Have you ever been upgraded at CBR?

I hear of people getting upgrages at the Deluxes but never CBR?!?!?!

We weren't upgraded at CBR, but I have read on the boards of others who have been upgraded to a preferred room.

We are staying at CBR on our next visit!! Our first time to stay there, and we are waaaayyyyy excited!!!!! I would love to get upgraded, but since this is our first visit, I guess I don't know what I'm missing.

We stayed at the CBR in June, 2006 and June, 2007. During our 2006 stay, we were assigned to Jamaica and we absolutely loved the location! So much so that I requested the same location for our June, 2007 stay. When we arrived, we were told we had been upgraded to a preferred location in Martinique. In all honesty, the walk was about the same as our Jamaica walk. The room layout and everything was the same too. I was still tickled to get an upgrade!

2) Had a parking lot room (Standard View), and asked what could be done.
3) In speaking with a manager, I nicely suggested a few alternatives.
4) He said he couldn't do those.
5) Then, I suggested some other things that I knew he could do.
6) Voila!

Stayed at CBR in February 2005 & May 2006 and both times upgraded to a preferred room at no extra charge. We didn't ask for anything other than to be close to a bus stop (2 children). Stayed in Martinique 2005 and Jamaica 2006 and loved both, but if I had to choose I would probably choose........Jamaica! Beautiful resort. We stayed at CS resort in September 2006 and will be staying at POR in a few weeks. Husband and I will be at POR 9/1 thru 9/9 and then Mom, daughter and two little granddaughters from 9/22-9/29!! Life is good, especially when Disney is in the picture!

Ummm, yeah. We were upgraded to concierge at WL which was awesome but MAN does that spoil you! Have a great trip, upgrade or not.

My mother was given one of the preferred rooms once at no extra costs. She was traveling with my grandmother who doesn't get around so easily, so that might have had something to do with it.

In all honesty, I wouldn't pay for a preferred room or preferred view. The entire resort is beautiful so a little walking will be a pleasant walk. The complete loop around the promenade is only 1.3 miles. There is a walkway in the middle of the lake. You can cross the bridge and go through the pretty island to get to the opposite side of the lake.

If I were you, I would request a room facing a courtyard. The courtyards are very lush with some having umbrella tables and chairs. Others have benches.

Disney's idea of a water view can be either a swimming pool or a lake. Even if you get a tiny glimpse of water, it's considered a water view. To me, it's not worth the extra money.

At CBR, preferred location means being in one of the 6 buildings closest to Old Port Royale, the central hub that has the food court, restaurant, main pool, water sports, arcade, shops, etc.

The preferred location rooms include every single room in Trinidad North (buildings 31, 33 and 33), and half of the rooms in Martinique (buildings 24, 25 and 26 -- Martinique buildings 21, 22 and 23 are NOT preferred location buildings).

So that's the only thing preferred location means ... it means being closer to OPR than the non-preferred location rooms. Other than relative closeness to OPR, there is NOTHING different about preferred location rooms as compared with rooms anywhere else in the resort. Exactly the same size, same furnishings, same amenities, etc.

A few posts above, Dimples wrote of being upgraded to a preferred location room in Jamaica, which is impossible, as Jamaica is not a preferred location village.

The only other available upgrades at CBR are water view and king-size bed. Water view means a room that has a view of either Barefoot Bay (the lake) or one of the quiet pools. Since each village has some frontage on the lake and since each village has a quiet pool, each village has some water view rooms.

IMHO, water view isn't worth it at any of Disney's Moderate resorts. This is due to the exterior corridors. Your window and door open onto an exterior corridor, the walkway that people use to get to and from their rooms. Therefore, this exterior corridor is between you and whatever it is you want to view. So if you have your curtains wide open, that means that everyone walking by has a great view of YOU. No, I'm not talking about peeping Toms, as some people think I mean, for some reason. I'm just talking about the fact that as people walk by they can see you in your room. Me, I like privacy, I just don't like the idea of being able to be seen in the privacy of my own room, I just can't relax that way. Anyway, just wanted you to have the info on the view thing.

King-size bed is self-explanatory. There is no special section of king-szie bed rooms at CBR ... they're sprinkled throughout the resort.

One of these upgrade categories costs between $15 and $26 per night, depending on season.

Interestingly, Disney won't let you pay for more than one upgrade category. In other words, if you want to guarantee a preferred location room you must reserve and pay for it, let's say an extra $15 per night. You CAN'T at the same time also pay another $15 per night to guarantee a king-size bed inside that preferred location room. Since every village has water view rooms, that means that there are a goodly number of preferred location rooms that also have water views. The people occupying those rooms were sprinkled with pixie dust, because it is literally impossible that they paid for and thus guaranteed both of those upgrades. And I'm sure a small handful of those rooms also have king-size beds. Well, those people will all 3 upgrades in a single room are just pixie dust hogs and should be shunned and ridiculed by the rest of us.

I forgot to address the last part of your question. Because the trees and shrubbery are so lush, if you do have a "parking lot view" you are not facing out at a stark parking lot.

Both times I;ve stayed at CBR, I had what I guess you would call a parking lot view if you had to call it something. But I NEVER thought of it as a parking lot view. Both of these rooms were on the second floor (one in Trinidad North, one in Aruba), and all I remember seeing were green trees. I'm sure there was blacktop and cars that I could see between the leafy trees, but it didn't shout out "motel room" to me. And I seriously never recall hearing traffic noise or car doors closing or anything like that.

We did not pay extra for the courtyard view. They are very pretty too!

We didn't. I even asked if there was anything available, but they said no, they were booked up. So, we ended up in Aruba section in a std. view room. For the first part of our stay there were groups of cheerleaders there, so that probably had something to do with it being all booked up in the 2nd week of Feb.
