since the pandemic? I think we need to do that. Yes, someone came in with a high fever to "just get something done". I am one of the "underlying conditions" people so I am a bit freaked out.

Nope. About two months ago we had two teachers and the only boss for the day out sick, another coworker (who took charge) who had the runs (and refused to go home) and one teacher who was just miserable And none of them went home. MY boss couldnt issue a policy or we would be without teachers alot since we teach and someones awalys sick.

Funny this got posted today.

My bf just texted me. He's leaving work early because he is sick. He is 99.999% certain sick because his work partner is a woman who is constantly coughing, sneezing, hacking, etc.

He is furious and is planning to go to talk to their boss before he leaves. Apparently this lady is like this frequently.

His company gives paid sick days. This woman should leave. She is obviously making other people sick.

Yep, we got a letter in our mailboxes that said, "if you are sick, stay home." I was amazed as normally the company line is, "come to work unless you are in need of hospitalization."

Great thread. I wish my company had a policy regarding people who come to work sick. It's ridiculous.

Yes. I work in a health-care related field, and we got a memo stating that if we have flu-like symptoms, we are supposed to stay home for SEVEN DAYS (of course I don't get that much paid sick time....)

Yes, my company did, pertaining to the swine flu. Other than that, nope.

I work at a college - we do not have a campus wide "sick" policy. In fact lots of people come in when they aren't feeling well. I am the Director of the Child Development Center. I don't let my employees stay at work if they have a fever, but they come in with coughs and runny noses (which they likely got from the children in the first place) all the time. If teachers stayed home whenever they didn't feel well school would be closed half of the time

Not really, but there was an email a few months ago that basically said that if you have swine flu to stay home.

Personally, I almost always come to work when I'm sick. I have way too much to get done to spend too much time on my back. I generally just move my meetings to other days and shut my office door. That way, I'm not really putting other people at risk.

Of course, those people did get me sick...

We issued one right away. The state of Washington has a memo to send out and a flier to post on the wall of the workplace. The basic info is that you should stay home if you are running a fever and that if you're not running a fever it tells you how to "cover your cough", wash your hands, etc.

It took a few minutes on the computer to find it, print it out and get it posted. Then just printed out the memo and put it in everyone's mailbox. We also set out dispensers of anti-bacterial wipes and Purell hand sanitizer at different spots in the office. The agents really appreciate that we look out for them. Hey, they work their butts off for us, I can at least watch out for them as much as I can! (can you tell I love my agents? They're awesome!!)

My company issued "if you are sick, stay home". I didn't get all the details but they sent a message out about employees returning from Mexico when the swine flu scare started, you had to stay home for 7 calendar days to be sure you did not carry it back. They offered to waive the usual 5 day PTO before short term disability kicked in if you did get the swine flu.

Unfortunately, some jobs just don't give people a lot of options. Not all healthcare providers will see you for flu symptoms unless you are high risk or are experiencing complications. They tell you to stay home and drink fluids. I have worked for two different companies where the rule was you had to bring in a Dr.'s note or you were automatically fired. Of course, they didn't consider that you might not be able to get into the doctor that day. These companies also had no paid sick leave.

Sadly, part-time Disney CMs get no sick leave. The majority of Disney's workforce are part-time people. If you call in, you get a half point on your record. If you get 3 points, you get a reprimand. For that reason, people come to work sick at Disney all the time.

DH works for a company known worldwide.....a biggie. They aren't known for letting people off at the drop of a hat. But last week, DH became ill with a fever. I have asthma so I made him go to the dr. for a flu test. It was negative, but he was still going to stay home until his fever broke. He called in to work only to find out nearly half his dept. was out sick. That never happens. These are people who do not want to be laid off, so they will come in to work sick all the time. The dept. head told everyone in the dept. to go home and work from home until further notice. They didn't want WHATEVER it was spreading to several thousand employees. So for a week they worked from home and since this is the week before July 4, the manager said to keep on working from home for the second week. I think a sickness of this magnitude (such a huge percentage of the dept. out sick) scared the crap out of them.
