Have they fixed the bird problem?

These seagulls remind me of the ones on the Ocean City boardwalk. Last summer, I thought one was going to take my 4 year old along with her sandwich. :D

I'm a birder and I THINK the birdw you're talking about are either Boat-Tailed Grackles (much larger than common grackles) or could they be American Crows?

Hi SM! I am not an active Birder, but I do it as I go along. I do have my Golden "A Guide to Field Identification, Birds of North America" right here.

I started checking off the species in the index. A sort of "life list" I guess.

We were just there in December, and while I didn't see any seagulls (thank goodness) there were Cranes everywhere! Go figure!

There were seagulls all over Tomorrowland yesterday. And believe it or not--people were feeding them !! Over by Pecos Bill's the usual Crane and crows were begging and RECEIVING ! Prior to the 3PM parade--the Ducks (Mallards) were doing their pre-parade strut---- visiting all along the parade route for some treats. They were actually eating out of peoples hands !

Looks like EVERYONE enjoys a day at DINSEY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We just got back :guilty: and the seagulls were terrible in the magic kingdom. My sister almost got whacked in the face but luckily ducked right in time! My fiance got hit by one as it flew by to land on a woman's tray who was walking in front of us and she dropped her soda :(

Unfortunately until food stops being dropped on the pavement and people stop feeding the wildlife (not just the birds), the lovely addition of the beautiful creatures known as seagulls will remain!

We'll be there next week, I'm sure my dopey MIL will be feeding them.

I was there last week and yah it's still a problem. In particular in tomorrowland. I kept sitting there worrying about being pooped on. Then over by the McDonald fry stand in Frontierland it was also really bad. Some kid standing right next to me got pooped on and his parents were pretty ticked about it ruining his shirt as would I be.

How about the birds at POFQ when they are mating? I have been dive bombed and scratched in the face before (not meaning to scare anyone!)

A coworker was at DL last year, and his MIL was asked to do one of those surveys. While she was talking to the surveyor, she saw a large cousin of Mickey's running past and screamed. She said that she saw a R.. and the surveyor kept saying 'no you didn't', 'no you didn't' several times! (Sadly, the ferel (sp?) cats don't live at the DLH anymore and hence the problem, me thinks)

I thought of that story as I was leaving Epcot one night in December and saw another relative of Mickey's scamper by....

What's amazing is the parks had the seagull problem solved and there wasn't a single gull to be seen. When they had the Premire of Finding Nemo at the theatre in DTD, they released 50,000 to commemerate the event. They decided that they were a good tie in with the movie, the Seagull t-shirts were moving at World of Disney, so the Disney suits decided to let them stay! :D "Mine...Mine...Mine...Mine..."

I kinda thought they were vultures. Don't think turkey vultures though. Saw one of those in my back yard a few years ago. A huge bird!!! But, yes, I guess what we saw were vultures. Eewwww. Like I said, scary looking guys.

One place to avoid sitting for a parade in FrontierLand is on the stone wall in front of that restuarant towards the end of the street by Splash Mt. Can't recall the name now. But the birds just sit in the trees and make a huge mess. It's almost entertaining to watch people sitting there. I did one year and learned the hard way. Now when I walk by I tell those waiting for the parade what 'could' happen. They just shrug. Ah well.

I just remembered a funny story from one of my last trips. I was in Mouse Gear in Epcot when a squirrel ran by. I watched some kids chase it into a fitting room. I went and told a CM, who looked at me like I was crazy. He believed me when he opened the door.

I have seen one of those gulls actually take an entire Turkey leg out of someone's hand and fly off with it. If that happens, let a castmember know!

Must be part of the construction crew. (insert rimshot here)

Thank you, I'll be here all week.

I was at Epcot the other day. The seagulls were pretty bad. They seem to come and go with the weather.

As for the vultures, the first time I saw them I shocked. Now, I like them. They clean up all the roadkill. No dead animals laying around for long in my area.

The same goes for ants. They clean up everything. If there is a dead bug outside, it won't be there for long. Give it a couple of hours and you wouldn't even know it had been there thanks to the ants. By the way, I wouldn't lay down outside and remain still to long in Florida. You might get taken away! Ha! Ha!

We noticed the bird problem in December also. My husband noticed a mysterious stain on his shirt that we decided was probably an unwanted souvenir from one of these birds. They were particularly bad near Frontierland. I made a comment to one of the Tom Sawyer Island Cast Members that I may need to borrow his straw hat because of the birds. He said that was the exact reason why he was wearing one.
I was waiting for half of the family to finish riding BTMR, so the sleeping baby and I went to get french fries for a snack. While I was walking to find a table a bird flew down and grabbed some fries off my tray. It startled me so badly that I squealed. Several people, including myself, got a big laugh out of my reaction  We had a great trip anyway. I was wondering when someone was going to post about this.

I was there yesterday and narrowly missed a plop right on my forehead. They are definitely a nuisance.
