Have you been taped w/o your knowledge?

LOL...no, not quite. As demonstrated above, this is nothing new.

Who knows if it's new or not...however, the Supreme Court most certainly has not said that it is okay for the US government to collect data on US citizens on US soil without probable cause.

LOL. Considering the OP was about the program and not this administration, Galahad's posts didn't take the wind out of any sails either. LOL.

It is not a case of "Clinton did it too". It is a case of "be sure you hate the practice intrinsically rather than because of who's name is currently attached to it".

Thanks so much for the enlightenment. That never occurred to me before.

You may deny it all you want, but the fact is there has never been as much power concentrated in this White House as it is now. Their supporters claim *everything* they're doing is legal and for our own good, yet you have NO IDEA what they are doing, so the claim of legality is simply wishful thinking.

An investigation in the NSA wiretapping program has been shut down because they cannot get access. You're perfectly comfortable blindly trusting your government (regardless of who is in charge) to do the right thing when they have nearly absolute power? I personally think that goes against the values this country was founded on.

It must be a nice feeling to believe your government is looking out for you and not the business and political interests of their close friends and families. In some ways I truly envy you that.

And it must be sad to be that paranoid all the time. :)

Nobody is blindly trusting the government. We're talking about ONE specific issue. Do you care if Verizon, who keeps the records anyway, lets the government scan the numbers for possible calls to possible terrorists? I say no, I don't care. If it's good enough for Verizon to look at, it's good enough for the government to look at, too.

Because I don't blindly trust other people to look after my interests I'm paranoid? Ooookkkkayyyy. I knew if I posted enough times I'd get the "tin foil hat" tossed my way.

:lmao:

Sure they do. They have essentially said that collecting data is not unreasonable search. Collecting all of this data is in order to find probably cause.

The OP was a misunderstanding about what the program was about. Subsequent posts centered very much on the evils of the current administration in collecting the information. I'm not particularly concerned for how much wind is in your sails, but I think it was relevant to note that the current administration did not invent data mining or the current practice.

Well, er, you're welcome I suppose. I can be skeptical of my government without being cynical and hyped on conspiracy theories. The notion that the government has "nearly absolute" power is hyperbole at best.

Well, if you really want to know what everyone is talking about why bother secretly recording anything. All they need to do is plop their butts in any Mall, rest. grocery store, movies, etc. and listen to all the cell phone users. Most don't seem to care who is listening to them. I have unfortunately been privy to all kinds of things I really didn't need to hear!

LOL!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: You got THAT right!

Well if there is indeed someone listening to my phone conversations I feel very sorry for them. Because that means they've heard the non-stop bickering between my ex-boyfriend and I  Not to mention some really ridiculously un-intelligent conversations my best friend and I have at 3 in the morning when there's nothing better to do ;)

But you, on the other hand, have *perfect* understanding of the federal government's secret spying program(s)? You know what they are and are not doing because. . .? They SAY so?

:confused3
