I guess the good news is we will be in disney for 12 days. The bad news is, I don't have enough pants/shorts for 12 days and I'll need to do laundry.

We are staying at ASMo 9/24 - 10/5. I was thinking of doing laundry on a Saturday night after we return from AK -- so maybe around 7 or 8pm. Will I be likely to get a washer or two at that time?

How big are the washers? I am used to my giant one -- will I be able to fit 6 pair of khakis in it?

How do you bring your own laundry detergent? In a ziploc, a tupperware type container? Should I order some with my wegoshop grocery order?

Thanks for the help!

I don't know how available laundry facilities are at various times, but I plan to do laundry as well during the early afternoon before MNSSHP. I will purchase a trial size of laundry detergent at Target. The tide trial size does 2 loads and is right at $1. I put everything in 2 loads (lights & darks).

Just a note for anyone not aware, if you go to MNSSHP you can enter the park at 4:00PM for the 700-midnight party without using a Disney ticket, just the special party ticket.

From a CM during a recent call for information.

I found the washers to be small, not anywhere near my home xl capacity. maybe 6 kids total outfits and few other things? I think a days worth of a family of four in one washer we needed. Including changed clothes.
Clean the lint from dryer or it will take forever. Also check the temp as delicates can melt.

I took my own deterg and dryer sheets from home. I sent through a medium but sturdy cooler and had no problems. The Cooler is a mid size, on wheels, and sturdy interior. I zip-lock plastic bagged, sample size bottles which held enough for at least three loads and the dryer sheets.

The problems of things exploding on planes is not the pressure; per se...it is the pressure of tons of weight of luggage on yours that causes the explosion.
It is far too costly to buy their cleaners.

Target has great small sizes of Lysol wipes, Tide, purex had sanitizer, beauty needs and lots of stuff for the carry all to parks.

Yep, small washers and dryers took forever. I'd allow a few hours, assuming that you don't have to wait for any machines.

Wal-Mart has little trial size All Small & Mighty that do two loads for $1.27. A little more than the Tide trials at Target, but they are less bulky. I'm bringing those to do laundry this trip, plus dryer sheets from home. The detergent there is pricey and there aren't too many choices.

Don't use the washers by the main pool, thats where everyone goes. When we went 2 yrs ago we stayed 6 nights and we didn't pack much, thinking we'd do laundry midweek. I packed the dirty things in a rolling suitcase and went to the main laundry mat, it was packed, all washers taken and people waiting with bags of clothes. I went to the laundry mat by the Mighty Ducks pool and every washe was available. I don't dry everything completely, if things are slightly damp I will take back to the room and hang on hangers, not to be cheap but I hate waiting. LOL

I too always have to do laundry since we're there for 2 weeks and since we fly I refuse to have to pay for extra baggage so I pack half the amount of clothes and then wash them.:scared:

Machines are $2.00 as well as dryers and depending on how large your dryer load is if may cost you $4.00. Split the clothes up between a couple of dryers as that helps. I have 3 men in the family and yes, I can fit 6 pairs of khakis in the machine. The machines are normal hotel size, not large capacity like mine at home but it works.

I buy detergent and softener from the dollar store and put them in my checkedin luggage so they don't think my powdered laundry could be drugs. Hey....you never know.:confused3

As far as the timing it's hard to predict but during our stay a couple of weeks ago I went around midday and had no problem getting a machine. Give yourself at least 2 hours. I did find between 4 and 5 that people started coming in. I also read one post where a woman went around midnight and she said there were alot of people.

Good thing is I did the laundry the day before we left and it was nice coming home and just putting everything away:thumbsup2

If you are ordering other stuff, I would add some detergent to your list. Less hassle. But I would just order laundry detergent. It would not be worth how much they would charge you to just have that delivered to your resort.

And I agree that the dryers do take forever. But that seems to be the case whenever you do laundry away from home. You might want to keep in mind that if you leave your stuff in the dryer and it stops, someone may take your stuff out to use the dryer. There was a post a while back on this, and people were quite adament that if you left the area and your machine stopped, they would take your stuff out. Just a friendly word of warning.:flower3:

Thanks for the advice. I was planning on bringing a book and hanging in the area. Is there a place for me to do that?

I never left my laundry unattended for that reason. During my last stay there was a man who came in and actually took the wet clothes out of one machine so he could use it because the others were taken. I told him I wouldn't do that but he didn't care and took them out and put them on the table. :rolleyes1

Matter of fact, during my 2 hours in that room doing my laundry whoever owned that never did show up so I think that was alot of nerve. I would have loved to have been there when the owner of that laundry finally did show up.

There is such a shortage of washers and dryers that I want to be there when each ends so I can promptly get my things out and get done. I don't want to be in there any longer than I have to be.

Another way to go if you have the budget is to consider travel clothes that are made to dry fast and wrinkle free (underwear and socks too). You can wash them in your sink and they’ll be dry in the morning – hence you’ll only need to bring a few. The better ones have a 30 + sun protection factor, wick moisture (good for hot days or water rides), and some even have an insect repelling feature. Ex-Officio is one of the better brands, and can usually be found on sale on-line.
Have fun.

If you have a car, do what I do. There is a wash & fold drycleaner/laundry about 5 minutes from downtown disney. I drop the laundry off in the morning and pick it up that eve or the next day. You get your clean clothes back and they are nicely folded. It is always less than $20 and that is for a full weeks worth of clothing (jeans & sweatshirts, etc) for my DH and me. It is well worth the $20 for me not to deal with laundry. We usually drop it off midway and then the day before we go home so I don't have to worry about a bunch of dirty laundry when we get home. (Our trips are usually 10 to 14day trips) We just take our empty suitcases with us the day before we leave and pack the clothing when we pick it up. It is a wonderful thing. :)

I like that idea!!!! I don't have a car, but there are plenty of taxis around!

The laundry I use is in the strip mall where Steak & Shake is. It is on Apopka-Vineland Rd. They weigh the clothing and charge so much per pound.

I've been thinking about this and it occurred to me that if I have to pay a cab to get to and from the laundry place on 2 days...it will be pretty expensive. Does ASMo have laundry service like the Poly does?

So how much do they charge per pound and what is the name of the business?

Majestic Cleaners & Laundry
12177 S Apopka Vineland Rd
Orlando, FL 32836
Phone: (407) 239-0883

I don't remember the per pound price. I am sure they will be glad to tell you if you call them.

I never have a car when we go as we fly and I use Disney transportation, however, if I did have a car I would definitely do this. How nice to just drop the clothes off and pick them up all clean and folded:banana:

I wish Disney would have this service because I'll tell you, they would make good money:thumbsup2
