I asked this on the Seaworld board, but didn't get much of an answer. I'm sure most people over there go to Seaworld Orlando. Anyway, can anyone tell me about this? Is it appropriate for kids? My family loves all the 4D attractions at WDW and Universal, but my 9 year old daughter doesn't like scary (as in spooky) attractions (loves the crazy, upside down, backwards, 0-60 launch rollercoasters, but don't get her in a haunted house)! Is this a scary attraction, or is it more fun - scary? To give an example, she LOVED the drops on TOT (in WDW), but was spooked by the queue area and the ghost family. She went on the ride twice, but subsequently had trouble sleeping at night. :sad2: My other daughter is 7, but not so easily spooked. Thanks.

I don't know about SeaWorld Orlando but here's my two cents for San Diego....

The story itself is RL Stine's Haunted Lighthouse. There are some "thriller" parts that may not be appropriate for kids (or adults) who are sensitive to creepy things. I know the sound effects itself is creepy! Each seat will get the 4D effect...water sprayed at you, cold air coming from every angle during the fog scene, things pretending to run past your feet....

Took our 7 year old and he didn't mind it but he loves Haunted mansion too. I think it may be to scarey for your daughter

If she doesn't like the Haunted Mansion, I wouldn't recommend the Haunted Lighthouse. As an adult, I thought it was corny, but still fairly scary. It could definitely give kids nightmares if they are easily spooked.

Think Honey I Shrunk the Audience type effects. The cast is fully recognizable and the show is well paced. It is a nice break from our SOCAL sunshine. It is a theater presentation, so you are seated the entire time. My then 4 y.o. loved it. It is nice to go from the show to the skyride and have a leisurely ride above the bay.

Yes, those are the types of effects, with the addition of quite a bit of water spray. But the plot is far more sinister than Honey I Shrunk the Audience. Think ghosts trying to murder children.

OMG, she wouldn't sleep for a week! We'll definitely have to skip it :guilty:
Thanks for the replies.

I really think it depends on the child. My 6 yr old daughter and 9 yr old son both enjoyed it when we went last summer, but they also both loved Haunted Mansion and weren't frightened by it at all. The 6 yr old is totally fearless so I wasn't worried about her. She loved the haunted mansion when she was only 4. But I also have a currently 4 yr old daughter who is just the opposite. We skipped Haunted Mansion and Haunted Lighthouse with her because we knew she would be terrified. Unless she has a drastic personality change, I probably wouldn't take her to the lighthouse show until she's at least 10. Every kid is different.

I didn't mean to scare anyone away by commenting about the ghosts trying to kill the kids. It is relatively light-hearted. But RL Stine's version of a ghost story is definitely more scary and less humorous than Disney's version. I'm sure many kids are fine with this show, but if Haunted Mansion frightened a child, I'm pretty sure Haunted Lighthouse would frighten them more.

Haunted Mansion might scare kids because there are things popping out at you. The Lighthouse attraction is a movie, so that might make a difference.
