I am planning our first trip to Fort Wilderness Campgrounds. I am so excited and have been doing alot of reading. We are going to be there from October 2nd - 11th. I have been reading about some of the "Halloween" activities at Fort Wilderness, but I'm not sure when these activities start in October. Anyone know?? I have also read about people decorating their campsites for the holidays. Does this include Halloween? And if so, when does that typically start? Last question...for now;), I am curious about the Haunted Carriage Ride. That sounds like something we would enjoy. But, I have 6 kiddos plus my hubby and me. We won't fit in one carriage. Could we rent 2? Is there more than 1?? Any other October/Halloween tips for Fort Wilderness would be greatly appreciated!! THANKS!!:)

We took it last Oct and it's well worth it. There are more than one carriage, probably about two, but I can't be positive. One thing is to call and make ressies now or find out the earliest you can. They can go quick and IIRC they stagger the departures since you only want one in the main section of the ride at a time. I would call at least the front desk and get the number for the carriage ride ressies and see what they can do. Take you camera and look behind you as you are coming back when you get close to the settlement. Again IIRC it's between a 20 and 30 min ride.

Next time we are there over Halloween, this is something we will do again.

We also did the carriage ride last October. It was alot of fun. They have 3 carriages available for each departure time which are usually spaced every 30 minutes. When we were there there was a sign saying that this year the rides would be departing from a different location.

People were decorating their sites when we were there in early October so you should definitely see some decorations.

Here is a link to info about LAST YEARS carriage ride.
