Have AP Room-rate, Can I Buy $40/day Dining Plan?

Thought the dining plan was only included in a package (along with buying park tix), but then read on another thread that you can add dining to a room-only AP reservation. Is this true?? Do I just buy a 1-day ticket?

And if it is true, does everyone staying in the room have to also be on the same meal plan? DD and DS are 10 and spending $40*2 per day times 6 nights = way too much $$ for what our little counter-eating lightweights like, but DH and I would be interested.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGEABLE HELP!!!:wizard:

yes you can buy just the dining plan; however, when you do so, you move from a room only (payable 5 or 6 days prior to arrival) to a package rate (payable 45 days prior to arrival).

Yes, EVERYONE in the room has to be on the meal plan. So if there are 4 adults, you'd have to pay the $39.90 (I think that's the price) x 4 ppl for each & every day.

There is one other thing you can consider: with the AP you can buy the DDE ($60 for 1st person; $25 for add'l) which allows you 20% off most major restaurants in the World.

What about having to buy park tickets? Do they require everyone to buy at least a 1-day ticket - I'd thought so, but then someone else's post mentioned not so, or so I thought?
Also thank you for DDE info. Thought for $60 it was good for whole family, not just holder, and it was good for 20% off (but not tip), so glad you mentioned that I was mistaken.

Thank you. :)

Yes, AP holders can now buy the dining plan without a package :cool1: It's still the same DDP, Children 9 and under are $9.99 and Adults 10 & up are $38 or $39 (I always round it to $40 in my head, so I never remember the exact price)

As the PP mentioned, you may want to consider the DDE card since you have AP's. DDE card is $60 (or$65) and gets you 20% off most TS restaurants for up to 10 people in the party. It's also good at a few CS locations and is good for alcholic beverages :goodvibes There is an automatic 18% gratuity added to your bill. It's good for 1 year and can be purchased ahead of time or you can now get it at Guest Relations at the parks or DTD.

DDP isn't a great fit for my family. My DS11 (was actually 10) on our last trip, we tried DDP. We used his "adult" TS credits for ourselves and paid OOP for kid meals for him --using the DDE card for his meal :) It was a lot of work that way. Once he really starts to eat like a teenage boy, I'm sure it'll be worth trying the DDP again, until then we'll stick with the DDE card.

Thank you, that sounds just like our family -- except we have DS10.5 and DD10.5, but like yours, ours would be eating off the kids menus. Sounds like a pass on DDP, now need to look into DDE.
