I've seen alot about wearing a hat while at WDW. I am not a hat person for the most part. DH and DS don't mind wearing baseball caps. any ideas for me? I am very fair skinned (Actually ghostlike is a better description...lol)and blonde! I already figure I need an spf1000 (if they had one!) not to burn. I just don't know what to do about my head. I don't want a burn on my head. I've heard about putting suntan lotion on your head but I would think it would make your head feel greasy and yucky. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks
Carolyn

I am not a hat person either but went shopping for one today. We will be at Disney in a week. Last year I got a sunburn and don't want that to happen again this year. I decided to purchase a hat with a string or band so that I wouldn't have to carry it around in my hands or bag. I actually found a few at a local mall but ended up purchasing one at Payless Shoes for less than $10!! It has a good-sized brim, draw string, and it made out of a straw-like material. I am also fair skinned and use SPF 45 or 50 when out in the sun. Good luck. Annmarie

I would suggest a hat with a brim to protect your ears. When my boys were young I insisted that they wear the type of hats that actually came down over the ears and back of neck with a visor in front. In later years they wore fisherman style hats which luckily were in style. The straw like crushable hats offer reasonable coverage and are easy to pack.

I'm not a "hat person" either, but when I go to Disney I am!! Believe me, everyone else will be wearing one too (if they know what's good for them!) Choose something that your comfortable with, and don't worry about how you look. In the long run, a hat is much better than a pealing scalp after a sunburn! (Been there, done that, ain't pretty! LOL!)

I am also a fair skinned blonde with a tendency towards the dreaded "HAT HAIR" LOL. I do go ahead and wear a hat and I bring a mitten clip to pin it to my shirt if I want to take it off but still have my hands free. However an alternative if you don't mind the hassle is to bring a small folding umbrella (you can get them at our local dollar store for a buck) and use it as a parasol. Voila, hat and poncho in one fell swoop!

You might also want to wait until you get there and head to the hat store on Main Street. It is filled with every kind of Disney hat that you could imagine. Having a fun and very cool WDW hat will make wearing the hat a lot more fun. It will cost more but I don't remember them being too badly priced.

Hi Carolyn, welcome to the DIS!!

I am not a hat person either, but I've found that I can tolerate straw hats a lot better than baseball hats, so I'll second this idea. If you're fair, it's especially important to protect your head, there's nothing worse than a burned scalp. :)

Have a great trip!

Welcome to the DIS Carolyn:wave: ! If you are really opposed to wearing a hat maybe you could try using a scalp sunblock. I use Baby Blanket Brand Tender Scalps Scalp Sunblock for Babies (45+ SPF). It isn't greasy at all. I got it at Babies R Us. Don't forget to use sunblock on your neck & ears & reapply:D .

Thank you for all your ideas! I actually have short hair now so hat hair isn't a problem. due to the fact I currently have a sunburned head I think I will go find a hat. It was overcast Monday here in Ohio and I went on field trip with my son's class. I now have a sunburned scalp! OUCH!! Also have a burned face. I was only in the sun about 15-20 min.. My son ended up with burned shoulders, too. Maybe I will do both a hat and the scalp lotion!
Thanks again!
Carolyn

I see from your countdown clock we will be at WDW at the same time. Where are you staying? Annmarie

We are staying at All Star Sports. Where are you staying? We picked sports becuase of our son. He loves baseball and likes football and basketball! I still haven't found a hat I like so I am thinking about finding one when we get there and it can double as a souvenir..lol.
