Has This Ever Happened to You?

Yesterday, some of the 'peons' here on the campus where I work had our annual yahoo-it's-summer-break lunch. One of these women is a DVC owner, and when I told her we had just bought in, she congratulated me and we started jabbering away about Disney and how much we love it, and how grateful we are to be able to go, and how pretty it is, etc., etc. Of course, the other people at our table just kinda looked at us like we're crazy, and Donna and I admitted that Disney is just one of those things you either love or do once in your life and say that's it. Have you ever been in a situation like this? Prior to DVC, we were regular Disney-philes, but I think things have gone up a notch since our purchase... And I don't really care, I'm just wondering if this will be it for life!

YES! Usually it is my family that does not get it, and the people I work with. Dh and I try to tell people the benfits of DVC and how much we love Disney. But they look at us like we are crazy and ask us how we can keep going back so much!

I think people who aren't into Disney are crazy! But, to each his own.

The benefit of all these people not getting it is that they aren't there to make it more crowded!

We have 3 actual boys(15,11,5), BUT my wifes licence plates on her car says "4Boys" Counting Me! who she says is her biggest boy and pain in the #@%$* I'm the guy who can't sleep the night before leaving for Disney. We have gone 14 straight years, and I get more excited every year!!! I'm so pro DVC even my wife tells me to "shut Up" about it!
Oh well, I'll be going down again this April!

It's funny, I've started referring to us and others I've met from these boards as "Disney people"....

But what I find really wonderful is how diverse we "Disney people" are and how we can all connect on this one area! Isn't it truly great when you find another "Disney person"?

And other people....well, there are some that just "aren't disney people"...never have been, never will be....lol.

We were telling a couple that we're close friends with about DVC a few months ago, and our friend said, "I think everyone should go to Disney twice in their life. Once when they're five and once when their child is five." My DH and I sat there and were speechless! Some people just don't get it. But ya know, the crowds would be horrendous all the time if everyone got it like we do . . .

One summer I was teaching an enrichment class with another teacher. We had a guest speaker. When the speaker arrived, he had the DVC cloth bag with all his props in it. We started chatting about DVC. The other teacher was in the dark as we talked & talked!

YES this happens all the time....sometimes I have to curb my DVC or Disney talk because when I see a certain look on my co-workers faces I realize I am going overboard. That's why we come here isn't it....a place where EVERYBODY "gets it"

I am so glad to hear other people have the same problem. I always hear (especially from co-workers) "Boy, Disney again - aren't you tired of that place yet." My DH says that they are just jealous - we have something to look forward to every year.

hi to all: yup, some people are just different or have different tastes. that's another thing that makes dvc such a great choice. if we ever get too "disneyed out", we have other options. i know many other people just don't understand how truly addicting this is; such a magical break from reality. oh well, to each their own.

Last Saturday, I excitedly stopped at a yard sale because there was a HUGE Mickey sign leaning against the telephone pole. I asked them if it was for sale, and they said, "NO WAY!"

Well, we got talking about Disney...they are big Disney freaks like us! They were wearing Disney T's (she said her DH always wears one), and have been going almost every year since it opened. They drive their camper down, and used to go for 3 months! Not sure what they do for a living, but she said all they need to "work" is a telephone...they'd make their calls in the morning, and head to a park in the afternoon.

Then, she invited my DD and me in to the house to see her Mickey bathroom...awesome! Mickey wallpaper, knobs on the vanity, candles, wastebasket, soaps...everything was Mickey. It was great. And in her kitchen, she's got Mickey dishes on display, and a Mickey teapot.

It's so nice to find more of "our own kind".

BUT, they never heard of the DIS and didn't know anything about DVC.

Having people not understand our addiction is something I am used to. I understand that not everyone likes the same things and there are just people who feel like the ones in the earlier post, that you should go twice in a lifetime. In fact, I wish more people felt like that sometimes so the place wasn't so darn crowded... What I DON'T understand is why people feel they can comment like that about something that I adore. WHy is it that people will make comments like that "twice in a lifetime" one to someone who is talking about their annual trip to WDW? Why is it that people feel free to voice their negative opinion in such an emphatic way. I would never comment like that to people who like to camp. I wouldn't be caught dead in a tent, do I say that to someone who just got back from camping saying what a great time they had. NO! I say " I am glad you had fun" How about skiing. I have reached a point in my life where I only do things that are fun to me so no more skiing. Do I tell my friends who ski religously that they are crazy and that skiing is only for psychos??? NO. I say "Have fun on your next ski trip"Do I say to those skiiers "how can you have fun doing the same thing every year???" NO! ooohhhh How I hate that attitude.. Lots of people do repeat vacations, why are we Disney addicts subject to such unwanted criticism... I love to meet Disney people!! That is what makes this site so refreshing!!

I agree with Patricia. I would never tell my brother in law and his wife, why are you going back to Jamica again. You go there all of the time. What is there to do now that you have gone so many times. As she said, go and have a great trip in Jamaica. We love Disney. To be able to get away if only for a few days form all of the stress and everyday problems is great.
I too have a Disney room in my house. We have totally decorated my sewing/computer room. From wall paper to cabinets doors handles to rugs and even have the monorail runing through it. Now it is starting to creep into the kitchen. I have the tea pot and toaster and mugs, plates and silverware. I don't buy all of it, most ofthem are presents. Everyone says we are now easy to buy for, just go to the Disney store!!!!!!

Last week at work a lady came to pay her bill. It was a few days late and asked if it was OK. She was wearing a 25th aniversary WDW shirt. It was OK, but I told her I was only making the exception due to her shirt. Well, we got to talking. It turns out she and her husband have a timeshare at Westgate. They spend the first two weeks of every November at WDW!! There's a lot of us out there.

Usually when I'm asked what I'm doing for vacation, people stop me for before I answer and say, "Oh yeah, I forgot. You're going to Disney AGAIN. Don't you EVER get tired of going there?" I simply smile now...

And yes, I'm Susan, and I'm a Disney-aholic - and proud of it, so don't offer me any cures!!!

I am lucky enough to work in the same building as another DVC member. Her son is a member also. This allows me to discuss the trips to WDW of three families. We talk strategy, discuss meals, different shows etc. We share info on airlines, car rental etc. but best of all we have someone who understands why we go to WDW and why we belong to DVC.

Thanks for all the replies! Yes, it's nice to find other people with the same addiction. We know people who go to Aruba at least every other year, and I just don't say anything, but I don't criticize them. Maybe they find something different to do every trip, like we do at the World.

I try to control myself at work, but I've become the official 'Disney Consultant', particularly for those who are planning their first or once-in-a-lifetime trips. And I'm just very grateful that we can finally 'relax' knowing that we now have a way to get back to WDW every year. DH has even decided that starting next year we should purchase AP's. I was shocked, but I certainly didn't argue with him, LOL!

But we dont's always have to go to WDW to enjoy our DVC, I just read a great post of people using their points for what sounded like a great exchange for a week stay in Spain for only 98 points, and that was only using up their bankd points from a resale they bought, they are now gearing up for their first DVC stay in November, ( 2 great vacations thanks to DVC)

My DW, her DP, and my DS all think I'm a wacko for spending so much time reading the posts on these boards. Well ... I don't care, 'cause they are so darn informative and they may just be the push we need to become DVCers.

I must add that I have, and I wear, numerous Mickey ( and Co. ) neckties. They always get reactions from my co-workers.
