Haunted Mansion Holiday Overlay...

I don't mind the NBC overlay, but....

I know a family that visits DL every year in the first week of November. They have never seen the true Haunted Mansion. How sad is that?

I asked them once, "So, what do you think of the overlay?"

The reply was, "This is the only mansion we have ever seen."

That's just sad. The non-decked out mansion is sooo wonderful. I don't mind the NBC version, but could not imagine that being the only version I know.

P.S. Does this mean WDW has been converted already? Will we not see the "true" HM? :(

WDW doesn't do the NBC theme, if that was what you were referring too.....

So when the NBC overlay happens, does it remove all the original elements from the Haunted Mansion? I will be going to Disneyland for the first time in 2 weeks and I have never rode the original HM. I'm a fan of NBC, but would still like to see some of the classic elements of the ride, at least until I get the chance to ride the original myself.

I'm personally a LOVER of the overlay :) They did such a great job making it feel just like NBC. I can't wait to see it in two and a half weeks. EEEK !! I'm so stoked !!!!

Count me in as loving it too! And I will be seeing it in exactly one week! :cool1: Wahoo! :woohoo:  The trip that I almost didn't think would happen at all is coming up in one week, and I am SO happy and excited!:yay: I am doing PhotoPass, the TOTP on the 3rd, the PS's for dining, riding TSMM in DCA, taking pictures of all the different bathroom signs and other signs...and IF things go the way I expect them to, I MAY be getting an AP! Now... my wheels are spinning and I have to find a way to pull off a Christmas trip!;) Hee hee. Then my year will be complete! :goodvibes

Don't get me wrong - I don't think I would want the NBC overlay on the HM all year long. I lilke having TWO versions of the ride during the year. But I do love that is changed for the whole holiday season, because it is something that is fresh and different!:thumbsup2

Let me think...no. I don't seem to recall very many original parts when the NBC theme takes over. Oh, the head-turning busts that watch you as you head to the boarding zone are still there, you know those right? They just have Christmas decorations surrounding them. The clock striking 13 is still in the hall and doesn't seem different. And in the graveyard scene, I think there are some original ghosts. I'd have to look again the next time I go.

I personally have grown tired of the holiday change. Sorry to those who like it, but I think they should take it to a vote to do something else. Like leave the mansion alone and maybe build an entirely different mansion close by for the holiday theme. It would take loads of time and loads of money, but at least Jack would have his own private home. Hey, it would be the house that Jack built! Haha! :lmao: K, not funny, but it's a thought. ;)

I love LOVE the overlay and am sad that it has been so long since I saw it! It is really cute and different. Of course we were there over christmas so the christmas decorations fit. The entire line was singing along to the christmas carols (Scary bells etc) and there was a guy entertaining the long line. It was great and I can't wait to do it again. You see the HM the same every single day and it is nice to have a little change that isn't permanent. jmo :thumbsup2

It doesn't seem like they remove anything, just put the NBC stuff over whats there. You can still see the original theme in a lot of parts. I think its just good fun!

Does the stretching room portion of the HM remain unchanged? That's my favorite part. The script for the ghost host during that part is an iconic part of the attraction.

No, it is completly different. Different paintings, different speel (Jack, not the ghost host).

Personally, I like NBC, but have grown tired of the overlay. I also hate that it closes the HM for up to 4 months every year.

I saw the NBC version for the first time 2 years ago, and I was surprised at how cool it was! I loved it. I like the movie too, so I thought the overlay was really clever. I also love what they do to the exterior: all the skulls, candles & pumpkins, and especially the creepy bell music! I like the HM either way, but it's neat to have a different version of it. :thumbsup2

I don't understand the pp's who have complained about the "Christmas" theme. NBC is about Jack "the pumpkin king" from Halloweentown, who takes over Christmas (basically), so it kinda does fit with Halloween, too. I know it's mostly Christmas stuff, but the characters themselves are from Halloween. I personally, like the overlay, because it is something different (as we go a lot). My kids love NBC, so they love it. :)

Really? You won't ride it at all with the overlay? Can I ask what it is about it that you don't like? :confused3 I havent seen it, so im curious.

I have ridden it so can answer this better (if memory serves), but it just completely takes over, and changes, the original. I hadn't ridden HM since childhood, and when I finally got a chance to ride, it was with the overlay. I thought they had changed everything! When I had my quick solo trip in January, I was so pleased to find that it's just the same as I remember (with room for memory slippage), nice and stark.

With the overlay, they seem to fill in every single space in that mansion, and it's just a horrendous overload to the senses.

Changed.

It's very sad.

I don't know if it removes anything, but it seems to cover everything so you can't even see beyond the decorations to get to the heart of the true HM.

Thanks for validating my memories of the difference. :goodvibes

I'm not a fan of the NBC movie, but the first time we toured the Haunted Mansion was with the NBC overlay, and we loved it, even my younger DS (who was 3yo at the time.) We have since seen the HM without the overlay, and we like that, too (except for DS8, I think he's aware enough that it's a tad scary for him.) :lmao:

All the decorations are really well done but I also like the classic look of the regular HM. I still get on the ride when it has the overlay but I just like it better the other way.:)

All that I know is that I don't really feel like people that like the overlay, really and truly understand my sentiments.

I still say, if it is so important to Disney, for this overlay to take place, then why not send it over to WDW, and then to DL Paris, then back to Dl. that way even more people that like the overlay, or that will like it, can see it, at the other parks, and still see it as well at DL. and for those of us, that do not condone the changes, will not see it again, until every third year, Dl. 2008, WDW 2009 DL.Paris 2010 then back to Dl. in 2011, YES! I CAN LIVE WITH THIS for awhile anyway, for I cannot wait until it goes away all together!

Yes it is very sad for anyone to only see the HMH, instead of being able to visit the normal as it were, Gracey Mansion as well.

I purposely do not visit the HM when "it" takes over! I cannot stand that nbc theming hijacking the classic HM! Christmas does not belong anywhere in Oct. much less Sept. that is just so disgusting and revolting to me! it completely assaults my senses, and I am not alone in expressing those sentiments, so therefore, anyone that enjoys that theming upon the HM, knock your selfs out! enjoy!

cannot stand it!!! blah! now, I am going to try to go back to nice thoughts! for my own peace of mind!

you and me both. I despise the overlay. To me it cheapens the ride.

i dont like the nbc overlay but ill still go on it my fav ride besieds pirates. but i wish they wouldnt chage it. they should just make a new ride for nbc

i totally agree. i think NBC overlay needs to be its own ride....i hate not being able to see the HM all spooky when we go :( NBC would be super cute if it wasnt taking over HM

+4..I avoid going to the park during the fall and winter JUST because the overlay on the HM. :sad2:
