Hi,
I am in the unfortunate position of not being able to utilize 50 PTS that expire in April . Put a thread on trade board. I have never done this before. I am assuming I would not make the call to transfer points till I have the cash in hand... Ie PayPal or cashes check. What have u done ?
Thanks
Kerri

Have used both but prefer check to avoid PayPal fees

If they expire I'm guessing that they are banked points (otherwise you could bank them). Banked points can't be transferred.

I've done it through PayPal. Yes, you pay a fee, but you get the $ instantly and everything can be done in less than an hour. There is a good deal of risk on both sides, so some buyers may prefer to pay 50% before transfer and 50% after transfer. As a seller, I prefer to get the payment up front. If a buyer isn't OK with that, I move on to the next buyer. Remember, they are your points and there are usually many more buyers than sellers.

I have transferred points to another member with no problems.
I have always talked to the person first made the arrangements
and the money has always been transfered to me I have never experienced
any problem.

I did it once via paypal. The person freaked out because he sent the money at night and I did not see it right away. So when I did not have the points tsfrd first thing in the morning they freaked out and reported me to Paypal. Everything worked out in the end but there has to be trust on both sides.

I have gotten burned on this issue, so whatever method you use make sure you get the money first!

I bought points from a friend and they were transferred to me and I paid her later. Of course, she was a friend and didnt charge me much. She said I could mail her a check whenever I had the money....which was within the week. But, the biggest part of this is trust. If you were not sure, I would ask for the money and to see the check clear first.

Banked points cannot be transferred.

I've done two transfer-of-points transactions...both times I was getting the points transferred into my account.

The first one was with an internet friend from whom I'd rented a reservation previously. I offered to send the money first; he said no, he trusts me and we went ahead and did the transfer the same day I wrote the check and put it into the mail to him. Of course, my check took 2 days (as I recall) to reach him, and then another 3 (I think) to clear...but I knew the money was "there" and he trusted me, so it all went very very smoothly.

The second time was with a stranger. We called each other (I forget who called who; we swapped phone numbers via email) and chatted a while. Decided we were comfortable with each other. Again, I offered to send the money first (and wait for the check to clear) and while he said that wasn't necessary, I wasn't in a hurry for the points and we had logistical issues (took a few days to find a time when we were both available when MS was open)...so he wound up getting the money from me before I got the points. But the key was we talked to each other enough ahead of time to reach an agreement that was comfortable for both of us. That transaction also went very, very smoothly.

I can't think of a way where one party doesn't have to go first. Once the points are transferred, the transaction is final and once the transferror has the money there's nothing the transferee can do (short of legal action that might or might not work out) to get the money back...

So, I think the key in points transfers, even more than in rentals, is to talk to each other enough to gain some degree of comfort and trust...

Personally, I refuse to do PayPal. Hate them with a purple passion. If a party I want to deal with insists on using PayPal, I won't deal with them. Checks work just fine so long as both parties are willing to deal with the mail and check clearance times...

Good luck!

We just had points transferred from my a former coworker of my husband and he did the transfer before we paid. I did send out a cashier check that same day.

FYI...I kept checking my online account to see where the points were so I could book our room and nothing was showing up. Called MS and they said transferred point won't show up on the computer.

So I learned something new about DVC:rolleyes:

Speaking only from the receiving end, I've bought transfer points 4 times now. 3 times paid though Paypal and once I just sent a personal check as the DVC owner requested. The most important part is to feel secure on both sides that you are dealing with a reputable owner.
