I have one from 1988 that still works -I think I only replaced the battery once - the face is so scratched that you can't read it.

Yeah....they ARE expensive! Especially when ya gotta gang o'******* kids that ya gotta haul along!!! But Im gonna try to make it happen one of these years!!

I think what sealed it for us to take the plunge was reading the trip report from TCD. I'm hoping to take the kids some day, but it's way beyond our reach for the whole family right now.
