of being a Disney Drill Sergeant??? Just got back on Sunday and DH had to leave for a business trip Tuesday morning. He apparently told his co-workers he was glad to get back to work for the relaxation!!!!! :rolleyes1

On our last Disney trip, I was up and ready to go by 7:30. While trying to get DH up, I hear him moan from the bed, "This is supposed to be a vacation, not torture." :rotfl2: To which I answered, If you wanted to relax, you should have gone somewhere else!!!

Yes I've been accused.

From one Sergeant to another, I salute you! :thumbsup2

LOL!

Not exactly a drill sergeant....but DH and his friends are all athletes (mountain biking, ultimate, etc.) and I am sooooooo NOT an athlete. However, several of them went on our last WDW trip with us and they could not keep up with me walking the parks!

Yes, but I'm reformed. This last trip, I made NO itinerary, NO Adr's, nothing. Didn't even schedule which clothes which day, just stuffed a bunch in the suitcases.

We let our daughters, 5 & 7, decide where to go and when, with everything.

It was one of the best disney vacations we've ever had; there was a huge weight lifted from my shoulders when I didn't have to make ANY of the decisions!

Nah, I'm way too laid back for that. My DH has a heart condition and DS11 has limited mobility--Flexible is my middle name :goodvibes We get up at a reasonable time, no matter the EMH, go where we want to go, stay as long as we can(usually about 4hrs), return to our room and nap for 2hrs, eat a snack at the food court, take a walk somewhere, sit by the pool, etc. We plan one ADR a day, usually to conicide with the end of our stay at the park-of-the-day. I'm sure other people would find our trip boring, but it's the best we can do and we actually do find it relaxing.

cathy--life in the slow lane :surfweb:

I am a Vacation Drill Sergeant for sure. I can't help myself. I always say I will take it slow and not stress out trying to do everything on schedule but I just can't. My DH hates to get up early but you can get so much more done if you get up early. Good thing he loves me!!! I have noticed though that some of the most memorable things happen when you least expect it . :goodvibes

That was really my DH's gripe too: getting up early. I say he can sleep when he's dead. If he keeps griping I may bring a bugle next trip (I think it would go great with the WL theming)! :teeth: Anyone know how to play reveille? :rotfl: ;)

Hey if I'm going to be accused, I might as well have fun with it.

No, but my DSis told me I was a General planning and attack on a fortified enemy position and I made her feel like the poor luitenant having to carry out my orders. :rotfl2:

So I guess I outrank all of you.

BTW, this was a visit on Friday of Thanksgiving weekend and by late afternoon she was thanking me profusely. I guess we anhilated the enemy. :lmao:

I like the bugle idea a lot :thumbsup2

NO but I have accused my husband of being one.
Really, when my first son was only 4 he wore that child out so badly would not even let him get a carriage. I remember one night we went to the late show of the Hoopty Doo Review.(after a full day of Disney beginning at 7am)..got out at something like midnight or 1 am. The poor kid was so tired my husband carried him to the bus and then to the room. He put him down on the bed and my child NEVER MOVED the whole night..could not even undress him. I slept with my hand on his chest just to be sure he was breathing!! It just goes on and on . That was 17 years ago and it has gotten slightly better.

I am really worried this year...I had foot surgery last Friday and the doctor told me it should be okay for our trip on July 29th..well okay is just not good enough for Sargent Psycho. I can picture myself either being left behind OR being dragged like a dead seal b/c I cannot keep up with him and my son. That is my younger son...the older one will not come with us anymore. Partly b/c he is 22 and most likely b/c he and his gf like to go places where you do NOTHING on a vacation. I wonder why that is???

Thanks for the laugh! No wonder your oldest son wants to relax on vacation. :rotfl2: Poor kid probably still has nightmares.

We are the more relaxed and enjoy type of vacationers, whether its WDW or anywhere else. I've never quite understood the whole having to see everything type of vacation and all in one day (or trip) to boot.

Yes, My father's comment every time I suggest doing anything...."this is not a forced march" whatever that means. :confused3

I am a recovering commando tourist. There have been many trips where I was the drill sgt to DW and DD's. I actually have some remorse about that,
I think it was kinda mean(though we did have some fun along the way). We had dozens of trips before I finally took a chill pill.:earsboy:

Luckily on my trip a few weeks ago, my mom was the same as me. It was my dad who had the trouble getting out of bed. It was good having a co-pilot! :goodvibes

I've considered going "commando" (PLANNING-WISE, PEOPLE ;) ) our next Disney vacation in hopes of things being less stressful. Last trip was just DH and I. I booked that November vacation in January and planned, planned, planned the entire time up until the trip with no help from DH. I was worn out by the time November came around. This trip the kiddos are going with us for their first Disney trip. I'm so tempted to planning nothing and throw caution to the wind. Glad to hear it works for some.

Before anyone feels too sorry for my long-suffering DH. Poor guy - boot camp on vacation. I truly don't think I'm a commando.

Let me clarify, we took afternoon breaks to swim/nap. I got up early and got completely ready, then woke Grumpy and proceeded to get both the kids ready while he got ready. He was never up before 7 am on even our earliest days.

Old Grump-meister also complained about the amount of luggage. Apparently "whole families crossed the prairie in covered wagons with less baggage than I take for a week at Disney". :rolleyes1 I just don't know how I married such a wimp. Family vacations are not for the faint of heart! :teeth:

I am doing the planning for our group of 11, leaving in 10 days. I may have to be the DS. We have never gone in June and never had this many people. My DH is the early riser, I am more of a night person, he likes to see and do as much as he can. I'm just not sure about the rest of the group. I do think I am stressing just a bit.
