Has WDW ever moved a ride/attraction?

Do you know if Disney has every moved an attraction from one park to another, or one part of a park to another part?

I've heard that the submarine in the shark reef at TL was a 20,000 Leagues submarine, wasn't it? -- pretty easy to just move part of a ride. Are there other rides that have been recycled.

Would they actually move the ride? Or would they just tear a ride down, and build a new one elsewhere?

The "Mickey Mouse Revue" audio-animatronic show moved from the Magic Kingdom to Tokyo Disneyland.

"Magic Journeys," the original 3-D film in Kodak's Imagination pavilion at Epcot, moved to the former "Mickey Mouse Revue" theater (now home to Mickey's Philharmagic") at the Magic Kingdom to make room for Captain EO at Epcot.

"Festival of the Lion King" at Disney's Animal Kingdom uses rolling stages that were originally "Lion King Celebration" parade floats at Disneyland. See http://www.yesterland.com/lionking.html

Numerous parades have moved from one park to another.

WOW! That's a lot more moving than I expected. So, I guess it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility to move something like the Indy Raceway out of MK to make room for new rides.

Just wondering, since there are often posts about rides closing, etc. And, thinking about the rumours about Adventureland being rethemed as Pirate Land -- some of the rides that would no longer work with the new theme are still pretty popular eg. Aladdin's Magic Carpets

Carousel of Progress started at the 1964 Worlds Fair in New York. It moved to Disneyland in 1967 until 1973, after which it was relocated to WDW Magic Kingdom where it has been since 1975.

But moving full-sized attractions nowadays would liekly be prohibitively expensive. Moving parades, shows, etc. are simpler.

In the case of the Indy Speedway, if they were to close it I doubt it would relocate at all - it would probably just go away in my opinion. It doesn't really fit anywhere else.

I may be in the minority, or I may be totally insane, but if they were to move the speedway, I would like to see it in Test Track (or near it) where they showcase the new cars. That is a very big space in my opinion without any real substance to it.

I heard a rumor that the lot was not only used for displaying cars but was also used as cast parking. However, if it were to be moved and I am wrong then that would be a fairly more reliable and fitting place to put it even if it is a popular attraction.

Whoah, I haven't heard that rumor. I guess I haven't been paying attention. So are they really thinking of doing that? If so, which Disney parks? I just like it being Adventureland... I like the theme now.

I doubt that they would move the Indy Speedway. Or they might just make another one, and take the cars somewhere else. It doesn't look too expensive to just remake, in my opinion.

The sub from 20,000 Leagues is now at Castaway Cay...it's in the snorkling lagoon.

Also the Flying Dutchman was towed to Castaway Cay when filming of the 3rd movie was finished.

The Indy Speedway needs to be eliminated or replaced. The engines that run the cars emit lots of pollution into the environment. New cars should be electric or at least cleaner than the existing ones. A revised ride with environmentally friendly cars would not only produce less pollution but be an example for others!

the engines use about 1 1/2-2 gallons of gas a day and don't pollute that much and where do you think Electricity comes from? power plants that pollute and the whole thing is that you are in a GAS racecar

But Indy race cars don't actually use gasoline... :)

Well, actually they do add a little bit of gas to the ethanol, but that is so no one will drink the fuel...

When one of the Dumbo's at DL decided to fly away  they shipped the DLP-Dumbo ride to California and ordered a new one for Paris (since the park wasn't open yet at that time)

Fantillusion got moved from Tokyo to Paris, and apparantly the Stars and Motor Cars parade will also come/ is already at Paris.

Obviously you'd never have read any EPA reports about how polluting lawnmower engines are (that's what the indy cars use). They have absolutely no pollution controls and no temperature control so even using the 1 1/2 gallons of gasoline you mention they create a huge amount of pollution. Much more than your automobile does using 100 gallons of gasoline.

Your whole discussion of power plants is totally absurd because they have extensive pollution controls (not to mention the fact they don't use gasoline). Please try to limit your discussion to topics where you actually know what you're talking about instead of making totally irrelevant comments.

I am going to leave it that I don't feel like arguing on here

It would be really chill if Disney moved Monsters Inc. Comedy Club to the Studios in Pixar Place.

I agree with posters on here that the Indy Speedway should be moved eliminated completely. I believe it no longer has appeal to anyone. However, as is the case with Stitch's Great Escape, I have severe doubts it will be moved or eliminated. We are lucky we even got this Space Mountain renovation because it was scheduled before the recession hit home. Dark days at WDW Tomorrowland without the TTA and Space Mountain.

If the Speedway has no appeal, why do you figure those hoards standing in line every time I walk by it are there? :confused3

I think i phrased it rather badly. I think that Disney could do something better with the land that the Indy Speedway takes up. And people are going to ride the rides in the Magic Kingdom no matter what they are. Just look at Stitch's Great escape.

All of the little kids I know LOVE the Speedway...the fact that they are REALLY (in their minds LOL) driving a car is sooo exciting for them. My daughter and her bff (girl and boy ages 6) must ride those cars at least 3-4 times each day we spend in MK and it is not because it is just there, it is because for little kids driving is FUN!! I hope they don't take it away...at least not until after she is 16 and gets her license for real ;-)

That's true, soft opening previews are currently being held with full opening on 04.04.09 :thumbsup2
