This past Monday, Jan 27, we joined the Studios bus stop at the Wilderness Lodge at 6:05 am. At that point, the line up for the Studios bus went almost back to the building. The bus arrived at 6:15 - just like promised - 45 minutes before the park opens. We were about 12 people (and two strollers) from the doors, and the driver promised he’d be back.
So very happily, 3 minutes later a Magic Kingdom bus pulled (for which, not a soul waited) and the driver came out, asked if we all wanted to go to the Studios. Big cheer goes up, and he changes his marquee to read, Hollywood Studios. (Pixie dust, sprinkled by a kind driver!)
We got to HS at 6:45, lots of cars/taxis dropping off, crowds at all security posts to check bags (20 people deep), followed by similarly long lines to get through ticket scanners (they forwent the finger scan on that morning, in our line) and we made it into the park at 6:55 am.
It was a curious, almost surreal situation, in that sun-just-rising half light, to look around at the hundreds of people within eyeshot, and see every person staring at someone’s phone screen, then a horn sounds and it’s announced the park is open. After that, little cheers go up from groups. One lady, whose husband had boomed out they were in Boarding Group 6 (!) came over as I just kept pressing the “join” button. She said to restart my phone - fast. So I did. We got BG 114 (a stand-by group), at 7:04 am. And we were called for the actual ride at about 4:30 that afternoon.
If I were to do this again (which will not be happening as arising at 5:15 am is too-o-o early for a vacation day), I would restart my phone, and launch my
MDE fresh at 6:58 or 6:59 am. Hope my experience helps!
