Have you ever been charged for damage that you did to your DVC unit?

I just read the thread about the room that was written all over by the previous guest. I wondered if the people that did the damage were charged for the damage? Has anyone ever been made to pay for room damages? I would hope that anyone who damages a unit would be held responsible. It is not fair to members who treat the unit as their own home and are considerate to have to pay for those who are not.

Good point. We have not ever caused damage to the rooms so we have not been charged.

One of the DVC Sales Reps at Vero Beach told us a story about a local father (not a member) who rented a GV for his daughter and her friends to use for after the prom or graduation or something like that. They TOTALLY trashed the villa. It needed to be re-carpeted, re-painted, furniture replaced, they used the CLOSET for a pile of ice and beer, etc. etc. etc. The sales rep even questioned the kids the next day about the damage while they were waiting for their parents to pick them up. The father was not held responsible for it and no one was made to pay for repairs.

So I guess that means that all of the Vero owners ended up paying for it. Real nice.

So, let me see if I understand this. People can damage rooms (beyond normal broken dish or ding in coffee table) and not be held responsible for it? Oye Vey. Not good. No wonder the dues are so high.

So why weren't the "children" in question arrested for both possession and vandalism. Disney goes too far in being polite. At the very least Goofy's big old foot should have been up some one's uhm, seating area.

Hmm...maybe my wife is correct...I am getting more like Red Forman. :)

I have read many a news story about local law enforcement officals being mad at what crimes Disney doesn't report to local law enforcement officials that occur on Disney property.

It looks like we are paying a price for it too. Its time we start applying preasure to the powers to be to change this.

The sales rep didn't question the girl in an official way, she said she saw the girl sitting on a bench looking tired and hung over and walked up to the girl and said in a sarcastic tone "Judging by the room it looks like you all had a fun night last night" or something similar. The girl just gave her a dirty look.

I agree. We as DVC members shouldn't have to pay for this. I questioned the sales rep at the time about who pays for the damages and she gave me an answer that I remember making me feel better, but I don't remember what the answer was (this conversation happened about 5 years ago). Does insurance cover it? If we do in fact pay for it out of our dues we should certainly write to someone or bring it up at an owners meeting. Who should we contact? Member Services? The resort?
