Haunted Mansion-Tombstone eyes stuck open.

I just remembered something else I noticed last week. The new tombstone's eyes were stuck open. She usually keeps them closed and opens them every now and then, but this time her eyes were open the whole time. Kinda ruins the surprise, I wonder if they're planning on fixing that.

Did you tell a CM? Chances are there was a pneumatic valve that got stuck, which is easy to fix (if maintenance knows the problem exists). As soon as a problem is called-in, a work order can be logged, and repairs can be made. Not sure what good a message board post will do unless a maintenance CM from MK sees it.

I told the CM at the door to the HM and he just gave me the HM look, you know the look, eyes kind of rolled back in his head as he's looking down. I don't know if he understood what I was talking about or not as he didn't reply. I said, "Did you know the eyes were stuck open on the tombstone?" He just gave me the look and I sort of got pushed on in with the crowd.:)

He probably heard you but was just staying in "character". Chances are, its probably already been fixed.

It's fixed - we were just there Saturday. They did open while we were standing there, but then closed back again.

We had a treat after the ride was over. As many times as we've been, I've never been able to find that darn "wedding ring" stuck in the concrete. We're walking out, and my 6 yr old DD, who is the queen of picking up things off the ground everywhere we go, stopped dead in front of me, almost fell over her, was about the fuss at her when she said, "Mommy, what's that?" I looked down, and sure enough, she had found it. She was so proud of herself!!

Acckk!! Where was it exactly? LOL! My dh and I can never find that darn thing!! Im beginning to think one day, we too, will stumble upon it and that is the only way we will find it!!

How fun for your daughter!

We found the wedding ring last trip. As you are exiting the HM, the ring is in the sidewalk on the right side. I'm horrible at judging distances, but we had not walked far out the door, maybe taken a dozen steps or less, and there it was!! It was much smaller than it looked in pictures I'd seen on the internet. Master Gracie's bride must've had awfully "bony" fingers. :p

I think in our hurry to not be in anyones way we walk way too far out. I think we've even searched over by the dog cemetary!!

Thanks for the directions, we'll have to move to the side and look again!

I was thinking it was more out in the courtyard after you exit, but we were still under the awning part before we went out into the courtyard, like people will fall over you if you stop to look for it because it's pretty much right as you're exiting the ride. Stay to the right, and just as you're about to go out into the open, kinda like right in front of the hearse but back a few feet. Does that make sense?

Could you tell me what tombstone with eyes that open you are talking about? WHere is it? I've never noticed it before- Thanks!

It's the tombstone with the womans face coming out of it right before you enter the mansion itself. Watch it, the eyes open and close. They were stuck open when I visited last week. Glad to hear they're working properly again.

NO WAY!! I NEVER noticed that before...I don't think DH has either!

I guess maybe because the last few times we've ridden we've walked right in and never 'hung out' in the graveyard.

definetly have to check that out next time! that's too cool...thanks!

I've never noticed it before either- but I'll take a gander next time I'm there! What I did notice for the first time at HM in the grave yard was a freshly dug grave with wilted roses on it and the tombstone- it was right next to line where you wait just before entering the turnstiles. Are they changing some things outside there? Or have these always been there and I've never voticed them before?

It's Madame Leota's tombstone .. and it's quite eerie. Of course, it happens so quickly you can't get anyone else to see it!

Leota's tombstone is fairly new, but Master Gracey's grave is supposed to be freshly turned every so often so that it looks like he was just buried, and it's been that way forever. There are so many details to Disney attractions that often it takes several visits to notice everything.

Leota's (sp?) tombstone is a recent addition (within the last three years). It is a wonderful special effect. When working properly for most of the time it just looks like a regular stone marker with a carved face on it. Then all of a sudden the eyes open and the face appears to be stairing at you. Then by the time you can point it out to anyone, they close again. This naturally causes your companions or people around you to look at you like you have completely lost it. It has a terrific effect.

I'm sure the CM reacted that way because in order to maintain the purpose, they must not acknowledge that it does that. You will notice that they do not say much, if anything, about it. It is supposed to surprise people and then leave them babling on about how it really did happen. All part of the show.

It is very close to the entrance so the chances are that it will only happen once before they let you inside. Therefore, it becomes impossible to prove that it actually happened to your friends that might have been looking the other way. It is way cool.

:scared: :faint:

Here is a thread with pictures that shows you how to find the ring:
The Ring at the Haunted Mansion

EZ Board seems to be down right now, so wait a few minutes before you click the link above. Seeing the pictures with the directions makes it easy to find the "ring."
