My wife remembers reading a post about Pirates of the Caribbean being haunted by the creator of the ride...if the CM's don't say goodnight or something like that at the close of the ride, the ride will malfunction....anybody heard anything like this....also that the Haunted Mansion ride really is haunted.....

:scared: Actually, it was a little blurb in Disney ads a little while back. They {Disney} say that the workers have to replace the "dust" every night because the in house "ghosts" seem to be removing it on a regular basis. Anyway, that's the one thing i remmember on that subject.

I think the POTC story revolves around a pre-opening construction worker who died accidentally named George. Apparently "George" is a little mischevious and if they(CM's on POTC) don't say good morning and good night to him the ride breaks down all day.

Thats what I heard. George was a worker that was crushed and killed while the ride was being built. They say that if you say George is not real while on the ride it will break down. Last time I was there, as soon as our boat pulled away from the dock I said "George is not real" twice, just for fun. Well, the ride did get backed up right before the jail set, but that always happens anyway.

There's also a story that a teenaged girl climbed on top of her car during the ride and was killed. Don't know if it's true, let alone whether she still "hangs around."

I heard the same story about George ( a construction worker or cast member) who tends to control the ride functions. Never experienced that kind of problem but on our last visit in May we were in the section of POTC were the village has just started to burn and when we got close to the bridge in that section we saw what looked to be two people running acrossed it and they were not wearing POTC CM gear :earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

Don't be upset if you see people other then those dressed in pirate costumes in POTC. Many times, we have seen workers roaming around in that ride. On our last trip, we saw 2 guys with tool belts on one of the higher balconies pointing down to something on the ride. We asked CMs after exiting about it on several other occasions, and they said that there are always work crews roaming around the ride while it is in motion, keeping an eye out for problems. Sorry to burst your ghost bubble. :D

PS: they are actually supposed to stay out of sight, but that does not always work.

Hubby and I heard about George (construction worker). So DH asked the cm's working the Pirates of the Carribean Ride about him. They indicated that they have to say "Good Night George" each night or the next day the ride has all kinds of problems. DH asked the CM if there was any night where they forgot to say good night George and the ride did in fact have problems. The CM shook his head and said oh yes.

Every time we ride Pirates of the Carribean DH has to yell out for George. He drives me nuts when he does this. If we ever break down and any of you are with us you have my permission to throw him in.

Like many beliefs, the existence of these can not be proven. A lot of this relies on faith and on personal experience. I don't know what the truth is and I prefer to remain that way.

if you rely on faith and personal experience I guarantee that the truth in regard these matters will continue to "remain that way" for you...Fortunately TRUTH transcends your and my preferences, your and my personal experience and your and my faith...the TRUTH is truth. Facts are facts...Reality is.

when someone claims, "if the CM's don't say goodnight or something like that at the close of the ride, the ride will malfunction" this is a real world -testable cause and effect claim...it is either true or false...that means it most certainly can be proven regardless if this reality does not comform to someone's needs, desires, hopes or wishes.

If the CM does not say "say goodnight or something like that at the close of the ride" and the ride does NOT malfunction any differently than any other day then this statement is proven FALSE. If everytime they do not "say goodnight or something like that at the close of the ride" it does indeed malfunction MORE than the usual on the days that they do "say goodnight or something like that at the close of the ride" then it is proven true. Ideally the people determining whether or not the ride is malfunctioning more or less will be BLINDED as to whether the appropriate good night was given or not...that is the best way to get to the truth and reduce the biases of those that prefer the answer come out a particular way-one way or the other.

I value truth-- and there are ways to come to know it...it is our best hope of understanding and acting appropriately in this very real world in which we live. Perpetuating Falsehoods like this - or claiming they are not even testable--is at best a waste of time and potentially far more harmful in the ramifications it has on how people conduct themselves in the REAL TRUE WORLD --the world that actually can pass the truth test. :3dglasses

It is the 21st not the 12th century...we have a way to understand these things...lets use it...

Comeon. Believing in the supernatural is harmless.

If I've learned nothing else, I've learned that it is unwise to scoff at those who have had experiences that I haven't shared in. I'm not saying that the ride operators have to say goodnight each night or anything like that but to totally dismiss something due to lack of proof is dangerous IMO. There was a time when we believed the world was flat because we did not have proof otherwise. There were also times when we had no knowledge of atoms, genes, other solar systems, etc. Who knows what discoveries might still be waiting?

I just believe it's a bad idea to dismiss something due to lack of evidence that proves it. There is in fact also a lack of evidence disproving these things in most cases.

Wow, so philosophical! :D I like the points that imagination is fun and a belief in the supernatural is harmless.

C'mon we are all posting on the Just for fun board under Disney Rumors. I think you might be taking yourself a bit too seriously PKS44. So what if it's just an urban legend and a myth (if it is). That's the whole fun of this board is to learn about the different stories floating around WDW and all of the superstitions etc. that go with it. It's just fun to talk about. I for one don't plan on getting serious about this anytime soon :charac2:

Thanks wendy, you hit the nail right on the head. This is "Just for fun".

This is not dismissing something due to lack of evidence...it is not accepting something for which there is NO evidence...all of the discoveries you applaud in the first paragraph came because people actually used RATIONAL SCIENTIFIC approaches to solve problems --thanks to those approaches we have a better understanding of the world around us. We know a lot about how it works now that we did not know before...but now because it suits some wish or need in somebody we are supposed to accept something that is not only without any evidence whatsoever but that if true would mean throwing out much of we do have evidence for...that is not open mindedness it is emptymindedness....this ghost story is extra-ordinary--Extra-ordinary things require extra ordinary evidence to accept them...Wisdom would suggest that you not openly except every ludicrous story that comes along just because it suits your needs or wishes...

careful - there's no evidence this is real phenomenon at all. No scientist can disprove spiritual existence despite their efforts - and there is no harm in anyone believing in ghosts.

Oh yeah, I forgot to invite everyone to join me on my next trip in May. We are meeting near the singing donkey in POC and I am bringing my wedgie board. :grouphug: I thought we might all contact George and find out how offended he is that there are certain people who do not believe in him :earseek: :earboy2: Also, while we are all down there I thought we might talk to all of the other ghosts in WDW :earboy2:
