Has your Employer moved to Microsoft Office 2007 yet? (Feedback on new version)

A few years ago I spent over 100 hours training to be an expert in Microsoft Office XP (2003). I went through the CD ROM tutorials (Professor Teaches) on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access. I determined there was about 200 different commands I could be tested on in the Microsoft Professional Certification Test for each of the five different products. After much effort and cost I passed all five tests. A real accomplishment and expense.

Now I understand that my employer may move to Microsoft Office 2007 which is COMPLETELY different and I would have to learn the programs all over again.

Has your company moved to Microsoft Office 2007 Version, and if so, what do you think of the new version of the software?

My school has, and while I love Office 2007, it has a pretty big learning curve. A lot has changed but if you're computer savvy, you can usually figure it out quickly. There are a lot of neat little tools to make life "easier" :lmao: ,well, once you figure out how to use them. ;)

Yes and I love Office 2007. We (we own the company) purchased new computers in 2/07 and ordered Office 2007 for all of them. It takes just a bit of work, but it is SO much better than the earlier version. I would trash the Vista operating system though if it weren't so blasted expensive to go back to XP.

I have it at home and love it!!!

It's pretty easy to learn everything, but it may help to get a book to do practice lessons. There's a lot of new bells and whistles in Word.

It really isn't that hard to learn. Once you realize how the ribbon works it is pretty simple. The basics haven't changed much, just the layout.

We still have 2003 on one computer, and I have 2007 on my laptop. I've been forcing myself to learn it. The more I use it, the more I like it. As other posters have said, though, it's a big learning curve. It's a totally different way of thinking. I've had to use the help function quite a lot.

I do love the report themes, and the master bibliography function for school work.

HATE HATE HATE HATE it.

I wish there were pull down menu options, etc in Word.

Excel is harder to me, but I wasn't that great at the old Excel but I knew enough to get me by. Now through in a new look and my old menus are gone.. so it's harder for me.

I hate it. I'm a human factors psychology major, which means that I study how humans interact with technology. A lot of what we do now is with software companies, studying, where on the screen do we want the most important thing? How can we make this user-friendly?

Let me just say Microsoft didn't hire enough of us. One of our favorite things to do in class is pick apart Word 2007 and point out how it's not user-friendly. At all.

Not to be mean....
Better get used to software changes or find another profession because it happens all the time

I have been using 2007 for awhile now for school and I love it, it took some getting use to because there is just so much new stuff to use on there but I think it is pretty easy to pick up once you get going.

My main issue is... why did the "File" button turn into a Microsoft logo? I know so many people that couldn't figure out how to open the whole print menu for weeks after they started using it, because they thought that was just a logo up there!

I couldn't find the print button either - I knew it had to be there but I couldn't find it - I ended up using the old keystrokes control+p until I could find it!

Some things should not be change - the fact that you have to hover over the "ribbon" to see what lies behind it was not while getting used to it. Unfortunately that's the way most offices are heading - to 2007.

I loved WordPerfect and when our office changed over now THAT was painful. We changed because "everyone" was on Word. Guess what we found out when we changed over - NOT EVERYONE was on Word :(

^ +1

wish I could go back - forcing people to re-learn the way tools work does not make for added efficiency...everything takes me longer to do now...I need to hunt thru menus to find the things I used to have built into custom toolbars and so forth...it's horrible.

I have been using it for a while now. It definitely takes some getting used to but once you do it's pretty simple. I LOVE it!

Our company just went to 2003 version this past summer. I think it'll be awhile before we get to 2007! And for the record ... WordPerfect was so, way way so, much better than Word!

It used to be but not anymore.

My boss has it on her PC. She's not very computer-savvy in the first place, but could figure things out in an older version. 2007 has things hidden or in different places or funky new icons leading the way. We're always learning something new.
