Have they fixed the bird problem?

Do you people have a different kind of seagull then they do in Wisconsin? lol I don't think I've ever seen a seagull at Disney unless those blackish brownish birds hovering near food areas is in fact a seagull.

I'm with you!!! I don't think I've ever seen a seagull at WDW either?!? We see them all the time down the shore especially on the boardwalks, but they're not as aggressive as described here!!!

I have seen the cranes, I think they're pretty.

I would die if one of those birds landed on my head like another poster stated!!!

One day at the POR pool a little baby black bird took a potato chip right out of my DD's hand! That's the only WDW bird story I have!!

Well last year we where eating at Cosmic rays and some genious thought they would leave there french fries on the table after they left. Well they came swooping. And one hit my mom in the head. It was not pretty and she was extremely upset. Needless to say I am glad there where no kids out there cause there was several 4 letter words being reapeated to the birds and the moron that left them there.

Two years ago while I was at DTD there were these brown birds..crackels?
Well I had a feeling something would happen to someone with the hundreds of these in the trees. Well I was near Once Upon a Toy, and these birds came flying into the tree nearby...well before I had a chance to scramble away pow I got dumped on my head...I promptly ran to the bathroom and washed my hair in the sink, right next to another guy washing his..LOL
This past year at Universal my gf and I were walking past some pidgeons on the ground walking. Well some little kid decided to run up and chase the pidgeons. Well they flew..dumping their loads. My gf escaped..I didnt. Thank goodness I had an extra shirt in my camera bag.

We just returned today and the birds were awful this week. Well, we noticed them ---my oldest, who is 11 now had a bad experience when he was about 4. He still talks about it! He was eating his hotdog walking thru Frontierland with us down by the water. One bird swooped down and landed on his arm and another one snatched the hotdog as he dropped it. He says that we didn't believe him when he was saying the birds were getting close. We probably didn't---I wouldn't have thought that would have happened.

This time as we were eating lunch at the Poly --we ate up near the building because the CMs said the birds were so bad they did not recommend us taking it down by the pool. We were shooing them away as they came close. Another family eating nearby obviously thought we were being mean. They made it a point, after they finished their food to "feed the little ducky", "here sweet little birdy", "come here birdy birdy" and do it near us. I know they had no idea what they were doing but it made me frustrated. The birds are there because of the food! We watched another family's food get eaten right off their table, even their beverages drunk and/or spilled as they were off at the pool.

One of the CMs at MK told my son how smart the birds are. One bird will distract the guest and they will drop their food while the other will grab it. I believe it!!

WOW!!! These stories are AMAZING!!! Pretty scary, too when the birds are getting this smart!!! Is there anyway that WDW can actually "get rid of them"?!?

I was at Epcot the other day. The seagulls were pretty bad. They seem to come and go with the weather.

As for the vultures, the first time I saw them I shocked. Now, I like them. They clean up all the roadkill. No dead animals laying around for long in my area.

The same goes for ants. They clean up everything. If there is a dead bug outside, it won't be there for long. Give it a couple of hours and you wouldn't even know it had been there thanks to the ants. By the way, I wouldn't lay down outside and remain still to long in Florida. You might get taken away! Ha! Ha!

Oh so true... and most of the ants you encounter down here are of the FIRE ANT variety. Believe me, you don't want to encounter them. My husband still has scars on his legs from bites he got the beginning of October.

Oh, just an FYI.... Aveno bath takes the poison out of the fire ant bites and the itching stops almost immediately. Just put slightly warm water in the tub and add a package of Aveno, soak about 20 minutes.... works like a charm!

We fix the problem by telling everyone at WDW NOT TO FEED THE BIRDS.

I hope all of you will carry this torch with you next time you are there.

As I read this, I am honestly rethinking my trip in 2 weeks. It is really a disgusting & dangerous situation.
(It's amazing that Seaworld does not have this problem!)

Honestly, the birds aren't bad enough to keep anyone away from WDW... I mean, we certainly are not talking the movie by Alfred Hitchcock! Yes, there are many birds.... it is outside, we are in THEIR territory... people drop food and others don't help the problem by feeding them. We certainly can't expect anyone to put a net around the park's perimeter to keep them out... they are part of nature, whether we like it or not. Yes, it is a bit disgusting when the bird droppings get on places they don't belong, but that could happen walking to one's car. I wouldn't call the birds dangerous. I have NEVER seen a bird fly right at someone or ever hear of one harming someone... except maybe soiling their clothes....the worst I have seen was one that grabbed a Turkey Leg.... the person thought it was funny, told the CM and they gave him another Turkey Leg... no harm, no foul.

And yes, other Central Florida parks have the same exact problem, and it does depend on the day and the weather.

I have noticed near the McDonalds fry wagon near the start of the parade route in Frontierland that Disney does play a bird distress call now and again, and all the birds will swoop into the nearest trees. Of course they are only there until they believe the danger has passed, and the birds are so clever they will soon learn it is only a false alarm, so Disney can't use it all the time. Also, there are wires overhead at Casey's Corner where the outside tables are, at the white piano, and they are there to stop the birds from swooping down and attacking the guests. They can't put up wires at Pecos Bill's of course, because of the parade route. If they were to cull the birds there would be an uproar from the animal rights groups. The only true solution is to remove the food, and that is up to all of us. Don't feed the birds, of course, and pick up any dropped food. Make sure our garbage goes into the proper recepticles. If there is no food, the birds will move on.

I think they have wires over a lot of their eating areas in Sea World. At least they did years ago.

I honestly believe that Disney should post signs stating that "You will be ejected from the park for feeding the birds."
Until they start enforcing some type of policy to discourage stupid human behavior, the bird behavior will not change.

Oh, please, don't be so mean about the "stupid" people who feed the birds. Up until recently, I humbly confess that I was one of those "stupid" people-feeding the cute little duckys. Then I read all the horror stories here, saw the other side, and realized the error of my ways. To me, the biggest problem is how Disney not only tolerates it, but seems to encourage it. I used to save up my quarters for all the machines to feed the ducks. And there are lots of those machines still around. I was glad on my latest trip to finally see that Disney has smartened up and discontinued some of those machines. And I'll agree with more signs not to feed the birds. Boardwalk has them, but how about in the parks. I cringe when I see people feeding the birds now, but I don't think they realize what they're promoting.

I dont think a one of us is talking about the ducks. We are all refering to those frenchfry vultures known as SEAGULLS. You dont see them come running when you throw the little pebbles to the ducks.

While we were in WDW last week, the only place we saw an over abundance of seagulls was in EPCOT in the Canada area.

It would be nice if Disney put up some signs (especially in the food areas) to please not feed the birds/wildlife. Maybe if more people were aware of the situation they would think twice before feeding the seagulls.

Believe me, gulls really do not care. They will eat ANYTHING. I speak from experience. Ornothology class... Think, dissection.

I wasn't talking about "stupid people who feed ducks."
If so, I would have been talking about myself. Everytime I see the ducks, I just can help myself and put a quarter in those machines.
I was referring to people who are in a crowd, waiting for a parade, and causing a feeding frenzy. They are the ones who "teach" the gulls to be aggressive.
