Nothing can prepare you for WDW. There is so much variety, and honestly there is plenty for everyone. I was excited the first time, but also kept thinking about how much money I had spent and occasionally wondered if it would live up to my expectations. Well when we arrived I found myself helplessly immersed in the atmosphere and surroundings. Completely overwhelmed, but in a very good way. Don't hold yourself responsible for someone else's enjoyment of a trip - especially an adult. It puts unnecessary pressure on both of you and stops you from just allowing yourself to be swept away. :) Experience everything you want to, try anything you are not sure of and make your own decisions. If any of you don't like something you don't have to do it again, but if you love it, you would have missed out. You wont all love or hate exactly the same things. Accept that. It makes it easier to compromise with a good attitude.

And my golden rule with a young child (although this would go for anyone) is know when to call time out. If bodies get tired and hot, sensory overload proves too much and tempers start edging towards irritated levels, STOP. Dont get into a big discussion. Don't give too many options, but dont blurt out something like "That's it, we're going back to the resort". I find it useful to tell my DD at the first signs that the wheels are coming off something like, "You know what? I'm also tired. Lets find somewhere cool to have a drink and a rest and decide what to do from here." Most of the time the rest and change of pace and surroundings does the trick. Sometimes you need to go back to your resort for a swim and a break. It goes for adults as well as kids - I have even used this for my own benefit.
