Have you ever been busted for sneaking food into the movies?

If I plan ahead, I will pick up a big bottle of water and 20 ounce coke for DH, plus maybe some candy. I'm a sucker for movie theater popcorn so we often still get a popcorn to split. Never had an issue.

My favorite place to see movies is the movie tavern and go for dinner and a movie so no sneaking in food needed!

I just bring candies like twizzlers. But I usually buy popcorn/pop out in the lobby...because its Sooooooooooo good!!!:cloud9:

But when I was younger my mother would take this gaint bag into the theater with can pop and candies from the dollar store. Never was caught.

our main movie theater is in the mall..it's an AMC and they allow you to bring in outside food and drink...people are always coming in with starbucks or drinks from the food court....I've seen people come in with Chik-fil-a and eat it before the movie started before...so no problems at ours!

I always sneak in bottles of water for me and the kids in my purse. I sometimes might sneak in some gummy bears or licorice but usually I will buy some popcorn. I don't know if I even need to hide my water. I know there have been times I've just carried it in and they said nothing.

I've tried to bring in Starbucks at a couple theaters near here. One said it is fine, one made me finish/toss it before I went inside.

We always sneak in candy from Walmart or the Dollar Tree. Once we popped popcorn and had it in a gallon Ziplock and had it in a bag of my Dds when she was small. We also brought a couple of empty plastic cups in and my DH bought the large (free refills) drink and me and DD filled our cups and then Dh went to get his refill!!!

Now we usually buy the big popcorn and share!!

My former roommate talked me into bringing an ice cream cone in with me and said she and her ex-husband had snuck Chinese food in before....she was very sketchy, though.

Years ago a friend and I brought chinese food in with us. Chop sticks and all.

Now I try and remember to bring some candy so the kids only buy soda and popcorn.

My mom and Dad get Chik-Fil-A and wait til the lights go down then dig in! They do this several times a month as they LOVE movies. And Chik-Fil-A.

We've also brought in Chinese food. I'm sure other people could smell it. And there was no way to unwrap the egg rolls from the wrappers without being heard. But, no one said anything.

Usually, I bring in my own drink, but buy the theatre's popcorn. I hate cold popcorn, so I wouldn't bother to sneak it in and I love the butter they put on it.

My parents used me as a popcorn mule.

I'm still bitter about it...

I don't remember the movie we went to see, but I was single digit age...I had a small trash bag filled with popcorn from home shoved in my winter coat.
I was pretty small and the bulging coat was a BIG giveaway.

I just remember having to unzip my coat and remove the contraband corn which was unceremoniously dumped in the trash.

I'm gonna bring this up next time mom calls, see if she remembers :rotfl:

That is too funny! :rotfl2:

We are going to see HP6 tomorrow and we stopped in the dollar store today and got our candy :thumbsup2. I also have the water bottles chilling (a 6 pk for $1 vs. $3 per water at the theater is a no-brainer to me). I'm taking my 4 girls, my nephew and oldest DD's BFF so if we were to get our snacks from the counter, I'd easily be looking at spending around $60 just on that. Crazy. :sad2:

I worked at a big movie theater all through high school and on all of my college breaks. Some of my friends from then are still working at movie theaters as district managers. Maybe things are different for small independent theaters, but I can tell you that at the big chains (loews, amc, showcase, etc), nobody is going to search you for food. If you tried to walk in with a large pizza or a drippy cheeseteak someone might say something but otherwise, as long as you are discreet about it, you should be fine.

It's true that most theater profits come from the concessions, but angering patrons over a brought in candy bar or a bottle of water is not good business practice either, and the theaters know that.

Years ago dh and I snuck in two pepsi's in glass bottles. The theatre had a sloping floor. We sat in the back and there wasn't anyone around us for several rows. Dh finished his pepsi and set the bottle on the floor between us.
I finshed mine and set it on the floor on the other side of me. I was moving around to get more comfortable and I knocked dh's bottle over. Which very loudly clanged all the way down to the front of the theatre. It was obvious it was us, there was no one else near us. Dh was REALLY embarrassed. A few minutes later I was again moving around to get comfortable and...you guessed it, I knocked mine over too! It clanked all the way down to the front and wveryone was Turning around to look at us and laughing...I though dh might sneek out he was so embarrassed.

That's the best story yet!

We always sneak food into the theaters. One time, my friend and I popped our own popcorn at home and put it in a giant ziploc bag. When we realized that neither one of us had a big enough purse, I ended up putting it under my shirt, zipped my coat up, and pretended to be pregnant.

:lmao:

Kari has specific pants for just this occasion. She has really baggy army cargo pants and the pockets on the sides are fully strectched out. She can fit about 4 cans of sodas, bags of chips, and other assorted candies.
We usually bring a drink each, and candies and get popcorn at the theater. It's that evil smell that's so tempting. But on Tuesday the regal theater by us has a special deal for the "club members". Or if we see anything at AMC we get discounts through Disney. If it's not one of those two theaters, we won't buy anything.

I used to sneak in candy years ago. But in the past few years I don't take anything in. Most of the time I just buy a drink. One of the theaters in my area has a two large drinks and large popcorn deal that only cost $8.50. Usually if I go with my boyfriend or friend we buy that beverage/popcorn deal. I have noticed that Icee beverages are usually cheaper than soft drinks at theaters and sometimes nachos are cheaper than popcorn at theaters.

I agree with the previous poster who used to work at a theater. I worked at one too for several years, and let me tell you, the employees really could care less (just don't let the managers see, some of them care).

The only thing that ever bugged us was when people would bring a lot of outside food and then leave all the trash everywhere (I'm thinking of like a bag full of individually wrapped candy and every wrapper would end up on the floor individually). Actually...it probably bugged us just as much when people did that with popcorn too, so I am not really sure what the point of this paragraph was.
