Is this the rate to buy US at the banks? I seemed to only be able to get 1.1556. :confused3

I purchased some US at the Bank of Montreal last Thursday and the rate was 1.174. Is there somewhere I could buy US at a better rate?

Hiya,

I bought mine for this March at TD last week when I was doing my rrsp stuff..I think we bought at 1.168. A heck of a lot better than the 1.40 I paid the first time we went! :) Now it's in cash in my freezer under a pizza box waiting for next Friday!

According to the Globe and Mail, the dollar is suppose to get even stronger! Couldn't be better timing since we go at the end of April! The first time we went in 2001, the dollar was at 67 cents or something crazy like that. Loving it!

No the banks charge a surcharge of 2 cents on the dollar, the amount listed is the trading rate, but my sister works at a bank so she gets me the actual trading rate, which is nice. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the reply. I can't believe I actual care about 2 cents! But when it comes to exchange rates, every little bit counts. :thumbsup2

I love when our dollar is so strong. I love to shop in Buffalo / Niagara Falls. They seem to have so much more selection than here. (Sizes, styles etc.) We always hit the Prime Outlet mall in NF, NY. Great outlet. Anyone else from Southern Ontario cross boarder shop? :scratchin

Thanks for the heads up!! :thumbsup2

Maybe I will go buy some. In wishful thinking planning mode!!
:teeth:

Great I have another $150 in change to switch to US$$!!!

The only time we cross border shop is when we go to Disney otherwise we shop at home and support the Canadian stores we haven't really found much over in the US that stands out compared to what we can get here honestly. I just exchanged some money today and it is sitting at almost 12 cents now mind you I am getting the employee rate.

I love to cross border shop, am leaving on Friday till Sunday for a little family getaway. Have a list of things I need. New winter coats for my kids. Last time, we got winter coats at this time at the Gap for $30.00 and with this exchange rate its even better.
We hit all the flea markets cuz they are great!
Will of course hit the Disney store at the Galleria so I can get a freakin catalogue :crazy2:

Tinkerjane where are the Flea Markets that you go to across the border? :)
We're thinking of heading across too as when we flew into Buffalo on the 13th from MCO we hit a blizzard and we never got to shop around....we just headed straight for the border. :sunny:

Hey, on a $10,000 vacation, that 2 cents will save you $200!!!!

Like you said, EVERY little bit counts!!

($200 buys alot of churros, souveneirs, and photos!!) :woohoo:

Sammi,
we go to the Walden flea market which is close to the Galleria mall and the Clarence antique market which is indoors right now but in the spring and summer it is both indoors and outdoors and is great. There are always tons of dealers set up.

Thanks Tinkerjane.....we'll have to check it out! We love browsing through the flea markets in Kissimmee so this will have to be our "fix" until we go back to Florida in October. :thumbsup2

I hear ya! We love the Osceola flea market in Florida but it will be 3 years on May since we last went, am still trying to get enough together to go in April. I am suffering from major withdrawl. We had to cancel our last trip 3 days before we were leaving for my 40th birthday due to the hurricanes :(
I need to go back!! In the meantime, I love going to Buffalo too especially now that the dollar is so low.

Just paid today at Scotiabank 1.15 even. Bought half of what we want to take with us for our trip in May. :cool1: Hoping it may even go higher and I will snag some more!!!!!!

Rob (Snowwhite's DH)

I converted 150 today at a rate of 88.40 so just a touch over $1.12/1.00 the dollar is up from 88.07 close yesterday.

I bought US last night-paid 1.14 at RBC
