Have to cancel my December trip, points in holding question

We had a trip planned for December 9th, which I now will not be able to go on since my workplace just put a ban on nonessential travel. With my points now in the holding period, would I be able to move those to the end of December, as their is availability, for my DS to use?
I never had to cancel and have points in holding so not sure how this works.

Points aren't going into holding, even when canceled within 30 days.
 
As the previous poster said, Holding has been temporarily suspended due to the coronavirus. I'd try to modify the reservation rather than cancel and rebook, just in case the computer system is still throwing points into holding and having to wait for a manual adjustment. Or you could call Member Services to change the reservation.
 
This is good to hear, although I don't even want to think about cancelling. I have a Dec. 20th reservation I am trying to add onto and when I was on the phone with MS the other day she mentioned something about I would not lose my points if I could not make my trip. I didn't ask her to elaborate because right now I just want to GO but was going to call in at day 33-32 just to hear it from someone else. Just want to go isolate myself at Disney :beach:

Back into the UY as regular points. If you are in banking period, they could be banked. If you are not, they could be used for new reservations in current UY, without the 60 day booking requirement. If they had been borrowed, they will be put back into the UY they came from by DVC. The putting back will not be immediate, but within 2 weeks.

Back to the current UY immediately, and then they will put borrowed points back manually after a few days. They always say this could end at any time but I imagine it will continue for the next few months at least.
 
Ok thanks, that's the downside. Cancelled March and October 2020, got 3 winter trips coming up. I'm sure some of those have used banked points.

If you canceled the trips using banked points after you booked the winter trips, the banked points are not automatically moved into what you have,

Double check your account to ensure any banked points you have that work for those trips are in what you have so that if you have any regular points still eligible for banking, you can free them up.

Yes, thank you. Good plan. I am a long time member and fairly high point holder but man, this is still complicated for me.

I was able to do that, now hope the February trips go.

Yes. I believe they need to be put on 45 days ahead of time but it is possible things have been updated due to Covid.

Not sure.
