thrilled and actually impressed with DCL on what they did for me as it wasnt their responsiblity. Due to recent ankle surgery I will require a handicapped accessible room, I didnt know this until about 2 weeks prior to sail date, and since I booked a cat 7 and there are no handicapped rooms in that catagory I was upgraded to a 6. I assumed I would have to pay the difference, however I dont have to. They said it was on the house:)

Disney never dissapoints me when it comes to assisting those truely in need. I hope you heal fast from your surgery :)

After booking and paying 13 months in advance for for a specific cabin room with a porthole on the Magic for the 10/11/03 cruise we arrived at port and were told that the cabin we had reserved was not in service. We were moved into an inside cabin, obviously without a porthole. Our travel agent went to disney to see about the money difference and Disney said NO, they felt that they ( Disney) did nothing that warranted a refund of the porthole room prive over the inside cabin price.

Now the kicker is that we called the rcabin that was " out of service" and someone was staying in that cabin.
Never count on where cabin is until you are in your room with the door locked....

Bye, Bettemom

you paid for an outside stateroom with a porthole and were downgraded to an inside stateroom with no porthole with no explanation and no refund?? WOW, I am amazed, I have never heard of someone being downgraded, let alone without a refund. Were you perhalps in a "secret porthole" cabin and it was for some reason out of service so you got another cat. 10 cabin? If that is the case yes, people should be aware that when you pay for a lower cabin hoping to get the great deal (like the reclassified cabins) then you do have to be prepared to get only what you paid for...dissapointing I am sure.. I hope they at least did something to make you feel more comfortable. If that was not the case then I am really interested in hearing what happend!

::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo We've been on two DCL cruises with no upgrades. Our next cruise is a back-to-back on the Magic in January ... no word on an upgrade but I am not looking for one. We booked the room we wanted and will be happy there.:earsgirl: :earsboy:

Were are cruising on the WONDER Nov 30th and we found out a few weeks ago are whole party was upgraded. We had 4 room in a Cat 11 and they were booked In Sept 03. We even told them we did not need to have rooms together if that was not possible since we booked the cruise kind of late.

We were all very surprised to learn we had all been upgraded to a Cat 8 room on Deck 5 and all 4 rooms are together.

We are getting very excited for our upcoming cruise.

By the way our cruise was booked through Vacations To Go and all paid for together.

Our 11/22 Cruise is the trip of a lifetime for our family. We've been saving like mad to be able to make it. Several "friends" have told us to make sure to "splurge" and get a verandah. At the very least, they said, make sure to get a window. Well, flying my family across the country, going on a seven day Caribbean cruise, and spending a few days in Orlando is already quite a splurge. I just smiled, though, and quietly told them we were very happy with what we could afford.
You can imagine my elation when I received news that we were upgraded to a cat 9.
We weren't expecting it, but it is wonderful.
Also, we sailed ten years ago, before we had our children, on Carnival, and still couldn't afford anything other than an inside cabin. Our TA assured us that we would be upgraded; we weren't, but we weren't the least bit disappointed, either.
