Haunted Mansion and the Virtual Queue

Any buzz about a soft opening ahead of the 29th? We’re scheduled to be in the park on the 28th.

Wondering if we should bother trying for VQ on our day of arrival? I could try for it at 7am before we fly out, but we won't be in the park until 3pm. We will be in flight during the noon drop (might be worth paying for inflight wifi?).

Should I just wait until our next park day to try for the VQ or take my chances that I'd get a really late return time? Our first full day we start in DL and then in DCA on our 2nd full day.

Haunted Mansion (along with Splash) are my husbands favorite rides and he hasn't been in almost 30 years! I really want to make sure we get on that ride :-)

You have to have entered the park to be eligible for the noon drop, so that won't be available to you.

As yet, we're missing some of the key details to be able to give you good advice. We'll have a better idea later this week.

The big question is whether they're going to enforce return times. If they aren't enforced, it'd be worth getting in the 7am, as you'd be able to use it once you enter the park. If they are enforced, though, it probably won't be worth it. (My hunch is that if the available line space is as small as it sounds, they'll probably enforce return times.)

If it happens that the 7am drop lasts for more than few seconds, you could actually watch the VQ and see if it gets to a 3pm-ish return time (I think it'll be listed as like 420 minutes or something) and enter it then. But that's only if they go that far with the morning drop.

Thank you so much for your reply. This is incredibly helpful. Good to know you have to be in the park for the 2nd drop at noon. I also didn't realize with a VQ you might actually be able to watch the VQ times. We don't go until October, so I'll definitely keep tabs on the forums and reports from other. Looking forward to hearing how it goes today!

So the time they give you is when you should be coming back to the attraction right?

So if it says 3 hour wait, at 11 AM you should be called to return

It may flux as they start calling groups back. Such as it could slow down if there is a backup or speed up if they are getting people loaded quickly.

So from what I could see on the first live stream on the ride....was no bride and and a Jack making a scary face is near where that was at.

Also I think he was there before but there was a the scary little candle man also in the attic

The bride is usually gone for haunted mansion holiday. Haunted mansion holiday is pretty consistent year to year with only the gingerbread house changing out and the monkey bride being moved. Occasionally they add something new like when they added the sally animatronic.

On one IG post, it looked like they had a taped a queue line on the walkway in front of HM. Did anyone else notice that?

I am going on my first adult trip to Disneyland next month, so all of this is new to me. I have a couple of questions about VQ:

I get that you can try to get in line in the app at 7am or Noon…but then what? When you join the VQ, does it give you a time to return to the ride? Then what are boarding groups? Are times given for the whole day at 7am or only times until the next drop at noon? What did someone upthread mean “is the return time an hour from start time”?

It'll give you an approximate return time. You'll be put into a boarding group - you'll be notified when your group gets called, at which point you can enter the ride.

Reminder to new folks: you'll probably still have a wait once you get in line. (Streams this morning were suggesting 20-30 minutes.) That's pretty standard for VQs.

When you join the VQ, does it give you a time to return to the ride?
It'll show you an approximate time, not an exact time. It varies based on how well the attraction is running.

Then what are boarding groups?
It's a group of people that are called at the same time. It's a way for them to manage the number of people in the line - they can call "x" people to ride by calling one boarding group.

Are times given for the whole day at 7am or only times until the next drop at noon?
The morning drop is a partial drop. I'm trying to gauge this - this morning, it felt like they doled out enough for roughly 12:30pm return times (per their time estimates).

What did someone upthread mean “is the return time an hour from start time”?
You'll have an hour to get in line once your boarding group is called. It's like an LL. Assuming they're enforcing return times, CMs will usually give you a grace period if you're a little late (read: typically ten to fifteen minutes, at the CM's discretion).
