Have any DVC folks ever stayed at North Myrtle Beach??

If you are looking for a "quiet beach" area, try crossing the border into North Carolina and check out a little island called ocean isle beach, about 8-10 miles north of Cherry Grove Beach. We spent a week here two years ago doing a little beach-bumming and golfing in the north myrtle beach/calabash nc area and really enjoyed it. Although we drove to Myrtle Beach to do the tourist stuff, we really could have stayed at ocean isle beach all week. (Ok, except for golfing!) Not much on the island, but that was the charm of the place. There are a few restaurants on the island and across the causeway on the mainland, or maybe 15-20 minutes to the calabash seafood restaurants. There are a few other tourist shops on the island and a go-cart track right over the causeway on the mainland, but really not a lot more there. But again, that’s what we were looking for, and for us, we really found what we were looking for.

Geographically, you are 30-60 minutes from most of the Myrtle Beach attractions, less than 60 minutes to the USS North Carolina Battleship up in Wilmington, NC, and around 7 to 71/2 hours from DC.

Thanks for this information. Good to know. :thumbsup2

My two cents:

We have been to MB a number of times in the past 15 years, not every year, but every other year to two years. While there are wayyyy too many places to stay, we have settled on the same place the last couple of trips. It is called the Beach Cove and there are many reasons that we like this place. First it is right on the beach and has a TON of pools, a lazy river and an indoor pool. It has two big towers that range from a studio to a two bedroom unit with a full kitchen and laundry facilities that can sleep your family fine. There is a master bedroom with queen or king i can't remember which. A second bedroom with two beds and a fold out couch. Plenty of room and since we stayed in the 2BR we know for a fact they are oceanfront. They also have 3BR units as well. Not oceanview or some lame excuse for a view. No full blown oceanfront.

As for the price, it of course depends on the time of year, but if you go at the right time you can get AAA discounts and their website has specials and discounts as well. The only minus and it is a very small one is the parking. There is a garage but it has a low clearance so if you have an SUV it might be ok, but it is very looooowww clearance. Also the garage is near the tower that does not have the 2BR units so you would probably park in the open lot right across the street from the tower but we had no problems whil we were there. It is unpaved so your car will get dusty.

The location if really good. Besides on the beach it is right down the street from Barefoot Landing. You could almost walk there but with 5 kids you might not want to do that. It is 10 min. from the Super Wal mart and about the same from the other supermarkets as well. If you are familiar with North MB and you see their location on their website you might understand better.

Hope this helps! Enjoy!
