anyone know what day they shut down HM every year to put the stupid nightmare before christmas junk in it? I know its after Labor day sometime. We are going Sept 6-10th, wanna find out if we should expect it to be closed or not. thanks anyone for the help

well seriously, it aint broke!! leave it ALONE!!!! stupid stupid stupid. We were in Tokyo DL first time I saw the crap and thought they just did it over there, then last year we were in Cali and couldnt believe they had HM shut down to do it there too. AAAAAARRRGGGGHHH, first they ruin Its a small world with the fake looking disney characters, now this... WALT!!! where are you?

Personally I like the changes to it's a small world and Haunted Mansion Holiday, but I live near Disneyland, so the change sto things throughout the year provide variety for the pass holders. It should be noted that passholders are the bulk of the guests at Disneyland, so they do these things to keep us coming back and spending money on food and merchandise (at least we know that's why they do it).

That being said, it usually closes the day after labor day and reopens the last weekend of September now. (sometimes the first weekend of October). Last year as I recall they gave it through the Sunday following labor day, so there is a slight chance for it to be open while you are there.

I am not a fan of HMH either - though a big fan of IASWH and SMGG. :)

Not sure if anyone knows the answer but Sherry E on the Halloween Superthread might.

Up til last year HM went down on the day after Labor Day for 2 1/2 weeks. For those living abroad that would be the Tuesday after the first Monday in September.

However, last year Disney wanted to get a jump on the ever more popular HalloweenTime and they closed HM in late August to make sure it was ready for a mid-September opening as HMH. They also closed SM the day after Labor Day for five days (I believe in early September as well).

My guess is they will repeat 2010 and close HM before Labor Day to support a mid-September HalloweenTime launch. But it might already be decided and there is no need to guess.

I personally LOVE both the HM and the HMH. The good thing for you jsoren11 is that you have all the other months out of the year to see it as the regular HM. I don't think I've heard of anyone so passionate on disliking ANYTHING in DLR! Have fun on your trip! :flower3:

One person's junk is another person's reason to fly cross country... :rotfl:

I'm planning my first trip to DL for Sept 3-13 for the half marathon. I'm going to need to keep track of the ride closures to make sure I can enjoy at least one version of as many rides as possible.

Thank you, HydroGuy, for the link referral!:goodvibes

I was hoping someone would post that HM actually shut down in late August last year, so I'm very glad you did. Of course, we don't know for sure if the same thing will happen this year and it will shut down in late August again or if it will go back to the post-Labor Day schedule. But I agree with you that DLR is likely to repeat the overlay schedule from last year. Since the Halloween season begins on September 16th (and last year it started on September 17th), I think there may be a good chance that it could be a late August closure again.

It will definitely be closed (no HM and no HMH) when the OP visits DLR, during 9/6-9/10.

oh well, I guess a closed HM is better than riding it with that annoying Jack Skelington singing "This is Halloween" Its like holding a wicken ceremony in a Catholic church. It ruins the magic as far as i can tell. Im sorry to be so passionate about the temporary ruining of a great tradition. I guess as long as the "locals" are happy. :worship:
At least they havent permanently Eisnered the ride like they did to IASW. Just imagine a ghost version of little mermaid swimming above the table with the floating head. That would keep the annual passholders spending money there EH?

I always find this to be the most hilarious thing. You do realize that Walt was a very shrewd businessman, right? Yes, he carried some major nostalgia for his childhood home and trains in particular, but he had NO problem cutting out huge pieces of animation that had been hard work and lovingly done by his staff.

He also would have had no problem with refurbishing and/or closing rides that weren't doing well or needed an extra kick to get the people interested. Look up the "official opening day of Disneyland" sometime. Walt was so embarassed by the way the REAL opening day went that for 10+ years he denied that was the "official" opening day but an "International Press Preview".

I adore Uncle Walt as much as anyone around here, but don't believe for a second that he wasn't also a businessman as well. :)

As for HM, I love it with Jack and I love it without. It's my absolute hands-down favorite ride in all of Disneyland and WDW. That's why I go more than once a year.

Then there are those of us that do not like hmh at all. Matter of fact, intensely so, and loathe it as well, that none of us will visit that version unless we are payed to do so. Or also in my case, Clint Eastwood was going to visit that nightmare, then no problem. Otherwise, forget it.

And there are nine months of the year where it is in its original pristine condition for those of you. :)
