I hope that everyone is having a great start to summer camping! It looks like again we will have to cancel our reservation for early October. As many of you who read my posts before, this freaking truck that we got severely hosed on is still in the shop. This will be the second month we don't have it.We have put all of our savings into the truck and literally have nothing left. So its been a little sucko, because we cant even take the camper anywhere at all. At this point I am really missing the pop up, because at least we would be able to tow it with the van. WE are looking at possibly digging out or tent and maybe trying that but with DS being two not sure how that will go over.

So hopefully we will plan on next may, I guess until then I will have to live through all of you and your wonderful trips! Hope you all have a magical day!

Car problems are so stressful- especially when it's a vehicle you just bought.

I just had my transmission replaced. I didn't feel comfortable with the first garage's lack of confidence with Nissan vehicles. So, a second garage gave me an appointment a week ahead of time to drop off my vehicle (& the parts store deliveved the replacement transmission the same day). When I called a week after my appointment to check on the status of my vehicle, the mechanic hadn't even looked at it. The guy on the phone said "transmissions take a while." I said "yes, I know, and you haven't even gotten started on mine even though I had an appointment!." He said, "well, yeah," kind of sheepishly. Then, when the mechanic did look at it that afternoon, the parts store had delivered the wrong transmission. It took over a month for me to get it back. I'm lucky that I live near my family and could hitch rides with them.

Well we bought it from a mom and pop dealership which I really did not want to do. When we picked it up, took it to fill the tank it had a gas leak. Guy replaced it said no problem. We went to have the truck looked over after we got it back. Our mechanic who is a family friend said it should have never passed inspection. We bought it as is so after a few bad words and couple of beers we just accepted it and moved forward. Had 1300.00 put into it which was our first trip. Drove it for awhile then had the brake controller and hitch that was another 550.00 so after two visits to the shop we though we were done. Then the rear went in the back of the truck. Its been so frustrating and awful, especially because we now have way more into it than what it will ever be worth. We live with my parents because of medical issues with me and have trouble making it as is. This completely drained us of everything and the frustrating part is we cant even take the perfectly good camper anywhere at all.

Hate to hear this for you Rland. Good luck with the truck.

Bummer news, I have been there before.

Aw, crumb! I hope the whole thing improves for you and you get back out there soon! Even some local tenting might be fun. We tented a few times when our DS was two. If you lived close I'd pass along his little aerobed with the raised sides!

Best of luck with the truck, Rland8228!

That really sucks to have bought a vehicle with so many issues you had to deal with. I am not against the mom and pop dealership, I am against the mom and pop dealership that will not work out something reasonable to have a vehicle you are about to buy from them inspected by an independant shop. Now if your guy is an hours drive away you may not be able to use their shop, but at least find an independant to look it over so you at least know what you are getting into.

I wish you the best in getting back on the road and camping. Those that remember my issues on my trip to FW last January knows that even after 2 years of owning a used vehicle some stuff can come to bite you. I knew it was going to need the work, but I did not know the truck was going to have issues when it showed none after previous tows of the trailer.

I actually took a part time job to get my money back in shape so we can enjoy the next trip.

So sorry you are still having problems with the truck and I know it sucks to have to cancel your plans, we were supposed to be heading for Acadia National Park today but due to medical bills from my wife's surgery this spring we ended up having to cancel our trip.

I think digging out the tent sounds like a great idea, we started tent camping with the boys when they were 1 and 3 and they loved it, the boys and I still sometimes leave the camper at home to do a weekend in the tent.

Hopefully you can get the truck issues solved and maybe be able to use the camper locally later this summer or fall. Praying things get better for you soon.
