Every one seems to recommend hats for protection from the FL sun, but unless they have a strap under the chin, don't they come off on the rides? Is there room to store them?

What do people do? (Especially floppy women's hats and kids' baseball caps)

Thanks!

A lot of the rides have an elastic pouch in front of or next to your seat that you can put them in, but honestly, I usually just hold on to mine. None of the rides at WDW are scary or rough enough for me to let go of something. I even held onto a foldable cane during Tower of Terror and Rock n Rollercoaster with no problems.

Yes they do come off. I was hit in the face with the brim of a baseball hat last year on Splash as we went down the huge drop from a front row passenger. :eek:Boy did that hurt.

They usually tell you to take off things such as hats and store them securely.

Hats can come off, depending on how secure they are on your head. It's easy to stash them in the pouch on some rides. I simply turn my hat around on some rides. With kids, I would just stash them.

Lol ok thx so much for answering my (dumb) question! Of course I can just hold them. I knew I was missing something obvious.

Much obliged! Thanks!

I take off hat and sunglasses on some rides(put into my bag.) Last time on ToT I held my hat. I realized after, way too tight as it was straw and crushed after the ride.

This happened to me on Splash, too!

The first time I rode it, something struck me hard in the chin on the big drop. It left a welt. I never saw what it was, but my guess is that a passenger in front of me lost their grip on something.

I wait until the last possible moment to take mine off. My hair is very curly and after wearing a cap for a little while it does terrible thing to the shape of those curls. Talk about hat hair! It's still curly bit pressed down. UGH. I hate my hair and wish it was straight as a board!

Me too! My head looks like a brillo pad when I take my hat off. I usually wear a ballcap or a crushable cloth hat and I'll snatch it off at the last minute, either sit on it or stuff it down the front of my shirt and then clap it back on my head as soon as the ride slows down. I cannot, in full conscience, subject the rest of the world to my hat hair...lol.

I use Croakies for my sunglasses. Keeps them secure and allows me to wear them on rides or around my neck. I keep a small caribiner to clip my hat to a belt loop or a fanny pack.

Aww, I would love to have naturally curly hair!

You could always get it chemically straightened before your trip - makes it much easier to manage! My mum has ferociously curly hair too and the amount of products she has to use to tame it is crazy lol. I still think it looks lovely though :)

I don't wear hats (although DH usually wears a baseball type cap) but I wear sunvisors -- mostly bought at Disney. When we're on a ride like Big Thunder or Splash, I just loop the visor over my one arm and that works during the ride. I have prescription sunglasses (don't wear contacts) and I don't take them off. They fit well enough that I've never had a problem, but then they aren't really large.
One time on Big Thunder I forgot to take my visor off and it was fine until the last drop -- it came off and I thought it was GONE. We were the last ones in a car in front of an empty car. When we stopped, I turned around and it was on the floor of that car. Yay.
:thumbsup2

I wear a ballcap at Disney World, I am female and don't really care what my hair looks like because I am on vacation. What I do on rides is to put the cap on the seat and then sit on it. That frees up any other available space for my small bag (which usually is fine still strapped to my body) and my camera.

Indulge me, I'm so excited about this hat!! :rotfl: My boyfriend is betting I won't wear it, but I will!

(will take it off on rides and hold it or store in the netting)

Okay, that hat is ridiculously cute! LOVE it! We're having a particularly sunny day in L.A. today. I was out in the Angeles National Forest and decided the same hat I'm wearing today I'll bring to WDW!

Thanks!! I normally just wear sunglasses, but i wanted a brim to keep sun off my face completely.
