Hate to do this, but have a topic about abortion...

Not sure I agree with you that no one on this board believes their beliefs should be forced on another. And no one should be forced to accept that a six or twelve week fetus should never be aborted no matter what the circumstance. The law is on the side of choice.

Then you agree that I should not have to believe that a fetus is not human and therefore deserves to live and be recognized as such? I am not talking about what is legal or what should be condemned but the right of each person to believe what they choose and say so freely. Everytime this subject comes up, pro-lifers state their beliefs about when life begins and I believe we are all sincere about that, and the majority of replies are something like "its a clump of cells, you are stupid and your God is stupid!" I was pro-life way before I was a christian, it was just common sense to me. I am not trying to change anyones mind on this subject because most people are firm on this one. I just want MY RIGHT TO CHOOSE my own beliefs without condescension.

You absolutely have the right to believe that.>I'm pro-choice and I don't believe it's just a bunch of cells.. Also, lots of people who are pro choice believe in G-d

You don't have to believe that, but that is what it is( a mass of cells forming a shape, that isn't even recognizable from an animal til many, many weeks into the process)

I don't think stupid and god have been mentioned in this thread.

Me too. That's all anyone wants.

Yes, Yay! It's all good. Never hurts to have someone praying for you, just in case.

PS--did you see the edit to my 12:00 post? But really, I need to hit it. I really am old! The AM will be painful.

you people really don't understand the chemical reactions that occur at contreception, do you?

21+21=42 with the correct environment.

Oh my, James. Didn't think this had gotten out of hand. Why involve the mods? I thought we were all rather well mannered in our beliefs. If you've had enough, perhaps you could read a different thread?

Wow- it's really too bad this thread got so heated in the last few pages. Congrats to those to kept a level head and stayed on message.

Jenny- All the best to you and your family and live many, many days with them. They are blessed to have you in their lives.

As for this...

I will be sure to pray for your souls as I drift off!

Don't bother praying for me...I've got many souls in heaven already doing that job and somehow I doubt, from your comments here, that you are going to have much credibility with that crowd. You better save all your prayers for yourself, pray that someone teaches you the nature of compassion before your time comes to answer.

I agree,and I think we've all been pretty reasonable

I knew if we hung out long enough Chad and I could agree on something! I really better get going now. Thanks one and all.

Thou shalt not kill has been adopted. Look at the statutes against premeditated murder in 50 states, the DofC and federal law. When one schedules an appointment for an abortion (mother or doctor) that is a premeditated act--not an act of self defense. In the RARE instance where it is necessary to save the life of the mother, your self defense argument may have some merit. I reiterate, these instances are few and far between. More often then not, it is just not convenient for a mom to take responsibility for her actions. This does not mean that the child poses a legitimate threat to the mother which warrants death for the child.

Had to jump in to say that the "few and far betweens" are the reason I'm glad abortion's legal in this country. I think WAY too many women use abortion as a form of birth control, but there are cases (whether you choose to believe it or not) when the mother is in danger.

Now I'm a devout Catholic, and abortion's a big no-no in my religion, but you can bet your bottom I'd have one in a second if having the baby meant I could be taken from my three children I already have.

Jenny is a prime example of someone who has a legitimate reason to have an abortion and if they were illegal, she'd be unable to do so.

Jenny, I cannot imagine as a mother, what you're going through emotionally. My heart aches for you and you will be in my prayers. Don't let ANYONE tell you you're making the wrong decision. You do whatever you have to do to stay with those beautiful children as long as you possibly can.
Sending you a big

Just paraphrasing some previous ones.

As for the clump of cells, sure you could say every living thing is nothing but a clump of cells. A human embryo is a complete and unique human being. When people use the term "clump of cells" it is an attempt to lessen the identification of the pre-born as human life.

I am very pro-life, but I have many friends who have had an abortion and I can't judge them. I would rather no one choose abortion and I certainly wouldn't hold their hand (figuratively) through one. I also realize that I haven't walked in anyones shoes but mine. The course of action I choose is to support organizations that help women with pregnancy and child care resources. I would just prefer that the pro-choice crowd quit harping the old "its not a child, its my body" line and maybe be more honest and and admit that no one WANTS an abortion, it is a human in there, and maybe more should be done to to prevent those little humans from getting into women who don't want them.

Oh, lighten up, Frozone! We could all use a few extra prayers--even from those we don't agree with. BTW I am sure those souls you referred to now realize that God is pretty pissed about the abortion thing here in the US of A. Much like Jacob Marley came back to warn Scrooge...

To all...I truly hope that the sterility of the internet did not make me sound as though I lack compassion. That is something I have rarely been accused of. It is possible to have great compassion for others, while not agreeing with their choices or beliefs. Jesus was that way. I am just not as eloquent as He! :earboy2:

Sorry if I offended anyone here.
