Well i have spent many weeks debating whether to go to WDW for 3 or 4 weeks during 6 week hols next year or xmas 07 for 10 nights!!
Well i have booked....the MALDIVES!!! for 1 week in August next year. :sunny:
Not what we planned but brother & SIL are going for their wedding aniversary & asked us to go - without the kids!! It will be the first time we have left the country without DD (will be almost 13 when we go). I have wanted to visit the Maldives all my life, but i am feeling a little sad & guilty about not booking WDW.
Sooo now i am thinking should we still do WDW xmas 10 nights & try to find a cheapy (& is it possible to get a cheapy at xmas!!) or wait till summer 2008????
HELP!!!

The Maldives are beautiful, we went in 2004 to Veligandu. You will be there in the rainy season but it doesn't usually rain all day and it is beautifully warm all year round. If there's anything you want to know - just ask.

BUGS - that is what i'm worried about, especially spiders, i've been told they spray the island every evening, we are staying on bandos island. any info would be great
thanks Tracey

We didn't see any spiders but there were hundreds of crabs - loads climbed up out of the lagoon and up the steps of our water bungalow onto the deck! There were also huge cockroaches on the sand among the trees - sorry!

I hate bugs too but it was so lovely I would have put up with anything. I just think you'll find a week not long enough - any way you can extend it?

Flights to Orlando are pretty expensive in December once the schools have broken up. If you can fly out a few days earlier it will be a lot cheaper :)

If it were me I would go for 2008 for the 3 or 4 weeks :teeth: - you would have a FAB time and get to see a lot more in a more relaxed state, Christmas is a very busy time and I don't think you will fit everything in that you want to see without getting a bit frazzled. We did a 3 weeker last trip and it was great as we didn't need to rush around or worry about getting to the parks later as we knew we had the extra time.

Have a great time on your trip to the Maldives - I must admit it's somewhere that I have always wanted to visit as well. :)

Thanks for the info & advice everyone :)
Gilld - I HATE cockroaches, oh well its booked now so i will just have to take lots of sprays & stuff, i will be like a walking pharmacy!!
Still undecided what to do about WDW, if i can wangle 15% off Virgin i would be tempted to do xmas think we could do 7 nights POP & 3 nights Royal Pacific then.
T16GEM - we did 4 weeks in Nov 2004 & are doing 3 weeks Oct this year, it really does make a difference & i dont get home sick at all!! It doesnt cost much to add extra weeks either, i now work in a school though so summer hols are the only time we can get to do more than 2 weeks (they honoured this years trip as it was already booked)
I am trying to way up the pros & cons
summer:
pros - get to go longer
cons - very hot (not been this time of year before), busy??, hurricanes.
Xmas
pros - decorations, xmas parades & shows, cheaper than summer (going to fly boxing day if we go)
cons - cant stay as long, busy, weather could be cold

Can anyone else out there think of any other pros or cons???

If you're staying in a water bungalow you won't get any creepy crawlies - we only got crabs - hundreds of them!! If you're in a beach bungalow then you may get some cockroaches so take plenty of spray. It's still worth it though, it's the most beautiful place we've been and the diving and snorkelling were amazing.

On the beach i'm afraid!!! I've been told spiders are worse if you have outside shower & we dont so thats good news lol

Shame, the outside bathrooms are fab. We had an open air one with a slatted floor so we could see the sea underneath ( rather like a pier) and a window at bath level so we could sit in the bath and watch the sharks and Manta rays swim by - magical.

I think for the Disney trip I would wait and do longer, it will also be less crowded then as well.

I have always wanted to do the Maldives as well, hope you have a wonderful time.

Looks like summer hols is getting the vote at the moment then!
Just dont know if i can wait that long!!! when do summer 2008 come out :)
The ideal thing would be to be able to go at xmas AND summer hols :)
Dont think DF would go for that!!!
