Haunted mansion. People do this?!

I've given some casual thought to this in the past, and I have a short list of where I'd like my neice and step son to scatter my ashes, and 7 Seas Lagoon is one of them (of course, so is somewhere around Martinsville Raceway...). Disney could make a fortune if they did something along the lines of a columbarium, but since they wouldn't let me mom do a Leave A Memory tile in honor of my Dad, I feel it safe to say they will never invite mortal remains or their remnants to knowlingly end up on Disney property.

Haven't read through the entire thread already, so maybe this has been said, but the dumping/improper disposal of humain remains (including ashes) is a criminal act in Florida. Might even be a felony. I can go back and "dig up" the statute if anyone wants me to.

That's why I'm going to make sure to leave bail money for my loved ones along with my strict instructions to scatter me at Splash Mountain. Zip-a-dee-do-dah....

Love it!! I'm subscribing to that theory and going to amend my will right now!!

I don't think sprinkling some around WDW (not where people walk/eat) is a big deal at all. I'm hoping to be in the moat around the castle too

According to my DS when he was 5 yrs old Epcot has a cemetery! When he saw the leave a legacy stones he ask "mom who are all these dead people"

I was just at WDW last week and while on the HM ride I actually thought about this very topic. Now that is just creepy.

I would love to have my remains scattered in the Ozarks and I don't see this as any different. I'm surprised that Disney hasn't found some way to take advantage of this.

That is one of the more disgusting things I can imagine at an amusement park where kids will be playing. You toss your relatives ashes into the water, onto the land and into the air where they will travel into my kid's lungs and throughout her body? And this is cool to you all? Human remains in an amusement park?

it is against the law to do this, not that will probably stop anyone and Disney has no desire to become a cemetary or offer one.

If ashes are found and are in a container that has any type of identification they are returned and yes this has happened.

This is certainly an interesting topic.. first, I find people who just dump ashes into the Haunted Mansion or any other attraction to be foolish because, yes, they will be swept up/cleaned up/disposed of. Do they think that no one walks through these attractions?

Personally, I can see why Disney wouldn't allow any mortal remains or cremains on their property. I think it would skeeze a lot of people out (and yes, me included, I think if Disney had a cemetery or lake appointed for cremains, I'd find it incredibly weird).

On the other side though, I can certainly understand why some people would want their cremains to be scattered at WDW. And I don't think it's a big deal if someone does a little "sprinkle" here and there--like, a thimble-full, not a whole bag 'o ashes.

I bet there are TONS of people who have in fact done this over the years. If so many people on this thread are talking about it, I can only imagine how many have actually DONE it.

No worries here either. I agree be respectful to others. Dumping them on the floor is just odd! But a sprinkle in the flowers or in the grass or water is no problem with me.

There is no blood, even flesh... or even really ashes for that matter. It's crushed bone fragments that have had every little bit cooked out of them, and the have been pulverized to look like ashes. Not that is still didn't used to be a love one and all, but it's just not that 'yucky' to me.

There's more DNA on the beach from skin falling off of peoples feet than there would be if you dumped a whole urn there. And on a sweaty park bench or hand rail, etc...

ITA. There are plenty of GROSS things in WDW, this is not one of them to me by any stretch.

I think Disney advertising the ability to leave remains on property would kind of undermine their whole theme. Maybe if there was a cemetary ina quiet corner od DIsney property. THAT might actually be an interesting way to get folks to come visit each year. You could go see grandma's grave and hit the parks too.

I think maybe willing your DVC to relatives is a far less toublesome alternative.

It doesn't really bother me though, so long as ther emains are cremated. Not sure why you'd pick the Haunted Mansion though. The lakes and gardens make much more sense to me.

I seem to recall at one point a thread with a photo of a lady trying to disperse ashes near the castle. At least that's what the poster claimed.

I have already instructed my DH and DD to deposit my ashes at WDW. I want some to go in the lake at the Wilderness Lodge, some to go in the fountain at Epcot, some to be sprinkled in the moat around the castle, and some to be sprinkled on the grounds of the Beach Club. That should about cover it.

Me too, POTC/Jungle Cruise/EE at AK/And the lake at POP! All of my Favs....

The Seven Seas Lagoon is awefully large and I am sure that there would be tons of spots that are not supervised at all times.

That would make more sense to me-I wouldn't want to risk being swept up. This doesn't bother me by the way..people scatter ashes all the time in parks, in the ocean etc. I think in this day and age, people freak out more about death, funerals and such. Back in the day, people held wakes from their home-your loved one would be laid out in the living room.

Count me in as someone else who thinks Disney should find a way to make this work.

We just had this conversation a couple of weeks ago. some at WDW, some at Cocoa Beach. Not a lot , but at least some. the rest of me can get buried on our family plot.
