Haunted Mansion Question

Despite numerous visits (hundreds) to the HM, please answer this - is the ceiling rising, the floor lowering, or is it a great optical illusion?

At WDW, the ceiling is rising. At DL, the floor lowers, to allow guests to go under the DL railroad tracks to the attraction interior.

That is correct. There is no elevator at the WDW mansion ~ the water table is to low for something like that. The illusion is great though!

It also one of the few rides without IR cameras or cameras of any type.

There are pressure sensitive mats along the ride track.

I really dont think the water table has anything to do with it seeing as Space Mountain is sunk 17feet below the MK and the entire MK is a full 1 (or is it 2?) stories above ground anyway.

Its just that the MK is bigger so they were able to sit the show building within the park, whereas in DL they needed to place the showbuilding outside the railroad tracks because there was no available space within the park, therefore they had to create a way for guests to cross under the railroad to get into the ride. so building the elevator in florida would have been a bit of a waste of $$

When WDW's Haunted Mansion was built, they didn’t need the Disneyland stretch-room and tunnel (under the train tracks) to get to the ride's loading area. However, the stretch-room was so popular at Disneyland, that the Imagineers decided to build it into the WDW HM. In the WDW stretch rooms, the ceiling extends up into the HM, you neither go up or down. Following the pre-show, when the doors open, the loading area's right outside the room.

Ohhh, tricky....I thought they were different but I couldn't put my finger on it. That scares DS more than anything else on the ride!
