I don’t know what it is, but for the past month or two, every time Roxanne, Every Breath You Take, or Don’t Stand So Close To Me comes on, I change the channel from First Wave to Lithium or Alt Nation.

I suppose I’m just tired of Sting and company.

Any bands you get bored with?

(Click bait-ey thread title? Not me.:teeth:)

I feel you. I mostly listen to First Wave, 80s on 8, 70's on 7 or Lithium. Though this summer I've added Yacht Rock (70) to my rotation, so good.

Anyway, First Wave plays too much Pretenders. DH loves Chrissie Hynde. I do not. So I always flip the dial when I'm in the car without him and she starts howling/growling/snarling.

I’m also getting tired of U2.

I saw them for the first time around spring 1982 at a small club in Philly. I’d never heard of them before but a friend begged me to go with her.

There were only about 200 people in a 500 capacity venue. I do remember thinking “this band is going to be huge in a few years.”

The Go-Go's. I liked it when I was younger, now it is just an automatic flip of the dial.

And there are a lot of 80's songs I am bored of. Not for dislike of the band, just sick of them playing the same songs over and over. Case in point: my favorite band is Duran Duran. I love them, and I know I can hear whatever song I want at anytime but it isn't the same as the surprise of it on the radio. But for the love, play something other than Hungry Like the Wolf. They have so many songs that made it on the charts! Play a different one!!

and well played @RedAngie on the thread title :rotfl:

OMG! Having graduated high school in 1988, the Police/Sting were a huge part of my childhood. However, it was about 15 years ago for me, all that music grates on my last nerve.

Roxanne, I just cannot stand!

Drinking Game. Every time he says Roxanne take a drink. Every time he says red light, spin around fast. He or she who remains standing the longest wins. If more then one remain standing, increase the required spin for red light by 1 and play it again.

The Police, like many bands in the 80s and 90s are a band where you have to get beyond the singles. I mean you'd get tired of the Cure if all you ever listened to was Hot Hot Hot, Just like Heaven, and Why Can't I be you all the time. Yet those three songs are 90% of their airplay with Fascination street probably half of the rest.

How bout

Fun fact. The Piano Bang at the beginning of "Roxanne" was an accident. Sting accidentally sat on the piano behind him. After a laugh, they left it in.

I'm not necessarily tired of "Every Breath You Take" or "Don’t Stand So Close To Me", but I don't find them to be fun songs to sing to these days. Songs about stalkers and pedophiles don't fly with me no matter how catchy the tune is.

I saw the title and was like "well, this won't last" and then I read the first post.

I'm not a big fan of the last two U2 albums, and that kind of put me off the whole band for a little while. I don't hate them, but I'm not listening to any of them albums on repeat for the past few years.

Funny you say this. Don’t Stand So Close To Me came on the radio today and I cringed when I heard the first notes. I listened through the line “this girl is half his age,” did some quick math on the age-range possibilities, then changed the station to more wholesome rap music. :teeth:

I also love Duran Duran, but, yeah, Hungry Like the Wolf isn't their only song! They had many other big hits. This is why I just don't listen to the radio at all anymore - I have all the songs I want to hear.

As far as The Police go, I won't change Message in a Bottle but I can live without the rest. And yes I owned the albums so I know the deeper tracks as well I just am not the biggest Police fan in the world.

Red Hot Chili Peppers, triggers cringe. Never a big fan but now all I think when I hear them is, "OK, sheesh I get it you like California."
That Ozzy & Lita Ford song inspires an equal, "Can we not please."
Totally agree on both counts. For some reason the local alt rock station NY92.3 here plays RHCP every 5th song. Do they own the station? Enough already.

And Lita... just not the same when you want Ozzy.
