Our 14 year old DD (the youngest of our seven children - and of course, the most spoiled - just ask her siblings), is going on a cruise over Spring Break with her best friend and her family. We paid for her portion of the cruise and her airfare and she has saved her babysitting money for MONTHS for shopping excursions in the ports. Any other side excursions and meals prior to and after the cruise, and the hotel for after are being paid for by her friend's family.

I totally trust the family that she's traveling with, but this is my "baby" and I'm nervous at the thought of her on this huge ship for a week, without her mom. :grouphug:

Has anyone else sent their baby off on such an adventure?

DD, 15, hasn't gone on a big trip with another family although she has gone with her dad and his family and has gone on school trips (Washington DC, WDW) without me. I wouldn't have a problem letting her go, though. I think it will be hardest on you, until it happens more often. :teeth:

We just took a friend of dd's with us to WDW for a week. She had a great time and so did we. It was her first big trip without her parents and she did wonderfully.

I'm sure your dd will have a great time!

In the summer of 2003 & then again in 2004, DD11 (then age 8 & 9 respectively) was asked by 2 different families to go to Nags Head for a week each time. Both moms are 2 of my best friends so I know she would have been totally safe...but DD didn't want to go..she didn't say why but I know it was because she'd miss me to much

I thought she was a little too young anyway.

Mine haven't, but I've brought their friends on week-long and two-week long vacations (camping). Their parents were nervous because the kids were younger, had never been away from home, and moreso had never really spent time in the mountains. In all cases the kids weren't homesick and had a blast. What a neat opportunity for your dd.
